Chapter 440 - 404: Fahai’s Lineage
"Mrs. Wan, what exactly do you want to do? The Lin Mansion is full of hidden talents. If your identity gets exposed..."
"Don’t worry, Mr. Lin is not someone who doesn’t understand reason. Even if my identity is exposed, I’m confident I can withdraw safely."
"Really?"
"Of course, it’s true. It’s late, hurry up and go to sleep." Luu Wan directly pushed the person out.
"Then Mrs. Wan, I’ll go to sleep now."
Luu Wan, also known as Situ Wan, didn’t know if keeping Qingtang by her side was a good idea, but now her troubles had arrived.
If Qingtang left Huaye Tower "resigned," it might be a good way to leave the whirlpool.
But to have this girl leave voluntarily, that would be easier said than done.
...
The next morning, Lin Miao had just recovered. He didn’t rush to attend to Yongning Hall’s affairs. Having just returned, he needed to rest a bit.
Anyway, he wasn’t short of silver and wasn’t under any pressure to earn a living. Besides, wasn’t Wen Ruyu there at Yongning Hall?
Unless it’s a difficult case, generally, Wen Ruyu and Xia Zhu can handle it with ease.
He went through so much effort to train Xia Zhu just to find someone who could work for him, so he could live a bit easier. Living a life of diagnosing and treating illnesses every day, wouldn’t that be too dull?
Of course, he wouldn’t really indulge in life. After all, treating and saving people was his job and his joy.
The sense of accomplishment from being able to help people, to save lives, is different from any other.
"Master, Mr. Zhao and his family have left."
"Got it, accompany me to Shanglin Temple." Lin Miao nodded and instructed Mr. Xie.
"Yes." Mr. Xie agreed immediately. He once had thoughts of leaving, but now he had none.
Following Lin Miao was far more promising than being at Yuanheng. Don’t underestimate him as just an outer courtyard manager; the benefits were much better than being the head steward.
"Junior Brother, where are you going?"
"I’m going to play chess with Master Fahai." Lin Miao explained.
"Oh, alright, come back early." Sun Youwei merely asked out of curiosity. She didn’t really involve herself in such matters.
When she has time, she prefers to learn how to process herbs and spices.
Mr. Xie chose an ordinary carriage, exiting from the back gate of the Lin Mansion. If they used the front gate, the residents of Xiuyue Square would greet them, and it might take more than half an hour to leave.
The back alley was narrow, not many people used it, but it could accommodate a carriage.
Lin Miao had with him the Mahayana Nirvana Scripture, which he acquired at an auction. He already knew the secrets within this Buddhist scripture, so it was of no particular use to him. The original plan was to buy it as a gift for Fahai.
Just as well, he had something else to ask for, so he came together.
Everyone at Shanglin Temple now knew Lin Miao as Fahai’s friend, having formed a bond through confrontations. Those corrupt monks, who Fahai, as a disciplinarian monk, couldn’t stand, could only deal with things he had evidence for.
After all, he wasn’t originally from Shanglin Temple; he was among the minority. But since being promoted to Tianyuan,
Shanglin Temple held him in high regard.
The abbot offered him the position several times, but he declined. He really didn’t like administrative work, living a carefree life as a disciplinarian monk, practicing martial arts and Buddhism, intervening when necessary was much better.
The temple had over a thousand monks and auxiliaries, not easy to manage. The old abbot, although aged, was in good spirits and possibly could have been promoted to Tianyuan if not for his age.
Don’t underestimate the sleepy-eyed old abbot, apart from his deep understanding of the Buddhist Dharma, he had formidable skills.
Before Fahai broke through, he might not have been a match; now, it’s hard to say.
After being announced, Lin Miao went directly to Fahai’s private meditation courtyard.
Fahai was practicing martial arts in the courtyard when he came, with two young monks watching and ready for orders.
He was practicing the Arhat Fist.
Lin Miao had taught him the Arhat Fist. Fahai had achieved mastery in this technique. Even if Lin Miao himself were to come,
he might not perform better than Fahai.
In the freezing weather, below twenty degrees, he practiced bare-chested, with defined muscles, which would surely make any admirer of brawny men drool.
Noticing Lin Miao’s arrival from the corner of his eye, Fahai stopped his practice, exhaling heavily, the breath resembling a tiger’s roar, quite intimidating.
"Mr. Lin has arrived."
"Monk, how have you been?" Lin Miao, hands in pockets under his cloak, smiled slightly.
"Not bad, just haven’t stretched my muscles in a while, had to do this." Fahai donned his monk’s robe, inviting Lin Miao, "Let’s have tea in my room."
Lin Miao gave a slight nod. There was no need for formalities between him and Fahai; everything was casual.
In Fahai’s meditation room, a young monk served fragrant tea and then was waved out by Fahai.
"You just returned from Li Hen City and came to see me. Any issue?" Fahai was shrewd, or otherwise, the one promoted to Tianyuan would have been him.
"I brought you a gift!"
Lin Miao chuckled, pulling out the Mahayana Nirvana Scripture for which he spent twelve thousand taels of silver, and placed it on the table, sliding it towards Fahai.
Fahai saw the inscription on the cover, his lips twitching in shock, his behind lifting involuntarily off the cushion: "This is the Mahayana Nirvana Scripture?"
"You’re a monk, don’t you recognize scripture?" Lin Miao shot him a glance.
