Gray left the western edge behind, the open water and its silver schools fading into the blue as he pulsed back toward the dense central thicket.

He checked his status as he moved.

The kelp thickened around him, the fronds growing denser and darker as he pushed deeper into Morrath territory.
’Last time, they ambushed me. This time, I’m hunting them.’
He found a good position near a cluster of thick kelp stalks where the fronds formed a natural corridor. Narrow enough to limit the Morrath’s movement, wide enough for him to maneuver. He let his Bioluminescent Pulse brighten, the pink-blue-violet glow spilling through the water like a beacon.
Then he waited.
Morraths were ambush predators. They sensed bioelectric fields and struck from hiding. But that dependence on electroreception was also their weakness. Overcharge didn’t just damage them—it overloaded their primary sense, left them blind and disoriented. And now he had Photic Overload as a backup, an electromagnetic flash that would scramble their senses even if Overcharge was on cooldown.
He didn’t have to wait long.
The vibration came from his left—sinuous, deliberate, the unmistakable rhythm of a Morrath weaving through the kelp. Gray tracked it with his tentacles, reading its position, its speed, its intent. It was circling him, just like last time. Testing his awareness. Looking for an opening.
’Come on, I’m right here. Big glowing target. Can’t miss me.’
The Morrath lunged at him with terrifying speed.
Gray was already moving. Nineteen SPD carried him sideways, and the Morrath’s flat head shot past him, its hidden jaws snapping shut on empty water. He deployed Toxin Cloud directly in its path, and the creature plowed through the venom as it turned for another pass.

He wrapped his tentacles around its head and squeezed.

The Morrath lunged, and Gray was already moving.
