Chapter 173: Detonation
Draven’s POV
The show was going on fine.
Selene had become more beautiful than I ever imagined she would. The glow up on her was enormous ... all because she had become Luna. Yet she was about to die, and I didn’t give a fuck.
We could never have been a thing again.
"She’s the one up there ... Selene with her husband William. Let’s go!" I said to the others.
It was only me and May who moved upstairs to find her. The rest stayed down below, ready to cause the chaos.
The people were distracted watching the car race, too loud and too dumb to notice anything. This was exactly how people really died.
With the intercom connected to all our ears, I spoke into the mic. "Do you read me? Drop the bomb now and stay far away from it."
They followed through and cleared the area. May and I were already upstairs hunting for Selene, William, and every piece of royalty we could find.
"At the count of three, you will detonate the bomb buried underneath the grass. One... two... three."
It felt so cringe doing it, but we had no other choice. It was the only way out.
The bomb went kaboom ... detonated and blew up a hundred metre radius, clearing the area instantly. May and I moved immediately, pushing into the upper floors while everyone around us was running for their lives. We pulled out the guns and started shooting. May was a really good shooter. She took down a lot of guards before they even processed what was happening.
Security couldn’t secure themselves.
I shot down every single one of them.
All the royalty had retreated into the chambers. We pulled the doors down with multiple shots. They had nowhere to run.
Outside, people were screaming. Some were literally burning to death. The festival had been brought to a halt ... many were on the floor dead, body parts scattered across the open space. Every guard inside the building had been shot down. The royalty knew there was no escape.
We revealed our faces.
I began it with a smile.
"Welcome to your end."
May stood steady behind me with the gun raised.
"Draven?" Selene screamed.
"Yes, it’s me, mate." I kept the smile. "It’s so sad this is the last time we’ll be seeing each other. How long has it been?"
Tears were forming in her eyes. I kept the gun pointed ... angled in a way that none of them could move. All nine of them. Alphas, Lunas, and Betas. Every last one of them was going to die today.
"Draven, you’re behind this? How? Why would you kill my people with a bomb?" she asked.
"Your population has become too much. We need to reduce it now." I looked her dead in the eye. "You don’t deserve this much attention and glory. Who do you think you are, Selene?"
"And who do you think you are ... coming in here pointing a gun at my face?" she shot back.
"Please ... she’s being cocky. Have mercy on us, please." The Luna of Winterwood dropped to her knees and started begging.
That was the style I wanted. The perfect position and posture required to live.
Or not.
"I’m here to kill you, Selene. It takes only one shot, so be careful."
"Let’s shoot them already and get the hell out of here!" May screamed.
"Please, there must be a way we can work this out." William raised his hands. "Whoever sent you ... you can’t kill your fellow wolves like this. Please."
I laughed. "Lights out for Morvaine, bitches."
I shot the Luna of Winterwood first ... the one still on her knees. It was loud. She dropped dead immediately.
My shot was followed instantly by May’s, cutting down the Alpha and Luna of Bloodmoon. They dropped instantly too.
Then the rest ducked and scattered deeper into the building.
I couldn’t believe it. I hadn’t shot Selene. My mission was not complete.
May chased after her with everything she had, but damn ... Selene was fast. I went after the Alphas and their Betas.
I fired at them but the shots kept hitting walls. Four were already down. Five still to go. What the fuck.
At some point, we lost Selene entirely. She had vanished somewhere in the building.
"Come out, Selene. You can’t hide forever. You must die today."
I yelled it into the silence while everything outside was still in perpetual ruins.
"What the hell are you all doing?! Come out now!" I shot at the tables, at their artefacts, at every expensive thing in sight.
"It’s over for Icefang and Morvaine. You’re finished."
I dragged someone out from under a chair ... grabbed her by the hair. According to her profile in the database, she was the newly acquired Beta of Winterwood. Valerie.
"This bitch. The Beta?" I looked at her with contempt. "I would rather have a rat than this piece of shit."
"Leave me alone!" she screamed.
Then Selene stepped out ... gently, like something had been holding her back. Someone had been. Her husband.
William followed right behind her.
"Don’t you dare touch her, Draven." Selene’s voice was steel. "You came for me. Here I am. She has nothing to do with this."
"She has everything to do with this. She’s royalty now."
I kept the gun aimed at her head.
"You’re a fucking piece of shit." Selene’s eyes didn’t flinch. "I knew you would never end well. All the betrayals. The stupidity. Look at where it landed you ... here in a royalty chamber, trying to wipe out eminence. Have you no shame?"
She was insulting me while staring down the barrel of my gun.
Such audacity. I would have loved to borrow some.
"Goodnight to your friend." I squeezed the trigger.
Nothing came out.
I didn’t realise how many bullets had been wasted chasing them through the building.
Selene didn’t waste a second ... she threw a knife and it caught me in the belly.
"Ahh!" The pain tore through me.
May fired at Selene immediately, but William threw himself in front of the shot like what the fuck ...
Then in the blink of an eye, while I was bleeding through the belly, Lucian charged at May and wrestled for the gun. Valerie snatched it from May’s grip and threw it to Lucian. He shot at her without hesitation.
Then Valerie kicked us ... both of us ... straight off the gallery.
We fell.
A loud thud hit the ground. My head slammed down hard. May landed right on top of me.
What happened after that, I couldn’t tell you.
It was lights out.𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
