583 On My Way
My first stop on who to check was Hermione. When I stepped to where she lived with her parents, I was surprised to see a run down home and an overgrown lawn. Instead of knocking, I made myself invisible and intangible and walked through the front door to look for myself.
I found Hermione's mother drunk and sprawled out on a ratty old couch. A touch of her mind made me recoil for a moment, then I waded through years of drunkenness and being passed out nearly every day to find out what happened.
Her husband had drowned while swimming after she became pregnant. He had dived from a loose diving board and slipped, banged his head, and fell into the water. By the time everyone stopped laughing and realized he was actually hurt, he was dead.
As a consequence, Hermione's mother had been so distraught that she suffered a miscarriage. I pulled out of her alcohol addled mind after finding out she had dropped out of college and had been on government assistance ever since, because she just couldn't work on their shared passion for dentistry without him.
My next stop was the Greengrass estate and it was in pristine condition. I went inside and saw Daphne's father working at his desk in his office and his face was blank. When I probed his mind, I found out why. Unlike in canon, it was Daphne that had inherited the malediction and suffered greatly for it, so her parents had their hands full and were terrified to have another child that was constantly sick like her.
I walked through the familiar mansion and peeked into the sitting room and saw a very sad woman as she caressed the moving baby pictures. I left her there and went to Daphne's bedroom, only to see a stick thin emaciated little girl that could barely move. I walked over to her and stopped when a house elf popped in and glared at my knees.
“I's not be seeing you buts I bees feeling you.” The female elf said and wagged her finger at me. “You won't be harmings my Daphs!”
I changed myself to my Harry Potter disguise and let my invisibility fade, then made myself solid. “I only came here to check on her and found out she's like this.” I said and the elf looked up at my familiar face and gasped. “I would have come here sooner if I'd known.”
The house elf nodded several times and stepped out of the way. “The famous Harry Potter can approaches Daphs.”
“Thank you.” I said and lightly touched the top of her head. I let Panacea's power fix anything wrong with her and the slouched elf stood up straighter. I went to the bed and Daphne's eyes looked huge in her almost withered face with barely any flesh on it.
With Daphne so sick, she could barely eat without throwing it all up and had been living off of nutrient potions, which were only supposed to supplement food, not replace it. She also stared at me like she was hallucinating.
“Did your parents send in the rejection letter yet?” I asked and she shook her head. “They're afraid of revealing anything publicly?”
Daphne nodded slightly and her breathing was very shallow. She had been struggling since she was about a year old and I had to end that suffering. I reached for her head and her straw thin blonde hair and she tilted her head slightly to stop me.
“It's okay.” I said and gave her a look full of love and reassurance, which surprised her. No one had looked at her like that since she was a toddler, not even her mother. I move my hand that last bit of distance and let Panacea's power out to play. It had a lot of work to do and it transfigured energy into matter to reform and replace nearly everything inside Daphne's body.
A quick touch of Overhaul's power locked it in as her base state and Daphne gasped at all of her nerve endings lighting off at the same time. Surprisingly, the house elf hadn't tried to blast me with magic after hearing her mistress be hurt. She just stared at the reformed and completely healed little girl in front of her.
“You'll have a lot of catching up to do before school starts.” I said with a war smile and pet her healthy and flowing blonde hair, the natural curls giving it a distinctive wave pattern that was quite appealing.
“Th...” Daphne started to say and stopped, because the voice she emitted was not the soft underspoken one she had for he entire life. “Thank you, my savior.”
I let my smile fade and stopped petting her hair. “I'd warn you to keep this a secret, except there are a few others I need to visit and I suspect a lot of them are going to need my help.”
“Wait!” Daphne gasped and sat up as I faded into invisibility.
I didn't listen to her pleas to stay and went intangible before stepped from there to check on the others that had enjoyed a relationship with me in the other world. I was met with various degrees of horribleness, even with the ones that had a normal home life. Neglect, depression, and some that had died from accidents.
I helped who I could, mourned who I couldn't, and I felt glad that I had handled the biggest threat to the world already, including all of the Death Eaters that no one was going to miss, except for their wives and perhaps their children. Now I just had to take care of the minor threats and life here should get back to a more reasonable level without all the misery plaguing it.
