The Magus of Genesis

Episode 20 Hometown/Native Place

"How about that, Doctor?"

"Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"

I raised my voice to the contents of the bag brought to me by my neighbor's farmer, Nozom.

"Thank you, it's perfect, Nozom!

"That's what happened."

Unexpectedly holding her hand in that white and beautiful glow, Nozom replies so relieved.

"Wait, uh, how many sentences will that be?"

"No, you can't get money from a teacher!

When he took it back inside the room and pulled out a gold wipe named Wallet, Nozom said that in a hasty manner.

"I can't do that. You had a hard time making this, didn't you?

"Uh... well, just one sentence"

In her confused and understated hand, I let her hold a ten-month copper coin.

"Oh, no, you can't have it like this! I only have one bag for you!?

"That's okay. You had a tough time making this, didn't you?

One sentence was originally a voucher for wheat. Therefore, the value criterion was that one sentence of wheat for each sachet was one sentence, and one sentence for pulling it and turning it into flour, and one sentence for further breading it.

It didn't include any fees there, so now I powder enough wheat for eleven sentences and so on, and it seems that rates are getting pretty good.

Although it is not wheat that I received from Nozom, it is a sachet, so I think you are saying it is good in one sentence. However, the hardship of growing and harvesting completely new plants from scratch is as cheap as ten sentences.

"Nina, I'm going out for a little while."

After forcing Nozom, who fears, to give him half a dozen copper coins, he makes himself comfortable. Speaking to the girl as she rolled into bed, only her hands waved silently.

"Good morning, Doctor!

"Ah, doctor, good morning."

"Morning, Kaili. Morning, Masora."

As I walk down a paved path with cobblestones, the villagers greet me instead.

In response, I looked around the town.

There are a lot more brick homes around here.

Whatever you say, bricks are durable. It's not the same as wooden architecture. It is also relatively easy to repair.

Then I wondered why I hardly saw it in Japan, but I also found that out thanks to Rufu's research. Brick buildings are very vulnerable to earthquakes. It's inflexible, so when it rocks from the ground up, it collapses quickly.

Fortunately, whether the village of Hiiro is on stable ground or something that won't happen in the first place in this world, there hasn't been a single major earthquake in the last few hundred years that would cause the building to collapse. Looks like the brick house is on the terroir here.

"Numera, are you there?

"Yes, yes, I'm home. Oh, Doctor."

I visited one of those brick buildings, the liquor store Numera.

A liquor store is, or perhaps the oldest occupation in this village. If you do anything wrong, you're older than my "teacher".

Because liquor brewing is not what I taught you, but what was being done in the village of D'Arga is inherited as cotton. They say it was originally taught by the elves. Long before the concept of a profession or division of labor was possible, they specialised in brewing alcohol.

"Do you have an example?

"Please wait... I don't know if this is a good idea"

The liquid that Numera offered me. It has a unique smell. Put it on your finger and lick it with pepper.

"...... yeah! It's fantastic, it's a boulder numera!

We had a similar exchange earlier and gave Numera ten sentences, and I'm headed to my next destination. The square was full of lively voices as the streets passed through the centre of the village on the way.

The roads are filled with people pulling luggage and carrying supplies, and there is a flourishing deal lined up with things like opening a store. Some of the people who interacted with each other were four-legged (Centaur), lizards (Lizardman), and elves.

Um, it still looks like it's gonna be hard to pull the luggage all the time.

There are no creatures in this world equivalent to horses. I have half a horse (Hippocentaurus), but I can't even treat them like livestock on boulders.

I have tried to make deer cars without carriages with big-horn deer and six-legged goats that were successfully lived, but my temper was too rough to control at all. Basically, they don't flock, so they don't have the habit of following the intentions of other creatures.

I carved letters on the wheels, demonized them, tried to build automobiles, but this one was also a failure.

For once, moving moves. But the fuel consumption is too bad. When you make a car that is big enough and heavy enough for a person to ride, a reboot is required without holding ten meters on a normal-sized wheel.

And with the combined magic, it drained to the point where it ran out of essence within a kilometer at best. Me or Nina would have more, but it's faster to fly away.

While worried about what was going on, what I arrived at was a section with a ranch.

At first it was a ranch where only about deer and goats and ravioli were kept, but now the variety and number increased considerably.

The sheep-like creature herding at the root of the tree is the cotton sheep (Barometz). That's what I named it because it resembles the legendary creature that was believed in the Middle Ages, Barometz.

From the tree is stretched the likeness of a bamboo, which leads to the tail of a cotton sheep. It looks like an animal no matter how you look at it, but that seems to be a kind of plant.

Herbivorous plants, should I call them? It's an ecological creature that eats and nourishes the grass flowers around it, while monopolizing the nutrients of the soil, and what you're doing is eggy, but the nature is relatively quiet. Above all, the sheep's hair becomes a quality cotton yarn.

