Chapter 706 - 657: The Goddess Has a Dream, The Prince Has No Heart! (1)
Meanwhile, in a luxurious villa in Jiangzhou, a woman was watching a video on her computer that had reached ten million views, tears streaming down her face.
She had lost count of how many times she had watched the ten-minute video. Yet, with each playback, she could not stop the tears of unrequited love from flowing. Although she kept telling herself not to cry, she couldn’t hold them back.
The video was of Qin Fan’s performance and his heartfelt confession during the Jinling University New Year’s Eve gala.
Every girl envisioned herself as Zixia, hoping for a Supreme to appear in her life who could both protect and love her. And now, the Supreme had appeared, but she was not Qing Xia.
This unrequited love, which had lasted for months, was on the verge of shattering Ji Yuchen’s emotional world. Over the past few months at Peking University, the number of suitors pursuing her was enough to form an entire battalion. But her heart had never stirred, not even in the slightest. The figure and face she longed for day and night had already taken root deep within her heart, impossible to uproot or wave away.
As the dialogue in the video played again, her tears fell like rain. "What should I do? What on earth should I do?"
CLICK!
At that moment, the unlocked bedroom door creaked open, and a figure walked in with a heavy sigh.
"Yuchen!" the woman lamented, her voice filled with sorrow. She opened her mouth to speak, but she couldn’t bear to see her daughter in such a state.
A mother knows her daughter best. Ji Yuchen’s feelings couldn’t possibly escape Yan Huixian’s notice. As someone who had been through this herself, she saw a reflection of her twenty-year-old self in her tear-stained daughter.
"Mom!" Hearing the call, Ji Yuchen wiped away her tears and tried to rein in her emotions, her voice cracking as she turned to face her.
Without another word, Yan Huixian’s heart ached as she walked over and embraced Ji Yuchen.
"Mom, what should I do? What should I do?" Ji Yuchen sobbed, her body trembling in her mother’s arms.
How could Yan Huixian not understand her daughter’s feelings for Qin Fan? Speaking of him, she still vividly remembered his stunning performance at the Lingnan Fengshui Association. As she dug deeper, inquiring about him from various sources, the image of a peerless genius who had feigned weakness for more than a decade began to form in her mind.
If it were possible, she would dream of having Qin Fan as her son-in-law. But love could not be forced.
Sensing her daughter’s struggle and the collapse brought on by her unrequited love, an indescribable sorrow appeared on Yan Huixian’s face. "Either forget him or go all out and pursue him," she sighed. "But if you choose the latter, it is bound to be a bitter and tiring path. It’s very likely all your time and effort will be for nothing. Yuchen, your mother has been through this. I have experienced that pain and sorrow, and I truly don’t want you to repeat my mistakes. I admit, Qin Fan is outstanding, as brilliant as the brightest star in the sky. But if you can, I don’t want you to continue suffering endlessly in this state of longing. Can you forget him? Please, try to forget him. You’re still young, and you might not understand what love truly is. This so-called heartache is just the confusion of a first crush. I hope you don’t let yourself drown in it. You are young, so don’t be hasty. Let yourself mature, and a more suitable man will appear one day. A woman’s life is about finding someone who loves you deeply, not someone you lose yourself completely to. I’ve been down that road; I have experienced that pain. It is loneliness, a kind of loneliness that will leave you exhausted and miserable. I am a living example of that!"
Yan Huixian spoke slowly, struggling with her own words as she held Ji Yuchen, who was still crying against her while sitting in the computer chair. As a mother, all she wanted was for her daughter to be happy, but Ji Yuchen’s current state was breaking her heart. Thinking about the path she herself had walked for all these years, she couldn’t help but worry for her daughter. If Ji Yuchen followed in her footsteps, the road would be too arduous, and it was highly likely to end in emptiness.
"Mom, I know, but I can’t forget him! As soon as I close my eyes, his face is all I can see! Even in my dreams, I can’t stop myself from dreaming about him! Mom, I can’t forget him, I just can’t!" The sobbing continued, and Ji Yuchen cried out as if she were on the verge of a complete breakdown.