*
Over the next few days, I took care of all the real criminals, followed their trails to their contacts and kept going, dealing with them all and sending them to the real Azkaban Prison under modified notice-me-not charms. They would still be seen and fed; but, no one would question why there were so many new prisoners or why the Dementors were so happy and well fed.
Surprisingly, a lot of the crime trails led me back to Albus Dumbledore himself. It seemed like he had a hand in everything, from who gained what job and who earned better pay. He arranged for things all over, both legal and illegal, while keeping his name and reputation out of anything that was discovered.
The biggest scam he had going was claiming the vault keys of all the orphans that didn't have magical guardians alive and was siphoning money from all of them into his own vault. He hadn't completely emptied them, since some needed money to attend school and he didn't want to give all of them charity.
The thought made me laugh and I plucked the information from his mind, even though he tried to fight it. His skills couldn't touch mine and I found out everything, including his desire to find the third Deathly Hallow, since he already had the wand and the cloak. Borrowed or stolen, they worked for whoever possessed them. He never used the cloak, since he could make himself invisible already.
The shock was Albus had actually killed Grindelwald for the wand and hadn't hidden the man away inside his own prison in Nuremgard. All of his fame and notoriety were actually earned and not contrived from assumptions. Despite that, I didn't feel guilty about putting him in the cell next to Sirius Black. They were two actual criminals that deserved to be there and it was fitting that they shared that experience.
I faked his resignation letter, using his handwriting and magical signature, and stepped from his office to the seventh floor. I went into the Room of Requirement and saw the mass of items that had gathered up over a thousand years. I vanished the garbage and useless things, fixed the books and jewellery, and stored everything else.
I didn't really need more treasure or money; but, why would I skip it and let it be lost for another century? I also found the still working vanishing cabinet on the third floor and stepped to Borgin and Burke's to take that one, too. I was sure I could put them to good use.
I walked back out of the empty room and the door behind me vanished. I thought I felt a hint of relief near me and turned around to pat the cold stone of the wall where the door was. “I'll be taking care of a couple things while I'm here, so don't worry.”
I stepped to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom and dispelled the curse on the position, since it would no longer be needed. I stepped from there to the Chamber of Secrets, not bothering to try and go down the slide or see if it was still in the girl's bathroom or not.
I decapitated the sleeping snake and checked the entire place out. As I suspected, Voldemort had cleared the place out when he had access to the place and left nothing behind. It did make me wonder what he did with it all, assuming it hadn't all rotted away from sitting inside a damp chamber for a thousand years.
Once I had that handled, I stepped from there to the Forbidden Forest and right into Aragog's nest. I decapitated him next and then handled all of his children that immediately started to rampage at the outrage. I killed them all and harvested them for their venom and silk, which was a lot, since their immense hunting grounds were completely covered in the strong webbing.
The forest looked completely different with all that prevalent webbing gone and I noticed several angry centaurs prowling around the area. I gave them a double middle finger and stepped away as they fired several arrows at me.
“Idiots.” I said and took a deep breath. I stood on top of Big Ben and went over everything and I was sure I handled it all, so I bid goodbye to this world and used my powers to step from there to land in my world in the same spot.
When I used my clairvoyance power to check on the castle and my other self, I received a shock that I hadn't thought of before. I had arranged for Hogwarts to not start until I was 14, so I had another 3 years before my other self went off to Hogwarts.
Huh. What do I do now? I asked myself and sat down on the edge of the roof and kicked my feet as I thought about it. I had three years to waste before I could come back and do something I had forgotten to do while I was Harry Potter.
The answer was right there in front of my face and I laughed when I realized what it was. I could keep stepping to the side and righting the wrongs of all the different versions of Harry Potter that existed. Well, that assumed there were any wrongs to fix. I knew that some of them had to have utopia versions of him, since this version was technically a utopia as well, thanks to my efforts.
I didn't try to scout first as I changed my appearance to Atlas and stepped to the next world over and arrived sitting in the same spot on the edge of the roof of Big Ben, then a huge explosion blew it up from underneath me and I tumbled down into the wreckage.
I stood up and wiped off the soot and grime I had gained and looked at the IRA as they stormed London in a blitz that was meant to cause shock and confusion. Leading the charge was Harry Potter himself in all of his eleven year old glory.
It was not a surprise to find out from his mind that Vernon and Petunia were sympathizers and had sold Harry into slavery to the organization years ago and Harry used his training with deadly accuracy as he shot down defenseless policemen that only wanted to stop them from hurting the civilians that his group also shot.
