Chapter 112: Who Dares Break into the Spiritual Herb Storage?
The system’s jealousy was extremely obvious, but Nexus didn’t care at all. Since White wanted to keep Ziz by her side, he naturally had no need to ask for him back.
"Why bother managing Ziz and making him behave? Just leave him alone and let him do whatever he wants. Pay more attention to Mark instead."
As soon as Mark was mentioned, the system immediately remembered that someone had just wanted to help Mark fully recover.
[Hmph, just a lowly mortal and you actually think you can help Mark recover? What an idiot. With that lousy A-rank ability, you actually dare think about surpassing the supreme might of the great system?]
As soon as this matter was brought up, the system was no longer jealous of Ziz. Instead, it immediately became arrogant because it had seen the helplessness of mortals before its greatness.
"Good job. Letting Mark work hard on his own is the right way to teach him and help him go further on the path of cultivation."
Nexus nodded lightly. Although the system was very arrogant, it was also quite capable. As long as it did its job, there was naturally no reason to criticize it.
[Well done. Your stupid master rarely says such truthful words. This progress will be recorded by the great system.]
It was just a casual compliment, but the system instead felt that Nexus was gradually starting to worship it. The ability of both the system and Ziz to delude themselves was indeed top-tier.
One man and one system did not leave because they currently had nowhere to go and nothing to do. Therefore, the two decided to stand still and wait for Mark to recover on his own before setting off for the American Hunter Academy.
After returning to the Hunter Association headquarters, Peter and Emily immediately split up to take care of their own work.
Peter naturally returned to his office right away and immediately turned on his computer to check on White.
It had not even been an hour since Peter left until now, yet he was already worried sick. Although he trusted her ability very much, the worry still happened as usual.
The moment Peter looked at the screen, his eyes immediately went wide, and he jumped up and slammed his hand onto the desk. He hit it so hard that he broke off an entire corner of the desk, rather than just giving it a light tap.
"Who dares break into the spiritual herb storage?! If you dare touch White, I absolutely won’t forgive you!"
Before he could think much about it, the aura released by Peter immediately exploded. He didn’t take the elevator like usual, but instead jumped out the window and went straight down to the ground floor to save time.
While falling freely, Peter’s brain had time to think everything through more carefully. A black-haired young man with a floating system screen didn’t that match White’s description of her master?
"But how did he get past the security system?"
Peter muttered and immediately realized this question was extremely stupid. If he could teleport someone into a dungeon without anyone knowing, how could he possibly have trouble bypassing this security system?
"I’m really getting senile."
He shook his head lightly and shot out a strand of energy that stuck to the building, allowing him to land gently. It wasn’t because he was afraid of hurting his old knees that he didn’t want to crack the road from falling at high speed.
At top speed, Peter took the elevator down to the deepest basement level. Passing through all the security layers in an instant, he stopped only after standing in front of the large metal door of the spiritual herb storage.
"Should I go in or not?"
Peter furrowed his brows tightly. Just moments ago, he had been in such a hurry, but now he was just as hesitant. He hesitated because he didn’t know whether doing so would negatively affect White’s cultivation.
After going to all the trouble of using his full speed to get here, Peter now just stood there watching the screen right in front of the spiritual herb storage instead of going inside.
The clearer Nexus’s face became, the stronger the uneasy feeling in Peter’s heart grew.
"Why is White’s master so handsome? That face can actually barely compete with me in my younger days."
Peter was worried that one day White would be captivated by Nexus’s good looks and do something foolish. There was no way he would allow his beloved adopted granddaughter to date an existence that was extremely lacking in a sense of justice and impossible to understand by normal standards.
It wasn’t that he didn’t trust White’s determination toward her ideals, but what if this era really ended in the next ten or twenty years?
By then, White would have nothing left to do, and cultivators had extremely long lifespans, so who could guarantee that she wouldn’t change her mind?
And Peter would probably be dead of old age or dead in some battle by then, so there definitely wouldn’t be anyone left wise enough to advise her.
[Hahahaha, I’m dying of laughter. Is that wrinkled-faced mortal gilding his own face? How can he say his looks are better than my stupid master’s? Stupid master, he’s looking down on you.]
The system heard Peter muttering to himself and burst out laughing. It wasn’t laughing because Peter was funny, but because Peter dared to compare himself with Nexus.
Before reaching his current state, Nexus’s body had already been the strongest cultivator in the entire history of the cultivation plane. His face and entire body still retained a human form, but they had evolved to the absolute limit in both quality and aesthetics.
Peter’s appearance was pretty good too, but that was when he was old. There was nothing particularly outstanding about him when he was young. Peter’s narcissism had to reach an extremely high level for him to naturally say such blatantly untrue words.
White was cultivating but could still hear the system talking. She immediately guessed that Peter was outside the door but was hesitating and didn’t dare come in.
Feeling that if this continued, she would be disturbed by this damn system, White used energy to block all sounds from reaching her ears so she wouldn’t be distracted.