They say love is a form of madness, especially for young women experiencing their first captivating infatuation. At this moment, Ji Yuchen was the perfect embodiment of this.
"Then go after him. Try to get an answer for yourself, one way or another," Yan Huixian finally said with a heavy heart after a moment’s pause.
Since persuasion was futile, there was only one path left for Ji Yuchen: the path of facing rejection until her feelings died out. Having researched Qin Fan, Yan Huixian knew about his life at Jinling University. She held no hope for her daughter’s chances, no matter how passionately she pursued him. Ji Yuchen’s infatuation was, in the end, nothing more than a tragic twist of fate, one that was destined to bear no fruit.
"Mom, I want to be alone for a bit."
At her mother’s words, Ji Yuchen pulled away from the embrace and whimpered, her face tear-streaked.
Shaking her head with a sigh, Yan Huixian said, "Alright, take some time to yourself. It’s getting late, so get some sleep. Don’t stay up. Whatever it is can wait until tomorrow, okay?"
"Okay."
After Ji Yuchen nodded, Yan Huixian walked out of the bedroom, her face etched with worry.
Turning back to the computer, Ji Yuchen saw that the ten-minute video had finished playing. She didn’t press replay. Instead, she slumped forward, her head resting on the desk.
Several minutes passed before she lifted her head again, a look of resolve in her eyes.
She picked up her phone and dialed the number that had long been seared into her memory.
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.
The ringing continued for dozens of seconds before the line disconnected. From start to finish, no one answered.
In Qin Fan’s bedroom at No.1 Villa, the screen of the silenced phone on the nightstand lit up again and again. But Qin Fan, lost in a tender embrace with a beauty in his arms, remained completely oblivious.
「The next day.」
When Qin Fan opened his eyes, Jiang Yino was still sound asleep. Her small head was still resting on his chest, having barely moved all night. Her breathing was even and rhythmic. The previous night’s activities had nearly drained all her energy, and in her deep exhaustion, she remained in a profound slumber.
Smiling silently, Qin Fan gently kissed her forehead, careful not to wake her. He didn’t get up right away, instead reaching for his phone on the nightstand. When he saw a dozen missed calls from an unsaved number, his brow furrowed.
Who would call so many times in the middle of the night?
Puzzled, he dialed the number back.
"Hello?" a groggy voice answered on the other end. Ji Yuchen, who had only just fallen asleep after a sleepless night, had picked up the call.
A woman’s voice?
Hearing the voice, Qin Fan grew even more confused. "Who am I speaking with?"
WHOOSH!
On the other end, though she was still half-asleep, hearing that voice she had been dreaming of shocked Ji Yuchen wide awake. "Qin Fan?" she exclaimed.
"It’s me. Who is this?" The voice was vaguely familiar, but he couldn’t quite place it, and his frown deepened. He didn’t think he had many female friends.
"Qin Fan, it’s Ji Yuchen!" Ji Yuchen shot up in bed, her voice trembling with nervousness.
Ji Yuchen?
Hearing the name, a muscle in Qin Fan’s face twitched. How could he not know about her feelings for him? Especially after what He Xinyi had said just yesterday.
At this, Qin Fan fell silent. The goddess may have her dreams, but this prince had been indifferent from the start. Knowing of Ji Yuchen’s infatuation, Qin Fan didn’t know how to face her. He lapsed into a sudden silence.
On the other end, Ji Yuchen held her breath, her heart pounding with anxiety as she waited for him to respond. In that moment, her heart was racing more fiercely than it ever did during her college entrance exams.
"Yuchen, is something wrong? Why did you call me so many times last night?" After a moment of silence, Qin Fan knew he had to face the situation and finally spoke with a quiet sigh.
"Qin Fan, I missed you!" Ignoring his detached tone, Ji Yuchen couldn’t help but cover her mouth and cry as she spoke.
With that one confession, she poured out all the longing she had bottled up over the past few months.
