Chapter 89: Earth Element Spiritual Herb
Mark’s experience going with Kael’s hunter team was completely different from when he had to struggle alone. Watching these more than a dozen people sweep away monsters wherever they went, Mark realized for the first time just how huge the gap of a few ranks could be.
The strongest hunter Mark had ever faced was Ron, but Ron was only D-rank. Compared to this team, anyone picked at random could take down Ron. Even Alice, whose ability was a recovery type, could do it.
"Don’t just stand there spacing out. Give us a hand."
Seeing Mark staring blankly at everyone, Kael gently reminded him. Even though he quite enjoyed having a ’fan’ following him around like this, Mark really should do something.
"But what can I do? The monsters you guys are fighting are even stronger than skull ape."
Mark could only helplessly shake his head. Even though Alice had healed him, moving around this quickly was only temporary. He needed a lot of time to recover completely.
Even if he fully recovered, he still couldn’t fight monsters above D-rank. If he couldn’t fight, then how could he help them?
"Are you stupid? When did I tell you to go looking for a way to die? Look around and see if there are any rainbow sand, spirit stones, or spiritual herbs. We entered the dungeon to search for those resources in the first place."
Looking at this stupid rookie, Kael couldn’t help shaking his head, but he also remembered his first time entering a dungeon. Even though Kael’s awakened ability rank was much higher than Mark’s, he had still been clueless in such an unfamiliar environment back then.
"Then I’ll try looking for them."
Even though Mark nodded like that, he really had no idea how to find those things. Fortunately, he knew what they looked like; otherwise he would have been completely helpless.
Mark’s luck wasn’t too bad either. After only a few dozen minutes, he spotted rainbow sand. However, looking at a handful of sand lying all alone on the ground, Mark felt that this was really strange.
"Why is a handful of sand lying here all by itself? No matter how I look at it, it doesn’t seem natural. It looks more like someone accidentally dropped it."
Mark crouched down and picked up a few grains to take a look. Although its name contained the word ’sand’, in reality it didn’t look like sand at all.
"Eh, you found it already?"
Alice glanced toward Mark and saw the rainbow light. Her eyes lit up as if she had just seen money, and she quickly ran over and put the rainbow sand into a box.
"You’re pretty lucky too. I thought there wouldn’t be anything left around the outskirts."
The trip had only just begun, yet they had already gotten an unexpected result, so everyone was happy. Since they were still in the outer area of the dungeon, where the place had already been thoroughly exploited, the rainbow sand found here didn’t need to be handed over to their superiors.
If they were only exploring the low-level area of the dungeon like this, then naturally there was no need to send three B-ranks with three different roles along with such an experienced team. Their goal was the more dangerous area deeper inside.
Since the resources in the dungeon were non-renewable, there was no use in keeping the dungeon after everything had been mined out. If Kael’s team managed to defeat the boss after finishing the extraction, they would naturally receive extra money for clearing it out.
"Hey, but why is there only a little bit of it?"
Seeing this stupid question, Alice was stunned for a few seconds. It wasn’t because it was difficult to explain, but because she had never encountered a hunter who didn’t know this.
"You seem to seriously lack basic knowledge, huh? Rainbow sand is just what we call it, but it doesn’t actually look like the normal sand you know. So don’t expect to see a huge beach of rainbow sand. This stuff is expensive simply because it’s rare and has a lot of uses."
Having just finished fighting, Brann walked over to Mark while drinking water to take a look. When he saw the pile of rainbow sand, his expression immediately became extremely good.
"Do you know how to drink? Wait until we leave the dungeon and come with us. Consider it our thanks for finding this patch of sand and not asking for a share."
Although Brann was a little too straightforward, talking to someone like him meant not having to think too much.
"You guys saved me, and I’m still asking for a share. Wouldn’t that make me a complete piece of trash?"
Mark shook his head and smiled lightly. Being around these people made him feel very comfortable. Although Nexus and the system had also helped him a lot, those two existences were far too high above Mark’s current level, making him feel like there was still some kind of barrier.
And perhaps that invisible barrier was caused by his instincts warning him about the people who had sealed part of his memories.
Having already made a contribution right after entering, Mark’s spirits were greatly lifted. Compared to the past few days of struggling in vain, traveling with Kael’s team made Mark feel that life was truly wonderful.
It seemed like the bad luck that had followed him for years was now being balanced out by good luck. Just a few hours later, he accidentally stumbled on the ground, causing some dirt to fly up and revealing a brown halo beneath the black soil.
His spiritual root once again let Mark know through his senses that the thing underground was extremely suitable for him, making his breathing slightly hurried.
Gently pushing away layer after layer of soil, Mark saw a strangely shaped spiritual herb emitting a faint brown halo. There was no need to think much to know that this thing enhanced earth elemental abilities.
A strangely shaped spiritual herb, growing wherever it wanted. Mark never thought his luck could be this good.
His desire for power made Mark want to immediately hide it and keep it for himself to slowly absorb. But when he looked toward the group fighting the monsters, he began to purse his lips.
After a while of struggling with his thoughts, Mark decided to hand it over to them. His master was watching, the system was watching... most importantly, he himself was also watching his own actions.
If Mark could only act selfishly and despicably like this, then what qualifications did he have to go further? Moreover, if he did that, how would he be any different from his enemies when he valued benefits above everything else?
