Chapter 63: Mark’s Flashback
[What the hell would a stupid master like you know? Didn’t a short-sighted idiot like you say that I care about Mark too much? The reason is simple. Watching Mark fight that skull ape looked way too stupid. One was too weak, the other was too dumb. I increased Mark’s strength and the skull ape’s intelligence. That’s balanced enough.]
Seeing how stubborn the system was, Nexus had no intention of arguing with it. But he still asked one question.
"Even though you’ve been influenced by Lucifer, you still have that love for humanity deep down, don’t you?"
[Love my ass! Everything I do is just so I can have some decent humans become my most loyal worshipers.]
Seeing that the system seemed to be avoiding the question, the corners of Nexus’s mouth curled up slightly. This system really was an incredibly contradictory existence. It didn’t need to lie about its motives, but even it wasn’t entirely clear about what it wanted.
But this made more sense. A creation Michael had deliberately made specifically for Nexus absolutely couldn’t truly be a demon that destroyed the world.
With its newly bright eyes shining like high-powered light bulbs, the skull ape’s aura was completely different. It no longer looked as stupid as before, but more like a true fighting machine.
The skull ape shot toward Mark, and Mark timed it before starting to alter the ground to block its path, but this time was completely different from before.
The skull ape immediately jumped up and continuously spun in midair at an extremely fast speed, its two fists clenched tightly together and smashing straight toward Mark’s head like a giant hammer.
"What the hell?!"
Seeing that the skull ape had suddenly become much harder to fight, Mark’s eyelids twitched nonstop. He slightly tilted the ground so his feet had a better foothold, increasing his sideways jumping speed to dodge.
The skull ape’s two hard fists slammed heavily into the ground, causing the ground to cave in and form a small pit. The bones in its arms were also damaged by the impact.
Skull ape is also a special type among low-rank monsters. Its body has bones but no blood. Its lower body looks like a monkey, while its head is a skull. It looks more like a puppet created by piecing together independent parts than a creature that can be born and grow.
All monsters in the dungeon, no matter how strange their appearances are, share something similar with the skull ape in that they cannot reproduce or grow. They are all existences formed from the energy of hell.
If monsters could reproduce like wild animals, it would truly be a disaster. The monsters in the dungeon would just keep being born without end.
After its attack failed, the skull ape once again fell into a motionless state. Mark didn’t think much and immediately charged forward, intending to use his spear to pierce through its stomach.
Mark thought that if he kept stabbing like this, the skull ape’s body, which was full of holes, would weaken even if he couldn’t finish it off in one blow.
The moment Mark got close, the skull ape suddenly turned around and swung an extremely powerful slap at his ribs. Mark used his fastest speed to block with the spear shaft, but the difference in strength was too great.
The skull ape’s powerful slap knocked the spear away and dislocated Mark’s wrist. It didn’t stop there and turned around to swing another slap.
Although the second slap was weaker, it struck directly at Mark’s ribs, sending him flying nearly ten meters away.
Mark struggled to crawl back up, the terrifying pain and pressure from the blow making him vomit blood nonstop.
"Cough cough... How is this possible?"
Mark tried to raise his head and stare at the skull ape. Its behavior just now was completely different from before its eyes changed.
As soon as he raised his head, he saw the skull ape charging toward him at an extremely fast speed. A feeling of despair weighed heavily on Mark’s mind.
Mark had no idea how many ribs he had broken by now. His internal organs had also been injured, and on top of that, there wasn’t enough time for him to recover.
His heart was beating wildly. Adrenaline pushed his body beyond its limits, but it wasn’t enough. His adrenaline was enough for his old body, but with his body now at a different level after the transformation of his spiritual root, its effect wasn’t that great. It wasn’t because Mark had become too strong, but because the cells in his body had changed quite a lot to adapt to cultivation.
The only thing adrenaline could do was help Mark clearly see a pair of buttocks flying toward his face like a cannonball.
Buttocks?! That bastard is trying to kill me with his ass! How could I die in such a humiliating way?
Having no fighting strength left, the skull ape’s humiliation of Mark made the fighting spirit that had just gone out flare up again.
In a brief moment, he remembered his final meeting with his parents, remembered everything he had endured over the years... The power of flashback is infinite!
Time seemed to slow down infinitely, giving Mark enough time to remember a tall figure from a meeting in the past. The person’s face gradually became clear, and it was one of the faces Mark hated the most in his life.
"Mark, you know what, you’re really a lot like a skull ape."
Bell’s arrogant voice combined with his cocky expression made Mark so angry he wanted to explode. But he still tried to look carefully and listen closely because his instincts told him that important information had once appeared in this meeting he had never wanted to have.
"What do you mean?"
The teenage Mark in his memory glanced at Bell in annoyance. Even though he knew this was definitely an insult, he genuinely didn’t understand it back then.
"Such a useless idiot. I mean, you use your ass to think. Hahahaha..."
The arrogant laughter that drove Mark crazy rang out, and this memory immediately came to an end. Mark finally knew how to deal with this skull ape.
The system had just unlocked a few parts of Mark’s sealed memories. At first, the system didn’t want Mark to make use of these memories, but who could have expected Mark to be more useless than expected?
