15 Stories: Requests and Thunder * 3

I even painted a shield in a room in the Redgard family that was completely dedicated to me.

"How about this?

"Not bad, just a little longer vertically"

"Okay."

Draw a shield, even, listening to Laocles' opinion.

I think it's a luxury because I can bring in plenty of reference material and paint all the time in the room.

And then it feels so luxurious for Laocles to give us a proper opinion. Having the painting added this way has never happened before.

... No, this isn't a picture addition, it's a shield addition though. Yeah.

"Hey, Togo, Raocles. Time to take a break."

That's where Faye came in.

"It's been half a day."

"It's only half a day."

I want it to start on day 3 or so when I'm stuck and worried.... No, I won't say any more because I'm so sorry to say that to Faye.

"That's good. Half a day or three hours. Take a break. Take a break!

I hear Faye brought us snacks and tea. Yeah, when I saw it, I was starving.

The moist chicken, tomato and lettuce, then the sandwich stuck with cheese, somehow tasted like aristocratic rice. It's not like pinching cheese and ham in bread in a forest at all. Although I like both. [M]

"So, did you have a shield?

"Yeah, a little more"

Improve the handle part or improve the curvature. So far, I've got five prototypes. But I haven't been able to convince you yet.

"I liked the design, so the rest is tailored to Laocles' taste"

"Oh, yeah."

Yeah. The design's decided. I'm going to make it look like a Raocles sword or something.

The sword of Laocles is splendid. It's like seeing it in a cross shaped, often fantastic world. The colour is heavy silver.... dull, I wonder. It is tannic and looks good.

The blade crossing is about 80 cm. The blade is much better maintained than when I saw it at the pawnshop, so it glows hard to polish out. I think the pattern is made a little longer and maybe it can be used with both hands. Even duller than the blade, the iron grey looks good.

… Between the blade and the pattern, a beautiful golden stone is embedded in the part where the violets meet. That's brilliant, very good.

The colour taste is somewhat like Laocles. It fits perfectly.

I asked him about this and he said, 'The color of the stone was chosen by my colleagues at the time'. I want to shake hands with that colleague.

...... so I decided to make the shield taste the same color and embed the same color gems.

The edge of the shield is edged with iron grey metal embellishments similar to those of the sword. And then I asked Laocles and found out where it would be undisturbed, so I would embed there a stone of the color of the winter morning sun, similar to his eyes.

The surface of the shield is polished like a sword blade......

...... yeah.

"Kind of lonely"

That's all, it's just a little simplistic, too.

The Redgard family shield was the most useful reference for the design.

The Redgard family shield is flashy and good looking inside. The edge is golden and the center of the shield is deep red. There's a gold, Redgard family crest in there. Very good looking.

... So this shield, which is finishing with a minor change of shape of the Redgard family shield, is a bit of a lonely impression for the lack of a crest.

Well, it's not like the Redgards have my crest, and I can't help this, so let's keep it that way.

As Laocles told me, I would change the shape of my shield... and then I would paint every penny, seriously, with all my might. May you be as sturdy as possible. May this shield protect you properly, Laocles.

Use the tip of the brush, especially the gemstone part, carefully. I hope it's a good jewel.

And an hour after the break.

Finally, the shield materialized.

"... How's it going?

I saw Raocles equip his shield on his left hand and asked.

Raocles thought about something as he tried to put a shield attached to his arm or around it... then raised his mouth just a little bit.

"This will do."

... Yay!

"Good!

Finally, I have a shield for Laocles to like! Glad to hear this!

I don't know, I'm so happy for you, this. That you'd be happy with what you drew and put out, maybe for the first time? (I was delighted with the birds when I got the fountain out, and although the horses seem to like the rain shelter roof, apart from that.

"Heh. Beautiful. Let me see."

Faye takes a peek at Raocles' shield. The polished shield is enough to reflect Faye's face. Faye shy away, never touching the shield...... but with his eyes like a chunk of curiosity and interest, stare at the shield...

... And I said.

"Is this iron?

"Huh? I don't know."

