"Mi Xue, I want to go out and play. How about you come with me?" Wang Dadong knocked on Mi Xue’s door.

"Wang Dadong, I want to go too, but after rushing on the train for so long, I’m kind of tired." Mi Xue stood at the door and spoke lazily, though in her heart she was muttering, This guy still hasn’t gotten tired of calling me ’teacher’...

"It’s fine, Mi Xue, let me give you a massage, you’ll stop feeling tired right away." Saying that, he walked into the room.

Mi Xue sat on the sofa, closed her eyes, and enjoyed Wang Dadong’s gentle massage.

Wang Dadong’s fingers pressed lightly on Mi Xue’s head. "Well? Comfortable, right?"

"Mm, very comfortable." Mi Xue hummed in pleasure.

"Is it really that comfortable?" Joanna walked out from her room, her face full of fatigue. Hearing Mi Xue humming so contentedly, she asked.

"You want to know if it’s comfortable? Just come and try it yourself." Looking at Joanna’s hot figure, Wang Dadong grinned mischievously.

After more than a full day on the train, Joanna was indeed exhausted, but lying in Wang Dadong’s arms and letting him massage her—she’d rather be killed.

"No thanks." Joanna snorted coldly and went back to her room.

Wang Dadong held Mi Xue’s hand, and the two of them strolled down the street. Jingnan City is an ancient-style city, preserving many old buildings. It used to be the imperial capital for two dynasties, which makes Jingnan City all the more full of old-world charm.

The street was thronged with people coming and going. Many small vendors were hawking their wares, all kinds of local snacks, wonderfully bustling.

Passing a stall selling flower wreaths, Wang Dadong bought one and set it on Mi Xue’s head. Mi Xue was as delighted as a little girl.

Very soon, the two stopped on a stone arch bridge. A girl was sitting on the bridge, singing. Her voice was beautiful, without a trace of impurity, so pure it felt as if it could cleanse one’s soul.

A lot of people were gathered around the girl, all listening, completely absorbed.

When the song ended, the lingering notes truly seemed to hang in the air, echoing on and on.

Wang Dadong noticed a small bowl in front of the girl, with quite a few coins inside, presumably tips from the passersby.

Wang Dadong was a bit puzzled—why were people only tipping her with coins?

"Young man, you must be new here. This lass is blind, you see. She can’t see money, she only hears sounds. Every day she comes to this bridge to sing. As long as she hears someone toss money into the bowl, she’ll sing a song." An old man explained.

After hearing the old man, Wang Dadong finally noticed that although the girl’s eyes were big and bright, there wasn’t a hint of life in them.

Wang Dadong really wanted the girl to sing another song, but unfortunately he didn’t have any coins on him.

"Want to hear another song? That’s easy, I’ll pay." Suddenly a guy dressed all flashily, with dyed Yellow hair, walked over and tossed something into the bowl.

Hearing the sound, the girl started singing again.

That wonderful, melodious voice rang out, instantly capturing everyone’s soul.

Two minutes later, the song ended.

Another sound came from the bowl, and the girl started singing again.

But Wang Dadong’s brows furrowed, because what the Yellow-haired guy had thrown into the girl’s bowl wasn’t a coin at all, but a stone!

Bullying even a blind girl—this was simply too vile.

But before Wang Dadong could flare up, another passerby tossed a stone into the girl’s bowl.

Once one person did it, others followed suit. For a while, the clatter of stones hitting the bowl was nonstop.

And so, the girl’s beautiful singing did not stop.

By this point, what Wang Dadong felt was no longer anger but sorrow. The girl’s voice was pure and lovely, no worse than those celebrities. One song for just one yuan, and yet these passersby still had to take advantage of her.

These people who were taking advantage of the girl not only felt no shame, they even whispered among themselves, secretly calling the girl stupid—give her stones and she still sings.

"Xie Xie, everyone." As the girl sang through an interlude, she still didn’t forget to thank them.

Wang Dadong immediately wanted to heal the girl’s eyes, so she could get a good look at these people’s ugly faces.

Unexpectedly, Mi Xue just shook her head at him.

Wang Dadong looked at Mi Xue, puzzled.

Mi Xue whispered, "I’d rather she never know how ugly people can be inside."

Wang Dadong understood what Mi Xue meant, and simply stood off to the side, watching coldly.

By afternoon, the crowd gradually thinned out, and the girl seemed ready to pack up.

She bent down, picked up the bowl, and then began to pick out the little stones inside one by one, yet there wasn’t much change in her expression.

So the girl had known all along that what people were throwing into her bowl were stones and not money.

"Since you know they’re throwing stones, why do you still sing for them?" Wang Dadong asked in confusion.

The girl smiled faintly. "There will always be someone who gives money."

That single sentence—There will always be someone who gives money—instantly shook Wang Dadong. Even though she was blind, the girl still held onto her beautiful hope: that in this world, there are still good people.

Perhaps this wasn’t the first time she’d encountered something like this.

"Can you sing another song for me? But I don’t have any coins." Wang Dadong said gently.

The girl nodded and once more lifted her voice in song. It was ’Tomorrow Will Be Better.’

"Gently awaken the sleeping soul and slowly open your eyes

See if this busy world is still spinning on in lonely circles

The spring wind doesn’t understand love, yet it stirs a young heart

...

Let us look forward to a better tomorrow..."

When the girl’s singing ended, she suddenly felt a faint light appear before her eyes. The light grew clearer and clearer, until at last she truly saw the scene in front of her.

"My eyes..." The girl stared at her own hands in disbelief.

Her eyes could actually see.

The girl lifted her head, wanting to find the person who had spoken to her earlier, but aside from the stone arch bridge itself, there wasn’t a single person there.

Naturally, it had been Wang Dadong who had quietly healed the girl’s eyes.

Jingnan City isn’t big. The two of them played as they walked, and actually wandered out of the city. Looking out, they saw a stretch of lush green Cornfields. It was now the season when Corn ripens, big ears of Corn hanging on the green stalks. For a moment, Wang Dadong felt as if he’d gone back to the countryside.

"Mi Xue, have you ever eaten roasted Corn?" Wang Dadong suddenly asked.

Mi Xue shook her head. "No, I’ve only had it boiled."

Wang Dadong laughed. "Roasted Corn is way better than boiled. Mi Xue, wait here, I’ll roast some for you."

Soon, Wang Dadong had broken off a stalk from the Cornfield with a big ear of Corn on it. He casually gathered some branches and started roasting the Corn.

Before long, a faint, fresh fragrance floated out. Smelling it, Mi Xue was practically drooling.
