Chapter 496 - 430: Hanging by a Thread_2
"Inform the messenger that I’ll handle some matters at home and head over," Lin Miao instructed, as he had just returned and needed to deal with household affairs.
"Senior Sister, you stay at home. Xia Zhu can come with me," Lin Miao didn’t want Sun Youwei to endure the hardship of traveling with him.
"Junior Brother, let me come along. I want to be with you, and I’m fully recovered now. Even riding a horse won’t be tiring."
"Alright then, you come with me, and Xia Zhu will stay behind to watch over Yongning Hall," Lin Miao nodded in agreement.
"Mao’er, take a trip to Shanglin Temple and inform Precepts Hall’s Guangmiao monk to gather a team of martial monks and meet me at the city gate for the journey," Lin Miao ordered.
"Yes, Young Master," Lin Mao replied, swiftly running off.
"Yuyao, I’m sorry, I intended to spend more time with you, but I have to leave. We’ll find time later," Lin Miao apologized to Baili Yuyao.
"It’s alright, there’s still plenty of time in the future. If you have matters to attend to, go ahead," Baili Yuyao, though somewhat reluctant, was understanding.
She wasn’t merely seeking a fleeting moment of pleasure; there were many days ahead.
"Thank you. In the future, you might find me bothersome," Lin Miao teased, playfully tapping her fair nose.
"No way," Baili Yuyao hummed softly. Her heart was already set on Lin Miao, and even though she’d have to share him, she didn’t feel neglected. A harmonious big family was something she appreciated.
Lin Miao thought to himself, once you have a child, you’ll understand. A child is a mother’s treasure, and husbands are less esteemed than grass.
With a medicine box and any necessary herbs and equipment, Lin Miao and Sun Youwei boarded the carriage, joined by Liansuo, while Mr. Xie drove.
Lianxin stayed behind, both to watch the house and because Helian Wanwan was practicing in seclusion. If needed, someone had to be available.
...
"Amitabha, Mr. Lin," Guangmiao greeted with eighteen martial monks already waiting at the city gate.
"You’re not riding horses?"
"We can walk; it’s not very far," Guangmiao quickly responded, while the eighteen Shanglin Temple martial monks behind him bowed with palms together.
"Alright, I won’t arrange horses for you. I’ll have the carriage go slowly so you can keep pace," Lin Miao nodded.
Eighteen monks in the Blood Fusion Realm, even at the lowest middle grade, would be a formidable force in any sect.
...
"The prefect is here, Mr. Lin has arrived and has brought eighteen martial monks from Shanglin Temple," an official from the manor rushed into the Xue Family Manor’s main hall, kneeling to report.
"Mr. Cao, let’s go welcome Mr. Lin Chengde," Pei Jian said with delight, as Lin Miao evidently understood his intentions and even brought reinforcements from Shanglin Temple.
It was like a timely rain.
Although Lin Miao wasn’t in official attire, Pei Jian and Mr. Cao were dressed in third-grade and fifth-grade official robes, respectively.
Officially, these two were his superiors according to court hierarchy.
However, both were coming to greet him, which was quite an honor.
"Prefect, Mr. Cao, this is my fiancée, Sun Youwei," Lin Miao introduced Sun Youwei after greeting with cupped hands.
The Senior Sister rarely ventured out and had almost no contact with Pei Jian, so although it wasn’t their first meeting, introductions were necessary.
After all, Mr. Cao wasn’t acquainted.
Since they weren’t formally married, it wasn’t polite to refer to her as "wife." Besides, in the Lin Family, Sun Youwei and Lin Miao were practically married, if not for the mourning period, they would have been officially wed long ago.
"Lady Youwei, it’s been tough for you."
Refreshments were served in the main hall.
Pei Jian briefly explained the situation to Lin Miao, and then he and Sun Youwei got to work. The manor’s military also had their own physician.
They could only handle simpler external injuries. Internal injuries were beyond their capability; this wasn’t a battle between armies, and the injured were from the martial world, which made things complicated.
Of course, they started with the three Meridian Passage Realm experts.
Chen Xiaodao’s injuries were the mildest. Although he had coughed blood, it didn’t hinder his movement. With medication, he could recover in about ten days to half a month.
Next was the Jade-face Judge, Mei Jiuru, whose heart was injured, reducing his combat strength to thirty percent. Even with medicine, it would take at least one to two months to recover.
The worst off was Iron Palm Zhou Qianren. He had lost too much blood and was bedridden, his lungs damaged by blood poison. Though his life was saved, without special treatment, it’d take over half a year to recover.
Moreover, he couldn’t engage in combat; otherwise, his condition would worsen, possibly resulting in death.
Zhou Qianren’s escort agency in Dongshan was naturally aware of Lin Miao, so when Pei Jian sought Lin Miao’s help for his injuries, Zhou felt relieved instead of resistant.
Lin Miao’s medical skills had been evident to the people of Dongshan over the past year. Although Zhou hadn’t personally sought Lin Miao’s treatment, his escorts and family had received Lin Miao’s help.
"Mr. Lin..."
"No, Mr. Zhou, please just lie down, and let me check your pulse," Lin Miao chuckled. The reputation of Iron Palm Zhou Qianren was decent; Lin didn’t have any reports of wrongdoing. Their paths hadn’t crossed before; it was their first meeting.
"Thank you," Zhou Qianren lay back, a faint flush of illness on his face.
