Chapter 962 - Galewind City
Han Wu hadn’t planned on getting involved with the four adventurers, but then they mentioned they had a horse-drawn carriage and even offered to take him to Galewind City, so he reluctantly agreed to travel with them.
Along the way, the four adventurers talked about the situation in Galewind City. Han Wu kept his eyes on them, but was actually listening to the Desolation Manifestation’s translation.
It seemed that an Undead General was planning to invade Galewind City, so the city was assembling manpower and building a defensive line to resist the incoming legion.
Han Wu had no issue with the Undead General’s actions. Under different circumstances, he could have been the one they were guarding against. So, keeping the mindset of hitching a free ride without getting emotionally involved, he politely continued to listen with half an ear.
That was until the mage girl mentioned that the city lord would reward the best performer with access to his personal vault, where they could pick one treasure as a prize.
This naturally caught Han Wu’s interest. After all, his purpose in entering the White Soul Civilization was to find a treasure capable of resisting a 99% kill rate for the Death God King. The city lord’s vault could contain it. There was no way to know for sure.
Han Wu decided to help Galewind City resist the Undead General’s invasion.
The four adventurers were overjoyed, as if having already won the battle. Han Wu, on the other hand, couldn’t bother reacting, simply sitting in the carriage with his eyes closed.
Soon, the carriage arrived at Galewind City. The four adventurers brought Han Wu to the guild, claiming he was a powerful fighter who had killed the Wolf King Ferris on Wolf Mountain.
The shocked guild attendant hurried to fetch the vice president. The vice president was a shrewd old fox. When he saw Han Wu’s youthful appearance, he immediately doubted his strength and assumed that Han Wu was a fraud riding on a false reputation.
He maintained a cold attitude toward Han Wu and insisted that everything be done by the book. Regardless of Han Wu's claimed strength, he’d need to prove himself first.
Han Wu didn’t have a habit of showing off his strength to strangers. It didn’t matter if the vice president didn’t believe him. He’d fight the Undead General regardless. If the city lord tried to weasel out of the reward afterward, Han Wu would just launch a little undead invasion of his own.
Seeing Han Wu about to leave, the four adventurers hastily grabbed him, not wanting all their efforts to go to waste. After much persuading, the vice president finally agreed to a small test.
He brought Han Wu to the guild’s testing room. Inside was a golem, built to absorb strikes and measure the attacker’s strength.
Han Wu simply went through the half-hearted motions of walking up and hitting the golem with a Flash Kick.
One kick left a massive dent in the golem’s refined steel body. The explosive power left everyone in the room speechless.
“That golem is made of hundredfold-forged steel,” the vice president muttered to himself. “To kick a dent in it... His combined Attack and Strength have to be over a hundred at least. That speed was incredible too. That kind of destructive power would cause even a Third Form Undead Warrior to fall in one hit!”
He quickly shuffled up to Han Wu with a fawning smile. “Please forgive me. I didn’t know you were truly this powerful. I sincerely apologize for my earlier rudeness.”
Han Wu couldn’t be bothered listening to the vice president’s prattling and turned to leave, but the vice president trailed behind him like a shadow.
“Mighty warrior, I don’t know your name yet,” the vice president rambled. “Judging from the elegance of that kick, you must be an extremely powerful martial artist. May I ask what Form you’ve reached...”
Even with the Desolation Manifestation translating every word, Han Wu still found it grating and was on the verge of losing his temper.
At that moment, the vice president added, “I was actually hoping to arrange a suitable piece of equipment for you. Whatever you need, the guild will get it for you as quickly as possible.”
Han Wu stopped walking. Setting aside the man’s incessant chattering, he was actually quite considerate, so Han Wu decided to forgive his earlier offense.
“I need three Rank 2 accessories that boost fire attributes,” he demanded.
The vice president blinked. “Rank 2?”
Rank 2 accessories were Second Form equipment. Could this powerful warrior only be at the Second Form?
The vice president studied Han Wu with uncertainty. He couldn’t pin down Han Wu’s true strength, so he continued treating him as someone formidable.
“No problem at all. Three Rank 2 fire-attribute accessories, coming right up. We’ve prepared a guest room at the guild. Would you like a handmaiden to attend to you for the night?” the vice president asked, maintaining his professional smile.
“No.” Han Wu took the key and walked out.
The vice president watched his back, a sharp glint flashing in his eyes. “Can a Second Form really be that powerful? That shouldn’t be possible. Did I misjudge him? Whatever. It doesn’t take much to prepare three Rank 2 accessories. If he turns out to be all talk and dies on the battlefield, that’s not on me.”
After leaving the guild, Han Wu wandered the streets. Using the Refiner to break down unused equipment and materials had allowed him to accumulate a large collection of small crystals of various types. He wanted to find a blacksmith to forge them into his weapons.
Han Wu quickly found a smithy thanks to the Desolation Manifestation’s guidance. Inside, a minotaur in a leather apron was rhythmically hammering an iron ingot with a small mallet.
The coming battle against the approaching Undead General required plenty of weapons, and the minotaur blacksmith was hoping to make a killing off that demand.
When he saw Han Wu walk in, he put down the ingot and mallet, greeting him with a broad, guileless smile. “Welcome, customer. Whatever equipment you need, I’ve got the best quality goods right here.”
Han Wu glanced up at the merchandise on display, not bothering to comment on the quality. Any random adult Scorching Dwarf from his divine realm could produce better work than this.
“I’m going to forge my own equipment. I need to borrow your furnace and tools,” Han Wu said.
The minotaur shook his massive head. “No way.”
Before, he would’ve likely rented the space out for a fee, but with a war coming, he needed his forge running at full capacity to produce weapons for sale.
That was when the Desolation Manifestation prompted, “I’ve sensed something interesting in his ore basket. It could be useful to you.”
Han Wu immediately glanced at the ore basket. The minotaur tried to block him, but Han Wu threw him over his shoulder and planted his horns into the floor. It took the poor blacksmith quite a while to pull himself free.
Knowing he couldn’t fight Han Wu, the minotaur shouted in a comically high-pitched voice for his size, “Someone help! He’s stealing my forge!”
Han Wu ignored the shouting and fished a dark, lumpy chunk out of the ore basket. When he squeezed it, a diamond-shaped metal shard fell out. It was the size of a coin but weighed a full kilogram.
As he held it, he felt his life force slowly being drained away. He didn’t know what this shard was, but he could tell that it was undoubtedly something extraordinary.