Meat is also edible, and a variety of other creatures are raised, such as large armored rats, whose skins are processed into various products, and empty jellyfish (sorghum jellyfish) drifting through the fluffy air.

My aim today was in the deepest of them all.

"Hi, Caraco. Sorry, but I was wondering if you could share the eggs."

"Oh Doctor, there you are. Of course it's fine. How many do you want?

Two chickens (hens) livestock arrived. I called out to Karako, who was just there preparing for the bait.

"Right, two... No, can I ask you for three?

"Haaay."

Karako replies in a good mood and enters the herd. Two chickens, as its name suggests, are small birds with two to four wings. Although I gave it a name as a hen, it doesn't look much like a chicken on Earth. It was just the same thing that lays eggs every morning and can make it edible.

Karako enters the herd. No, the two chickens being left unattended attacked her in unison. There is no leak in the example of animals in this world, and both the two chickens have a very rough temper. Besides, those pairs of feathers are not Dada either, and they are very skillful at flying. I fly, and if I think I've fallen sharply, I hover perfectly in front of me, and a kick claw attack hits me.

But Karako avoids all that, and in a casual motion picks up the eggs and collects them after the herd. Uhm, stunning craftsmanship no matter how many times I've seen it. I only think I have eyes on my back.

"Come on, Doctor, go ahead. Then I'll take care of you."

When Karako hands me three eggs, I quickly turn myself in, take the feed box and go inside the livestock.... They did it! I haven't paid a fee.

Even if you have eggs that are easily cracked in your hand, you can't even chase them. How dare you? I would have broken my egg.

I'm sure I'll pay you back this debt......! While I vowed so, I went back to the school building.

Arrange all ingredients and start cooking quickly. The first thing I took out was a pot of hijiirokane.

Since then, many types of metal have been found, and it has become common for cookware types to be made of the easiest iron to remove. The newly found metal, due to its nature and appearance, calls it iron, copper or silver on its own, but probably not the same as that on Earth.

As strange as it is that silver is stiffer and lighter than iron, even I can tell.

Hihiirokane is a much rarer metal than I thought, and I haven't been able to take it much lately. The total Hihirokane sword that Sig made for me is still the family heirloom of the sword department.

It's a very luxurious story to make a pot out of something like that, but the heat street is good and it doesn't burn and it's very convenient.

When I was cooking what Nozom had given me, Nina rose up.

"……… What, it"

"It's breakfast."

I know Nina didn't hear that, but I answer that out of the blue.

Eventually, the dish, which could not even be called the dish, was completed if the plump, cooked white and glowing dish was served in a bowl, the eggs obtained from the caraco were broken into pieces, and the liquid received from Numera was turned.

"What?"

"Local cuisine in my hometown. It's egg-wrapped rice."

Whether or not I can call this local food, that's what I said.

I'll make you Nina's share, too, and she'll give it a shiny look.

I prepared her a wooden spoonful and I took out the chopsticks I had secretly made for this day and put them in my mouth.

- Yeah.

The rice Nozom made me is a little different from that I know. Overall, it is long and thin, with a crisp texture and slightly yellow because the precision rice is not perfect.

The soy sauce Numera made me was not made from soybeans, but so-called fish soy sauce made by fermenting the fish. It has a unique flavour and is quite salty and spicy.

But it did taste like home.

Far away, I've lived here many times as long as I've lived there, and although I don't even want to go home...

Still, my hometown is Japan.

"Yeah. That's not so bad."

Flatten the egg-wrapped rice next door, Nina says that.

"You didn't hesitate even though it wasn't quite good looking food."

"I learned. The weird things you want to eat are mostly delicious."

Weird stuff. While I laughed bitterly at the way she said it, I was quite glad you liked it.

"If you like it, do you want another drink? I got three eggs and rice... is that it?

When I turn my gaze, I don't have the eggs that I should have had earlier.

"Hmmm...... I see, it's certainly not so bad"

Instead, an elf appeared to cheek the egg-wrapped rice with a spoon.

"... when did you come in, herd blue"

"Homaera, Mifumeha, yes, Hihaha, Hihaha, Hihaha."

I have no idea what you're talking about. Swallow it before you do.

"Excuse me, I stopped you"

I wasn't alone in my nostalgic face. Another elf bows his head as he glances modestly inside from the entrance.

"It's been a while, Mr. Purple. Please come in."

"What are you doing here?"

I'm guessing you're diligently investigating the matter.

In a risky way, Nina asks.

"Fair enough. Go ahead."

"We're out of time, Doctor, Dear Nina. Today… I came to share with you the words of my elders as the chief guardian."

Mr. Purple said without sitting in the chair I pulled, kneeling on the floor, correcting Piscilli and his spine in a polite tone. From that look, it can be seen that the words she conveys are not her intention.

"... our elves will refuse to interact with Hiiro Village in the future."

- That was exactly what I expected.
