With a soft hum, Ye Jizu hung up the phone.

"What’s wrong?" Ye Congjun asked, furrowing his brow.

"Old Master, I didn’t have a chance to tell you earlier," Ye Jizu said hurriedly. "When we went to pick up Mr. Qin, there was a small incident. A sniper launched an assassination attempt on him outside the airport! My men have already identified the mastermind, and I’ve told him to come here and report to Mr. Qin in person!"

"What?" Ye Congjun exclaimed, his eyes widening in shock.

"Yes, right as Mr. Qin was walking out of the airport to meet us! The shot came from the rooftop of an industrial building, from a range of nearly 2,000 meters! He didn’t succeed, though. Mr. Qin reflected the bullet right back into the sniper’s forehead, killing him instantly. My people checked his background; he’s a well-known mercenary who is primarily active overseas. But what puzzles me is this: someone like him should be under surveillance the moment he enters the country. How did he manage to carry out his operation so smoothly? My men checked, and he arrived on a commercial flight, completely in the open!" Ye Jizu continued in a solemn voice, meeting the old patriarch’s alarmed expression.

Hearing this, Ye Congjun’s shocked anger gave way to a moment of stunned silence, and his expression turned grave. He seemed to sense something amiss in Ye Jizu’s words and fell into a thoughtful silence.

But if he could sense that something was off, how could Qin Fan fail to notice the peculiarity of the situation? After all, having lived for hundreds of years, he was a cunning old monster. If he couldn’t even see the signs behind this matter, he would have died countless times over by now.

"It’s simple. Certain people knew he was coming for me," Qin Fan said with a smile, though a chill went down his spine. The sanctions against me haven’t even officially begun, but if this is confirmed, it certainly provides some food for thought.

This was a point both Ye Congjun and Qin Fan could see clearly. As Qin Fan’s words fell, a heavy silence enveloped the side hall. Everyone, except for Qin Fan, frowned. The information they had just learned was like a sensitive fuse, and everything now depended on how Qin Fan chose to react.

"Alright, no need for all the gloomy faces. This isn’t directed at you, so there’s no need for such concern," Qin Fan said, breaking the silence with a dismissive laugh.

"Mr. Qin, what are your thoughts?" Ye Jizu asked, looking toward Qin Fan before his grandfather could speak.

"What is there to think? Every grievance has its source, and every debt its debtor. Since they wanted to hire someone to kill me, they should be prepared to die themselves. I’m not in the habit of letting a grudge last overnight," Qin Fan said with a faint smile, as if discussing something trivial. And to him, it really was nothing significant.

"Outrageous! To hire a killer of this caliber, they are clearly not from the third world. And for someone not from the third world to act so brazenly on Jiangzhou’s turf... they’re courting death! Simply courting death!" Ye Congjun roared, unable to suppress his fury as he slammed his hand on the dining table.

To brazenly attempt an assassination on Qin Fan on the Ye Family’s territory, especially while the Ye Family themselves were there to receive him, was a blatant disregard for their power. It was like grabbing the Ye Family by the face and slapping them repeatedly.

"Mr. Qin, let me handle this!" Ye Jizu declared, his voice firm. As the undisputed underground ruler of Lingnan, he continued, "For something like this to happen in Jiangzhou, while I was personally leading the welcome party... this is also a provocation against our Ye Family! Please, allow the Ye Family to take care of this, Mr. Qin."

At that moment, he didn’t care about the identity or status of the yet-to-be-revealed mastermind. As long as they were a power within Huaxia, he would seize this opportunity to prove to the world that the Lingnan Ye Family’s methods hadn’t dulled one bit. It wouldn’t even matter if the perpetrator was overseas. The Ye Family’s Third Master had been established abroad for years. As long as it didn’t involve truly sensitive figures or clans, there was no one they couldn’t retaliate against.

"Let’s wait for the answer before we decide," Qin Fan said with a playful smile, shaking his head. Trying to get rid of me like this? What absolute ignorance. Across the entire third world, no one would attempt such a futile act, doomed to fail from the start. If I, Qin Fan, could be dealt with so easily, how would I have survived to this day?

Beyond that, however, Qin Fan couldn’t immediately pinpoint a likely suspect. After all, on his urban path of showing off and putting people in their place, he had offended more people than he could count. He could barely even recall the faces of the so-called big shots he had thoroughly humbled.

He laughed again and said, "Alright, the food is getting cold. Let’s eat and talk."

Although he was the guest, Qin Fan playfully took the lead, changing the subject as if he were the host. His adversaries had now evolved to the level of werewolves, vampires, and perhaps even the forces of the Forbidden City. He couldn’t be bothered to pay too much attention to the provocations of mere fleas and ants.

At Qin Fan’s words, Ye Congjun’s mood shifted quickly. He let out a hearty laugh and was the first to pick up his chopsticks. The conversation gradually drifted from heavy, sensitive topics to lighthearted stories and amusing anecdotes.

「Meanwhile.」

In a lavish mansion somewhere in Jiangzhou, a young man sat anxiously in front of his computer, incessantly refreshing his email. Hours had passed, but there was still no reply. He gazed out the window at the deepening night.