“What's wrong with you?” I asked him and touched each person that had been shot and they stood up and were unharmed.
“Better they suffer than me!” Harry shouted and it sounded like a kid throwing a tantrum. He pulled the trigger of his AK-47 and sprayed bullets at me. None of them did anything as they bounced off of my invulnerable body and feel to the pavement.
I sighed and walked over to him and he was shocked that I was still alive. I took the gun and broke it in half, then threw the pieces at the next idiot and hit him in the head. He was knocked out and the rest of the hit squad turned their guns on me.
“Don't be stupid. You just saw me...” I tried to warn them and they pulled their triggers anyway. I sighed again and picked Harry up, cast Protego on him, and threw him at the group. He bowled them over and all of them shouted at him for it and that they would take care of him after they reported they had succeeded in their primary mission.
I couldn't allow that, so I walked back over to where the rubble of Big Ben was and used my chronomancy power to rewind time to just before the explosion and vanished the explosives. I turned around and saw that everyone was staring at me, both the terrorists and the civilians they had previously killed.
“I can fly, too.” I said and equipped my Atlas costume and floated up into the air. “Welcome to the Age of Superheroes.”
Needless to say, there just so happened to be a news crew nearby and they had caught all of it and sent it out live. There was nothing I could do about that, so I flew over and tied up the terrorists and secured them for the police, whom looked both appreciative and put out at how quickly I had done it.
I flew off to confront the other IRA teams at other targets scattered all over London and left Harry behind, after selling his horcrux to the system of course. Since the whole event was caught on camera, Harry would have to face the charges and hope for the best. Or be their patsy and claim all responsibility for the failure. I had a feeling that would be the more likely outcome.
I kind of did the same thing I did in the last world and followed the crime trails back to high ranking government officials and then exposed them all and sent them off to Azkaban Prison. Not surprisingly, everyone thought they had fled when their crimes were published and that was perfect, since it kept their actual location a secret.
I checked the wizarding world and it was almost the same as canon, which was a surprise. I thought it would be wrecked because of the Irish wizards being so adamant about their fanaticism and devotion to their people's cause. Instead, it was calm and no one really knew what was going on in the outside world.
It sure was going to be a surprise to them if Harry already received his letter and now he could go to prison. I mentally shrugged and checked on the Horcuxes, which were the same as canon. I summoned them and the things they were attached to came with them. I sold them to the system and burned the diary and stored the others.
That was several sets of Founder's Artifacts I had now, with multiple lockets, cups, and diadems. I'd have to give them out at appropriate times, just so they weren't sitting in my inventory like a lot of other things were. Heck, I still had several old airplanes in my inventory and the parts to build one.
I mentally slapped myself on the forehead for not remembering that when I was in the various Star Trek worlds, as they would have been an immeasurable amount of worth, since a lot of that Earth's history had been wiped out.
I shook my head at that and started finding appropriate people to give powers to. I didn't want my declaration to be a false one, did I? I was international news at the moment and my face was plastered over every television set and my voice was on every radio station.
“I probably should have told them my name.” I said and caught the speeding car before it rammed into a school bus full of children. “Naughty, naughty.” I said and wagged my finger at the drunk man. “I think someone needs a timeout in jail for a few days.”
“Good call.” A man said from off to the side and I turned to see a policeman walk over. “I saw the whole thing and can file the report.”
“Ah, thank you.” I said and held a hand out for him to shake. A quick check of his mind ensured he would be a good candidate for speed powers and the brute upgrade he would need to survive moving at superspeed. “I usually have too much to do to handle all the paperwork myself.” I took out a business card and handed it to him. “I'll be available at this number for a few weeks if I need to testify.”
The officer smiled and accepted the card, read it, and gave me a questioning look.
“Yes, the Atlas that has the weight of the world on his shoulders.” I said and lifted off slowly, then waved at the kids shouting and pointing. I flew off and went to the next crime and dealt with the robbery, tied the criminals up, and returned them and the loot to the store. I was thanked and I flew off to keep working.
I would slowly make my way across the entire world and would seed several people with powers that would make the most of them. Only time would tell of what I was doing would save the world or doom it. In any case, I would move on to the next world as I used up all of the spare time I had while waiting for the other world too reach the point in the timeline I could safely return without causing a mess.
