Chapter 2421 - 2414: Mi Xue Makes the Cut
Until a paper slip caught everyone’s attention.
The four Ghost Doctors were stunned after reading it, as the paper not only diagnosed all the symptoms Sun Siwen had mentioned but also identified the old man’s left leg fracture.
Bear in mind, the elder sat in a wheelchair, both legs hidden inside his trousers; knowing about his leg fracture would require X-ray-like vision, something even Sun Siwen couldn’t diagnose.
Unexpectedly, someone managed to diagnose it.
The four Ghost Doctors exchanged glances, each showing a hard-to-detect smile.
"Now, Chairman Sun will announce the shortlist!" the beautiful host said.
Amidst enthusiastic applause, Sun Siwen announced the shortlist: "After rigorous screening of 1,262 diagnostic results, a total of 617 individuals were selected. The names are as follows: Zhou Rengui, Wang Shanshan, Joanna, Wang Dadong..."
The shortlisted cheered, while those not selected sighed in disappointment.
After the announcement, Mi Xue sighed helplessly, finding her name absent. The elderly woman had so many ailments, and she only diagnosed kidney disease; it was no wonder she didn’t make it.
Wang Dadong felt puzzled inside. He had used the Great Heaven and Earth Shift to replace Mi Xue’s paper slip with his, which should be clearer than his own, yet he made it but Mi Xue didn’t.

As Wang Dadong pondered over his doubts, Sun Siwen’s voice suddenly rang out.
"Which one of you is Mi Xue?"
Though she initially had no hope, Mi Xue felt a bit downcast when the results came out. She represented her hospital but didn’t even pass the first elimination round. Even Joanna’s assistant, Jack, had made it.
Feeling down, Mi Xue seemed oblivious to Sun Siwen calling her name.
"Teacher Mi Xue, Old Man Sun is calling you," Wang Dadong nudged Mi Xue with his shoulder.
Sun Siwen repeated, "Which one of you is Miss Mi Xue?"
"Oh, me, it’s me, I’m Mi Xue." Mi Xue raised her hand, somewhat bewildered.
Seeing Mi Xue, Sun Siwen and the other three Ghost Doctors appeared surprised.
"Wh-what’s the matter?" Mi Xue stammered nervously as everyone stared at her.
Sun Siwen smiled faintly, "Nothing, Miss Mi Xue, you have made it too. Seems your name was missed during the announcement."
"What? I made it?" Mi Xue, incredulous, pointed at her pretty nose.
She had only written about one ailment.
Witnessing Mi Xue’s reaction, the four Ghost Doctors were secretly intrigued. Could it be just coincidence? Whether it’s coincidence or not, the second round will reveal.
Soon, the beautiful host’s sweet voice echoed: "Now the second task: ’Smell’—diagnose the patient’s illness by smelling their urine and feces, write the results on paper, and put them in the wooden box."
It was impossible for the patient to provide so much urine and feces. Instead, participants queued to smell the samples on tables. Each person could only smell for a few seconds, taking nearly an hour for over six hundred people.
Joanna and Mi Xue were ahead of Wang Dadong; Mi Xue smelled briefly, then quickly covered her nose and walked away. Joanna smelled carefully, especially the urine, doing it several times despite prompts from those behind her.
"Joanna, are you a fly?" Wang Dadong joked.
Joanna glared at Wang Dadong, "You’re the fly."
"You’re not a fly, so why stare at the feces like they’re hamburgers?"
The crowd felt queasy at this remark; however, Wang Dadong’s comparison of feces to hamburgers seemed odd.
When it was Wang Dadong’s turn, he walked straight past without smelling.
"Doctor, you haven’t smelled it yet?" The host looked at Wang Dadong, puzzled.
"Probably gave up, knowing he wouldn’t find anything," Jack said dismissively, having already written his result.
Wang Dadong ignored Jack, indeed unwilling to smell or unable to discern anything.
Just as Jack’s paper slip reached the wooden box, it vanished.
In a blink, it was in Wang Dadong’s hand.
Wang Dadong glanced at the slip: "The urine has a pungent odor mixed with a fishy smell, indicating severe kidney disease. Feces smell sour, which shows congenital deficiency in kidney chi; the patient is likely deaf."
"Didn’t think this kid had some skill," Wang Dadong chuckled, copying everything onto Mi Xue’s slip.
He submitted it with his own paper.
"Stop submitting diagnostic results; the judges will discuss the patient’s condition," the sweet voice called.
"Discussing the ’Smell’ technique, naturally, it’s herbal expert Li Shizhen. Old Lee will now comment," Sun Siwen said.
Li Shizhen smelled the urine and feces, "The urine is fishy and pungent, indicating kidney stones. Feces smell sour, showing congenital deficiency in kidney chi; the patient is deaf. That’s all I can determine, forgive me."
"Bring the patient out!"
The patient appeared—a young man in his twenties. He gestured, pointing to his mouth, then his ears.
Everyone understood: this man was both deaf and mute, greatly admiring Li Shizhen who, by smelling urine and feces, determined his deafness.
"Alright, we now know the diagnostic results. Judges, please select the shortlist."
About an hour later, Sun Siwen announced the selected candidates: out of over six hundred, only a hundred or so were shortlisted, including Wang Dadong, Joanna, and Mi Xue, with Jack being eliminated.
"Impossible, I got it right! Why didn’t I make it?" Jack grumbled.
"Sorry, sir, these are the reviews from the four Ghost Doctors," the host patiently explained.
"Jack," Joanna interceded, "Don’t embarrass me."
Jack shut his mouth obediently at Joanna’s word.
Wang Dadong shook his head; he could see Jack fancied Joanna. But a strong woman like Joanna wouldn’t respond well to sycophancy. Poor Jack was destined for disappointment.
Mi Xue couldn’t believe her flippant note got her shortlisted again; ecstatic, she hugged Wang Dadong’s arm and jumped joyfully, her white embrace making Wang Dadong quite pleased.
"We’re now proceeding to the third test—’Inquiry.’ The patient hides behind the screen; inquirers may ask the patient one question, diagnose based on the reply, and submit the results in the wooden box," the beautiful host said.
