The Magus of Genesis

Lesson 18 Missing/Deficiency

"Ha..."

Three bells rang to announce the end of the class, and when I visited the classroom, Nokia looked up at the ceiling relieved to remain seated.

"Hey, Nokia. How was class?

"That's right...... it was great"

The quickest way to get to know the village of Hiiro is to get a look at the school. That's why Nokia had me take classes with the students.

"I mean... I've seen a bunch of incredible things, and honestly, I'm not following my head a bit."

The look on her face, which was somewhere dreamy, gradually returns to reality, as well as holding her head against her desk.

"What's the place? Let me hear it."

"The first and foremost surprise is that beasts and scalpels usually live together"

Among the students who were taking classes with Nokia are the four-legged species (Centaur) and the lizards (Lizardman). Of course humans are more overwhelming, but about a third of them are of a different race.

"They... no, they think they are a fierce and barbaric race that is incompatible with people and has no civilization... yes, I thought so. In fact, it has been attacked many times in other lands. In the first place, I didn't even think I was the right person for words."

The Lizard Man may not be wrong about that assessment. I burned my hands a lot when we met. Although it has become much more civilized and accessible since the chief turned into a sig, it is due to the talent of the sig individual. The average lizard man (Lizardman) did have no choice but to live a life described as fierce and barbaric.

"And the next thing you know...... is that all the kids are taking classes with their books in their hands. Perhaps they are descendants of nobility, but I didn't know they had such an advanced education from such a young age..."

"No, there are no nobles in this village. They're all normal children."

To my words, Nokia was stunned.

"In the village of Hiiro, people of all races are to receive basic education in schools for six years, from the age of six to twelve. When it comes to compulsory education, adults are obliged to make this education available to all children."

"Obligations, education…"

Nokia squeaks like a rumor and shakes her head fluttered.

"So, are you okay?

"No...... it's okay,. I knew it. A slightly higher number for a nobleman means… thin, I was guessing. This isn't the only classroom..."

While she was about to collapse, Nokia managed to cling to her desk.

"But that means that the literacy rate in this village is………"

"Yeah. That's almost a hundred percent."

Of course, a very small number of people will be able to read and write all the huge numbers of kanji characters when it comes to that. I also have something a little suspicious about the new Kanji characters made by the villagers themselves.

"Hi-ha, a hundred... no, it's okay, it's okay... I'm not surprised to hear anything anymore. But what is this paper made of? It's very durable and seems to be of good quality…"

Nokia scrolls through the lent textbooks.

"That's called behemoth... er, it was made by stretching out the skin of a beast bigger than a giant"

Since then, technology has developed considerably, and it has also been possible to make paper from the skin of beasts other than Behemoth. Still the most suitable for paper, though, was the skin of the behemoth.

"Behemoth!? Is it the ground beast behemoth!? Um...... having an iron-like skin and a mountain-like body......!?

Nokia, who said she wouldn't be surprised to hear anything, quickly rose to surprise.

"Oh, yeah. Well, it's a lot smaller than the mountain. About half of this school building………………………………………………………."

"Isn't it big enough! …… Are you…………………………? Behemoth...?

Trembling amicably, Nokia.

"I'm not in the village on the boulder, but you can go to the southern meadows."

Or is this reaction………

"The legendary giant beast that supposedly perished in the ancient days of Tai... the existence that was even questioned as real is still alive………………?

I knew it was extinct!

That's right, such a delicious, hunter-friendly and conspicuous creature, it's easy to extinct if you don't even protect it...... I was somewhat forcefully protective about this and it was really good.

"If you want to see it, I'll give you a guide later. If you take the streets, you'll reach Behemoth's soot meadows in a couple of days."

"Streets...... that's also a path that takes a few days to stretch. Even that stuff, you have it...... even think of it as a brick-paved road, like the whole city?

"Yeah. I don't have a problem with the water because there's an aqueduct flowing next door at last, and I'll put it on in half a day if you take the Bohemian boat."

To my explanation, Nokia sits back in the chair fluttering.

And suddenly, pressing silently, she dropped her gaze on her desk as if something was bothering her.

To that serious look, I wait for her words.

Nokia looked up relieved as the laughter of the children finishing the class sounded from outside the window.

"……… Sensei"

And look up at my face and tell me to whine.

"When I first saw this city, I thought it was a secluded village with a belated culture, a small countryside."

Yeah. If you ask me, that kind of nuance could have leaked from a piece of Nokia's language. Is that why Nina was upset?... Well, in fact, I don't think it's wrong to be in a remote country. That's why I guess I've never had contact with any other country.

"But that was an error. It is a strange country that symbiotes with many different races...... education, culture, technology. They all have standards that go well beyond Massillo."

If you look at the surprise earlier, you can see that. At least in Masiro, education is aristocratic… I guess you can't get it unless it's very partial, chosen.

"But"

Nokia hesitated, but made it clear.

"There is only one thing in Hiiro that is significantly inferior to Masiro"

I snort. I had a prediction of what that was.

"The reason I was the first to disconnect Hiiro from being a country behind. That's because I didn't see any walls."

"Wall?"

Nokia nodded to me when I asked her to return the parrot.

"In Massillo… no, not just in Massillo, but in the human country that the eagle has seen, there is always a wall surrounding the city called the curtain wall"

Nokia continued, adding that the method of calling varies from region to region.

"If you look at the material, the height, and the robustness of the curtain wall, you can roughly see the high degree of civilization in that country. That didn't fit into this country."

Speaking of which, I think I used to build a fence around the village. But at some point, those things were gone. I don't know when it's gone, but I know why it's gone.

Because it is no longer necessary.

Everyone in the village has gained enough strength to defeat the armored bear. If you are about an armored bear, the most ferocious beast in the region.

And besides, there was no such thing as an external enemy that threatened the village. No, there was only one kind, but that wasn't even someone you could prevent with a fence or a wall.

- But that was not the case in other countries.

"The eagle... just spent the day, but I liked this country. Peaceful, warm, full of children's smiles. A number of races, feared and considered evil in other countries, live together. That's a very strange sight for a eagle... but at the same time, it looks so beautiful. It's like an ideal place."

I pointed my gaze at my black skin, sticking out of Nokia's long sleeve. It's time for summer. Speaking of travel outfits, I was wondering if it wouldn't be hot with a hooded cape on top of my long sleeve.

But maybe that's why she's traveling. Surrounded by many races, the people of this country who live with dragons will not be popular with the color of their skin.

"I absolutely don't want the eagle telling Sole to make people in this peaceful country quarrel over each other. But...... I also don't like it when people from other countries destroy me by not telling them. So... I'm not sure what to do."

That must be Nokia's heartfelt word, I thought.

"But Sensei. You stopped the eagle then. I mean, you don't have to tell me, you know what a eagle bow is, right?

"…… oh. I know."

Bow, a weapon that has existed since the Stone Age, followed by spears and axes, and which has come close to the history of mankind.

"What's missing from this country...... no, shall I be clear? Something I didn't tell you and didn't let you make."

In the village of Hiiro, however, the bow is not used at all. The reason is simple, because spears are more useful when hunting beasts. For once, I've tried to make it in the past, but the bow can't pierce the skin of the fierce beast of this world. So it's...

"A man is a weapon for killing people."

It was said in previous life that the history of man is a history of strife.

However, there has never been a large-scale war in the village of Hiiro, even if there have been skirmishes and quarrels.

But that was...............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
