Chapter 980 - The One Who’ll Kill You
Esquiem’s mother had lived in the White Soul Civilization for over a thousand years and thus knew a little about the ancient god that the Fire Worship Cult revered. She only knew that this god had existed since the earliest days of the White Soul Civilization. They wielded dominion over fire, which the Fire Worship Cult fervently worshiped.
Han Wu immediately had the Desolation Manifestation use its access privileges to look up the ancient god based on her description, and the results came back quickly.
The Ancient Fire God was the first being in the White Soul Civilization to master the Flame Jurisdiction. In terms of the Power of Forms, this was roughly equivalent to an Eleventh Form fighter.
Han Wu swallowed hard. Two Ninth Form opponents were already a problem. An Eleventh Form was unthinkable. Each additional Form brought exponentially greater growth.
With his strength, Han Wu could at best pit his Seventh Form power against a Ninth Form opponent. An Eleventh Form was beyond anything he dared imagine.
Fighting the Ancient Fire God was out of the question, so Han Wu redirected his focus to his two Ninth Form opponents, specifically the Fire Worship Cult leader.
Everything Han Wu knew about the leader pointed to his power being almost entirely fire-based. Fortunately, Han Wu had a counter for that: his Conversion Jurisdiction.
Conversion was a hard counter to any elemental specialist. Unless the opponent had a Divine Jurisdiction that could counter it, Han Wu could absorb and convert fire energy effortlessly. There was one problem, though. Han Wu hadn’t unlocked his Conversion Jurisdiction in this world yet. Doing so required a Divine Stone, and he had already used the three he had.
“Looks like I’ll need to raid the Fire Worship Cult’s vault,” Han Wu muttered.
After explaining his plan to Esquiem’s mother, Han Wu hurried out, hoping to make the most of the time before the sacrifice.
The Desolation Manifestation scanned the area freely, since most of the building lacked the special shielding of the inner chamber, and pinpointed the vault’s location in short order. Han Wu moved toward it in Shadow Meld.
Defensive arrays surrounded the vault. Han Wu didn’t have time to find gaps in the formations, so he activated his Merged Form and forced his way through at full power.
In an instant, his appearance changed. A black robe, a wolf-head mask, and hooked claws appeared. Thirteen Shadow Blades crisscrossed behind his back. An aura of cold, untouchable menace radiated from him. His energy couldn’t be contained while in this form. It leaked outward, impossible to conceal.
It was only a matter of time before the Fire Worship Cult leader and Hennibal detected him and arrived on site. Han Wu had to find a Divine Stone inside the vault before they arrived.
“Don’t disappoint me, Fire Worship Cult,” Han Wu murmured.
His thirteen Shadow Blades slashed at the arrays guarding the vault. The blades were devastatingly powerful, and the arrays held for three measly seconds before shattering. The vault door was no obstacle at all.
Drawn by commotion, the Fire Worship Cult followers swarmed to stop him. Han Wu snorted. Bone sand poured from beneath his feet, forming seven Jackal Deathsworn warriors who charged the followers in a suicidal rush.
The followers fought desperately and even managed to destroy one Jackal Deathsworn, but the bone sand simply reformed into a new one. As long as Han Wu lived, his Jackal Deathsworn couldn’t truly die.
Han Wu ignored the brawl outside and charged into the vault. Thirteen Shadow Blades became thirteen shadow arms, rifling through everything in sight. The Desolation Manifestation simultaneously scanned every corner.
“Found it! Northeast corner!” the Desolation Manifestation called out.
Han Wu rushed to the northeast corner and dug through the contents. The two powerful presences were closing in fast.
He found it just in time. Grabbing the Divine Stone, he immediately slotted it into an empty socket and loaded his Conversion Jurisdiction onto it.
In that instant, Han Wu felt as if every rule of the White Soul Civilization had loosened its grip on him. He could feel his own power again, the kind capable of killing gods and slaying demons.
This was only an illusion, of course. He had simply regained control of the Conversion Jurisdiction.
“Who dares steal from the Fire Worship Cult!” the cult leader roared from outside the vault. A bolt of flame shot ahead of him, locked onto Han Wu, and slammed into his body.
Han Wu activated the Conversion Jurisdiction’s effect, Energy Conservation. The fire was absorbed completely and could be transformed into any other element at will.
All his earlier worries evaporated on the spot, and he answered the cult leader’s question with absolute seriousness, “Who am I? I’m the one who’ll kill you.”
