Chapter 840: A Day to Celebrate
Usually, Higo would use the day after losing a game to just sit on his comfortable couch, letting his mind get immersed in the memory of the game from yesterday. He would lament on what happened at that game, what caused him to lose a goal, imagining so many what-if scenarios, and getting dwelled by that kind of thought without doing anything productive.
However, this time, it was different.
Even though he was still sitting on his flat, together with Kumiko and Sakura, they were all staring at the juicy pizza in front of them, still fresh from the oven. The savory smell that came out before the box was even opened was enough to make their stomach grumble loudly.
Not only that, though, a bucket of hot fried chicken was there, complete with the fizzy drink that was still cold from the fridge. Honestly, this was not something that a footballer like Higo should consume at all.
"Are you sure that you are allowed to eat this, Ryukkun?" Kumiko asked, looking at the boy with a concerned gaze.
"... Don’t worry, today is a special day, and I can consider it my cheat day. I have already consulted with the people on the nutrition department, and he had already given me a green light." Higo answered without even batting an eye at the pizza on the table. "Anyway, there is no way I would miss celebrating your academic achievement! Come on! Ittadakimasu!"
Yeah, it came out of nowhere, but after Higo received the news from Sakura that Kumiko achieved a perfect grade, 1.0, with the extra note of Sehr Gut and a little information that she was the number one student in her department, Higo decided to turn the whole day into a celebration day.
He brought all of the girl’s favorite junk food that she had never dared to buy before, turned on the television for her favorite Netflix, and even started to share the whole thing on social media, enough to embarrass her for the whole year.
"It is just a grade; why would you be exaggerating so much?" The girl mumbled shyly.
"Well, for you, it is just a grade, but for me, this is a big flex, Kumiko-chan!" Higo grinned while enjoying the hot fried chicken in his hand. "Number one in your department... Even in this foreign land, you are still the best student ever! I am so proud of you! Even Sakura couldn’t get that, right?" He shifted his glance to the other girl teasingly.
Sakura herself just made some rude hand gestures while chewing the pizza that she had her eyes on before finally speaking with her mouth full of food, "I god... 1.7... Id is already good!"
Higo just looked at the girl in disgust while Kumiko stifled her laughter here, finding her day to be better by miles even though it was still morning right now.
"Still, it is funny that you only get 1, you know?" Higo snorted while enjoying the food here. "I swear, I have a heart attack, thinking that you are being the worst student in your department. Who would’ve thought that the perfect score would be 1?"
Indeed, unlike in Japan, where 1 was the worst that the student could get, in Germany, the smaller the number that the student got, the better the grade would be. Sakura laughed her ass off when she heard the sheer panic in Higo’s voice here, something that she would always mention whenever the girl wanted to embarrass him.
Of course, getting a perfect 1 point was rare. Sakura herself admitted that only a few managed to get one, as the lecturers in this country were infamous for being strict with their grades. That was why Higo was so proud after realizing that once again, her girlfriend managed to stand on top of her academic career.
After that, though, the day seemed to get better for everyone.
Sakura finally received the news from her boyfriend, Hiroki Kawabe, that his flight to Germany had already been scheduled for the next week, and while she wouldn’t be able to pick him up due to the travel limitations of this COVID-19 era, the girl was still ecstatic to have him in the same country like this.
As for Higo... Well, let’s just say that Fujita-san called him in the afternoon, giving the boy so many details of the brand deal that was offered to him. After Lewandowski’s comment about him yesterday, it seemed that the whole world got impatient, offering a luxurious contract to get Higo representing their brand.
"Anything else can wait, but I think you can sign the deal for two things first." The agent spoke through the call.
"Oh?" Higo raised one of his eyebrows lightly, waiting for an explanation.
"Yup! First, Daihatsu wants to sign a deal with you. You know that car company, right?" The agent asked.
Higo didn’t answer verbally, but indeed, the boy knew that it was one of the biggest car companies in the country.
"They want you to start using their product and become their brand ambassador. Their term is also quite luxurious, and since you mentioned to me that you wanted to buy a car, I thought, why not?"
Well, Higo couldn’t deny the logic here. He was almost done with his driving class and would receive the license in around a week or two, so instead of spending several hundred thousand Euros to buy a new car, why not make a deal and receive it free of charge?
"So, what is the second deal that you recommend I sign?" He asked, remembering that the car was the first matter here.
"It is your boots, of course!" Fujita-san said as a matter of fact. "I have seen what you wear in almost every game, and honestly, it is infuriating that Adidas has never contacted you despite you always using their product. Still, Nike and several apparel brands have already gotten in touch with me, so don’t worry about it!"

After that, Fujita-san explained so many things that Higo himself couldn’t really understand even half of it. Still, one thing for sure here was that it would bring more money to his bank account, and honestly, the boy couldn’t be happier than that right now.
’Yeah, even if I lost the game yesterday, at least everything turned out to be perfect today. Man, what a great day...’
