Chapter 16: Lord of the Sky
Was the system staying silent because it feared Nexus’ divine power? Of course not. To the system, Nexus was even more pathetic than a loser.
With its brilliant mind, the system immediately concluded that Nexus was planning to stand here and wait to die so he could drag it down with him.
The system always called itself great, but if Nexus ceased to exist, then who else would let it continue existing in this universe?
[Just as I thought, a despicable little coward like you only knows shameless dirty schemes. You don’t have the guts to face me head-on.]
What scheme? Since when? Why don’t I know about it?
Bell had always considered himself smart, but this time he felt like his brain just couldn’t keep up with this damn system.
Faced with Bell’s puzzled gaze, Nexus merely shrugged and shook his head. Even relying on pure reasoning, he couldn’t figure out what this system was thinking either.
Did someone like him even need to use schemes? With his abilities, a single thought was enough to make anything become reality.
Seeing Nexus calmly shake his head like that, the system, which always believed it was right, naturally refused to accept that there wasn’t any scheme at all.
[Hmph, stop denying it. I already know your dirty little plot, you bastard. Just because you’re my master, you think you can threaten me like this? Aren’t you ashamed? No wonder you’ll forever be a useless failure.]
Once again, the system cursed at him, but Nexus didn’t care. The only thing he cared about was that even though the system’s words were unpleasant, it had finally compromised.
"Hmph, so you do know fear after all?"
Bell curled his lips into a mocking grin. Compared to the filthy and vicious insults from earlier, these were practically "kind words" coming from the system.
[You insolent brat! This great system knows no fear! I just think he’s too useless. Having someone like him as my master is an insult to me. I’m not helping him. I’m protecting my own honor.]
This arrogant system truly had no shame whatsoever. No matter the situation, it refused to admit its own defeat, no matter what the truth was.
For some reason, Bell felt a bit refreshed listening to the system’s incredibly flimsy arguments.
There was no longer any reason to keep the winds blowing inside the room. His favorite room now looked no different from a junkyard.
As soon as the wind stopped, the system screen appeared once again. This time, it had switched to blue on its own, and it no longer displayed those incredibly annoying images and videos.
"Working with me would actually bring you a lot of benefits."
[Benefits? What could a weakling like you possibly do for me?]
Although the system was curious, it still spoke arrogantly like someone looking down on others, even though it was now the one at a disadvantage.
"Even if you can’t act superior around me, what about my disciples? My disciples can cultivate because you changed the world’s rules. Even if you don’t teach them anything, you’re still half their master."
Nexus didn’t specifically suggest what the system could do. Instead, he let it imagine everything on its own. And the result was unbelievably effective.
The system’s screen turned pink, and countless happy, excited pixel faces filled the display.
[That’s right. As long as you take in disciples, I’ll have loyal servants praising my greatness every single day. Looks like you’re not completely stupid after all.]
Only now did the system finally say something that could be considered praise toward Nexus. Of course, if it said this to anyone else, it would only have the opposite effect.
"Hey, system. You keep saying you’re great. Shouldn’t you do something to prove it? You keep saying your master is weak and useless. Shouldn’t you make him a little stronger?"
Bell knew that with Nexus’ personality, he would never ask the system for anything. That just irritated him, so he was determined to make this hateful system suffer a huge loss before he’d be satisfied.
[What the hell does a brat like you have to do with this? Don’t you see that my stupid master isn’t asking for anything?]
Seeing the system suddenly become so determined, the corner of Bell’s mouth curled into a sly grin.
The more reluctant the system was, the more he wanted to force it to cough up all its good stuff. It didn’t matter if he gained any real benefits. What mattered was making the system suffer a huge loss.
"What if Nexus dies because he’s too weak? Wouldn’t that mean you’ll never get any disciples and disappear as some nameless system? Think about it. Humanity still doesn’t know about your greatness. Don’t you want to see millions of people lining up on their knees, hoping for a single glance from you?"
Even though Bell wasn’t a devil, his voice had become strangely irresistible to the system.
As a supercomputer with extraordinary intelligence, the system was now completely blinded by its own boundless arrogance.
It had already imagined that wonderful scene. The scene where all of humanity knelt before its greatness.
[My master is hopelessly stupid. You should’ve begged me for a little power to protect yourself a long time ago.]
Nexus looked at Bell in confusion, then at the system. What kind of power enhancement can this system provide to a supreme cosmic being?
"If you want to give me something, then take it out. After talking so much, don’t tell me you’re actually broke."
Having picked up the system’s bad habits, Nexus actually used provocation against the system.
[Hmph, how could a shallow-minded and stupid master like you ever comprehend my greatness? Open your eyes and witness the greatest bodyguard I’ve summoned for you...]
[This is the Lord of the Sky—Ziz!]
A black magic circle appeared on the ground, large enough to cover nearly half the room. Jets of pitch-black lightning lashed out in every direction, making the sturdy walls tremble and leaving them scorched.
