Chapter 102: Mark Becomes Crazy
Everyone was already dead. Brann was the last one. Did they die trying to protect Mark or to protect their own lives? That no longer mattered to Mark.
Brann’s final apology before his death made Mark go crazy almost instantly. The happiest and most memorable memories of his life, when he got to travel alongside these new teammates, all came rushing back.
Everyone’s laughter, their promises, the moments when he stood side by side with them now felt like deadly knives stabbing straight into Mark’s mind.
"Everyone... Brann... What are you apologizing for in the end? I’m clearly the one at fault. I was the one who lacked decisiveness from the very beginning. It was because I refused to accept that I was trash. It was because I treasured my own life and ended up making everyone die. It’s all because of me, because of me. I could have changed this ending completely, but I... I didn’t do it. Why is a piece of trash like me the last one left alive? Why?!"
Regardless of his body being on the verge of collapse, Mark screamed and cried bitterly. The calmness he had just regained instantly disappeared.
Now, there was only overwhelming regret left in Mark’s mind. Mark had disregarded his own life, and he had tried to stay calm only to save everyone. But who could he save now?
No one... No one! The last one still standing was him, the biggest piece of trash among them all.
What could Mark do now? Take revenge? Could he even do it? Mark knew very well that the real culprit was Cerberus, not the skeleton knight that should have died long ago.
Even though Mark was now full of openings, the skeleton knight that had been fighting nimbly until now suddenly stopped moving and just stood there watching.
"You’re right, mortal. With the energy currently in your body, you can completely finish off the skeleton knight in a single attack. But how long have you been standing still there? Thirty whole minutes, maybe a little more.
Three B-rank hunters and a bunch of weaker ones managing to hold out until now is already quite impressive. Ohoho, you know, if you had been able to control your power fifteen minutes earlier, no one would have died."
Cerberus laughed with enjoyment as he leaned back against the throne and watched Mark become more and more crazy.
Killing a bunch of mortals was nothing worth worrying about to him. As long as he didn’t destroy their souls, he wouldn’t be punished.
"Cerberus! I will definitely kill you!"
Mark screamed furiously, but he couldn’t even turn around to look into Cerberus’s eyes because his body was now almost no longer obeying his control.
"Ohoho, so scared~"
"First, beat that skeleton knight to death and survive until tomorrow."
Although Cerberus said he was ’scared’, he still calmly leaned back against the throne and watched Mark like he was watching an animal perform tricks.
[What the hell is this useless mortal doing? My trash master went into his consciousness space to remind him at the cost of wasting time, and yet he is showing such a disappointing appearance. Where does he look calm at all now? The reputation of the Cultivation Academy will be ruined because of him like this.]
Seeing that Mark was about to explode soon, the system cursed in disappointment. The reputation of the Cultivation Academy didn’t even exist yet, and the system was already thinking about blaming Mark.
It even thought that if the person standing down there was White, things might have been different. With her incredible enlightenment and unwavering mind, White would definitely surpass her limits and even kill Cerberus’s incarnation, making it impossible for him to participate in this era again.
"You’re going a little too far. Mark really has learned quite a lot already. But he stayed calm to protect others, and now all the people he wanted to protect are dead."
With his face still expressionless like a stone, Nexus objectively evaluated what Mark had accomplished. He didn’t care much about the hunter team all dying either, because this was definitely going to happen anyway.
Cerberus had genuinely intended to kill everyone with a single slap the moment he appeared. If it wasn’t for Mark’s appearance, they wouldn’t even have had a chance to fight before dying.
Seriously speaking, Kael’s hunter team should even thank Nexus for bringing Mark here if they could. Instead of being wiped out, they still had Mark to help them take revenge in the future.
"I guess I’ll help him a little."
This time, Nexus decided to help Mark because Mark had already done well enough. He had even done so well that Mark’s complete enlightenment state almost broke through the seal on his memories and returned.
Nexus waved his hand, and a stream of energy shot straight into his body. It didn’t have any effect on reducing Mark’s pain, nor did it make his mind any more clear-headed. The only purpose of this energy was to ensure that no matter what happened, Mark wouldn’t explode and die on the spot.
"Ohoho, found you."
Cerberus turned his head toward Nexus, then curled up the corner of his mouth and waved in greeting. It wasn’t strange for a local to wave and greet tourists when they saw them.
Of course, Cerberus used his energy to block this sound, not allowing Mark to hear it. After all, Mark was already tense, so he couldn’t let Mark feel like all the suffering he had been going through was just a joke. If Mark completely broke down, Cerberus would have nothing left to watch.
The stream of power Nexus used wasn’t anything too powerful either. If he wanted to, Cerberus could still block it, but there was completely no need to.
Cerberus himself was also very interested in seeing whether Mark could unleash an attack capable of finishing off an A-rank skeleton knight in a single strike.
"Mortal, I won’t stop you. If you can kill that skeleton knight today, I guarantee you can survive and leave this place."
Cerberus’s words didn’t reach Mark’s ears because Mark’s ears were broken now. He couldn’t hear anything anymore.
