Chapter 33: Mark’s Helplessness

As the chase between the group and Mark grew more and more intense, Nexus had already continued on for a while.

It was just that his pace was getting slower and slower, and he was frowning because of the strange feeling in his mind.

"Why do I want to go back and watch them? Could this be the feeling of wanting to watch drama?"

Even Nexus couldn’t understand why he was having such an absurd feeling. After living for so long, he had accidentally witnessed all kinds of drama. Logically, he shouldn’t be interested in something this trivial.

Placing a hand on his chest, he could feel Lucifer’s black heart. It kept influencing him, making him more and more like a human.

"Fine, not going back to watch really does feel uncomfortable. But if Lucifer keeps exchanging with me like this, could he end up running into some serious problem?"

Even though the thought crossed his mind, Nexus didn’t really care much about Lucifer. After all, Lucifer was the one who started this, so if anything happened, it naturally wasn’t Nexus’s responsibility.

Turning around and looking through the walls, Nexus could clearly see everyone’s positions. If he didn’t want to teleport right beside Mark, he could "cheat" another way. He calculated the spot where everyone would definitely run into each other, then leisurely walked over there to wait.

---

The sewer, a place that had always been the territory of sewer rats, but today they had to hide within their own home because a bunch of lunatics were causing a huge commotion.

"Have you seen him yet? I’m definitely breaking both his legs."

The fat man panted heavily. Running around all this time with that heavy body had already exhausted him, and having to keep smelling the stench of sewage only made him even more short-tempered.

"Not yet. We hesitated for too long earlier, so we lost track of him. But we’ll probably find him soon. He wouldn’t dare go too far from this area."

One man said seriously. Based on his reasoning, no normal person would bother finding and memorizing a sewer map. The farther Mark went, the more likely he was to run into trouble because there were too many unknowns.

"Hmph, that damn little rat is obviously asking for death. Contact the other groups. We have to block every possible route he can take."

The fat man had originally only come here to vent his anger, but Mark had made him far angrier than before. At this point, even if they accidentally beat Mark to death, it wouldn’t be anything unexpected.

As soon as the fat man’s group left, Mark tremblingly stepped out of the darkness. He was already exhausted, yet those people still refused to let him go.

"Damn it! How am I supposed to escape now?"

Mark admitted those people were very smart. He really couldn’t go too far because he didn’t dare take the risk, but most of the nearby paths had already been blocked.

Suddenly, a ray of light shone onto his shoulder. The moonlight happened to reveal a manhole cover near Mark, instantly giving him hope.

"I didn’t expect there to be a manhole here. Looks like my luck isn’t completely terrible yet."

Mark let out a sigh of relief before gently lifting the manhole cover. After checking that no one was around, he carefully climbed up.

Every movement he made was so slow and gentle that even he couldn’t hear any loud sound.

Mark didn’t want those lunatics to discover him and start chasing him all over again. Right now, all he wanted was to go back to his room and sleep deeply.

Once again returning to the streets, the air that was normally considered polluted now felt as pleasant as heaven compared to the environment inside the sewer.

But Mark had no time to relax. His head turned left, then right, his eyes constantly scanning the surroundings. After confirming once more that no one was there, Mark immediately took off at full speed.

"Where do you think you’re going, little rat?"

Ron’s booming voice echoed down from the rooftop, making Mark jump.

Just now, Mark had only looked around him, completely forgetting that the enemy had a hunter strong enough to move across rooftops as easily as walking on the ground.

Under the bright moonlight, Ron’s imposing figure appeared, putting immense pressure on Mark. Just how overwhelming did someone’s strength have to be for them to casually turn their back on Mark like this?

Even though Ron couldn’t release an aura, in Mark’s eyes at this moment, the invisible aura radiating from Ron was like a towering mountain that nothing could compare to.

Although Mark didn’t know what rank Ron’s strength was, he knew there was no way to escape now. It was already too late to hide in the sewer again.

"I have no grudge against you. Why are you so determined to keep chasing me?"

Mark couldn’t think of any workable solution anymore, so all he could do was stall for time with the faint hope that the police would arrive in time to drive this bunch of troublemakers away.

"Who needs a grudge? I get paid, I do the job."

Ron leaped up and spun several times in midair, as professional as a real diving athlete. The difference was that he landed on the street instead of in a pool.

The road cracked under the concentrated impact, and a piece of debris shot into Mark’s leg. His already exhausted legs immediately staggered, and blood flowed out, staining his socks red.

Mark endured the pain and quickly backed away, but Ron’s overwhelming speed let him dash behind Mark in just a few seconds.

Ron’s hand, as hard as stone, rested on Mark’s shoulder, making Mark’s entire body tremble violently. Cold sweat soaked his back, sending a shiver through him as he didn’t dare turn around to look at Ron.

Mark’s fear was an incredibly effective remedy for Ron. During dungeon raids, Ron always felt that he was ordinary, but now he truly felt too powerful.

"Don’t shake so much. If you crawl between my legs, I promise I won’t punch you."

Ron’s arrogant voice slipped into Mark’s ears like the whisper of a demon. Could those words really be trusted?

Mark gritted his teeth. The humiliation made him feel miserable. But his strength was completely inferior to Ron’s. Fighting back with brute force would only prove he was an idiot.

Forcing himself to endure the humiliation, Mark slowly knelt down. It was only a simple kneeling motion, yet now it made his entire body tremble.

This was Mark’s body’s final act of resistance to protect what little dignity he had left.