I just matched the sword, so I only thought about shades and stuff. I wanted it to be as durable as possible, but I didn't know what the material was.

Faye tapped lightly on the edge of the shield, saying no to Laocles, saying, "I guess so," in my answer.

"... hmm"

Faye roars. I roared... tilted my neck.

"Demon mine?

... what the hell?

"Ready? A demon mine is a very magical mineral. Sometimes we use minerals that originally contain magic, and sometimes we grant magic while processing them."

Yeah. I don't know.

"... Oh, now you don't understand?

"Yeah."

A boulder fay. You know me very well.... or am I easy on my face?

"... er, you tell Togo to be understandable... I mean, it's so hard"

Is it too hard? Oh well. That's good. I mean, because it would protect Laocles for that matter.

"It's so hard, it's so hard to process"

Well, I guess so, I guess. But if you just draw, you don't have to work with it.

"So the 'Shield of the Demon Mine' is a very good performance... because the Demon Mine itself is precious, and there are not many craftsmen who can process it, well... that's precious"

"Huh? You can impart magic while processing, so you can make a material called a demon mine, right?

Technically, I took it personally that it was possible.

From this world, where there are few glass windows, it can be seen that it is a bit difficult to manufacture glass. That means that once that stuff is melted and crystallized, because I don't think the technology is very well developed... I mean, I wondered if I could make artificial gemstones.

Yeah. So as for 'Demon Stone', I'm convinced.

A gem with a lot of magic and magic is' Unman-made '. So demon stones, which are only available in natural things, are very expensive. I thought that was what you meant.

Conversely, there seems to be an alloy technique, and most importantly, the blacksmith seemed to do it normally, so I guess the iron and steel technique is quite there,... although I was there.

"Idiot. It's just iron, how few people can magic it."

"... Um, Faye. Is there anyone who can use magic on a gem to turn it into a magic stone?

"Oh? I've never heard of that..."

... right.

As for the jewels, they hit me a bit, but as for the demon mines... they were a more cynical world than I expected.

"So I wonder if this, the guy who uses the shield or the collector, wants it so bad that he can get his hands out of his throat... I, I don't know..."

... Oh well. Uh... well, no.

"If I lose it, I'll get it out again, and if I break it, I'll get it out again."

In the meantime, no matter how precious this shield is, I can get it out, so I hope Laocles uses it the way he wants to.

"It doesn't seem like something that breaks. First of all, is there a fool who loses this? It's a shield that's higher than my sales."

"That's unconvincing"

I'm not convinced that someone with a plaster statue like Laocles is cheaper than one shield. I'm not convinced!

... Well, that's okay.

I see you've got something good inside about the shield, and that's enough if you're going to protect Laocles.

Besides...

"... Hmm"

Raocles has been, since just now, equipped with swords and shields, trying to wrap his shield around and bareback his sword. And while he's at it, his mouth angle is slightly, but properly, up.

Apparently, Laocles liked the shield.

... As far as I'm concerned, I'm most happy with that.

Ask the Redgard family to stay that day, as we talked about.

And the room was... As a result of discussions with Faye and Faye's brother and father, and Laocles, I was to have Laocles sleep in the same room as me.

Very comforting.

"... can't you resist sleeping in the same room as a stranger?"

"Because Laocles is not a stranger"

Laocles is now moving the bed, putting his bed at the window, and keeping my bed inside. Laocles' words, 'If there is an enemy attack, it would be more from the window than from the hallway', are only reliable.

"I killed a man."

"Yeah. I'm listening."

Listening to Laocles... I found Laocles looking a little lost.

"If you don't want to talk, you don't have to..."

"No."

Before I could finish, Laocles finished moving the bed and leaned back towards the window.

"Let's talk. That's my background.... I wouldn't be comfortable being in the same room with someone who doesn't know his background."

"Though that's not particularly true"

But I'd be happy if you'd let me listen to him.

... I, too, sit back in my bed facing Raocles and wait for his story.

Then Laocles let his gaze wander around his lap a little like he was looking for words... then he started talking to me.

"I used to be a knight in the service of nobility."
