Chapter 118: Emergency meeting 2

Was he really going to make this her fault?

When the hell had he gotten behind her?

And what the hell was happening?

Yuki slowly turned around. Kieran had already stepped out of the car and was walking towards them, his expression far too calm for someone who had just had a breakdown.

Yuki smiled sweetly, her voice dripping with false politeness. "Of course I didn’t want to get in," she sneered at him. Kieran’s eyebrow rose in silent challenge.

Yuki folded her arms across her chest, her tone sharpening. "You stopped in the middle of nowhere and sat there gripping the steering wheel like you were about to snap. It seemed like you wanted to kill me and hide the body." She clicked her tongue.

Kieran rolled his eyes, the gesture slow and deliberate, and far too dramatic for him. Yuki stared at him. What was wrong with him? Suddenly, his cold face had developed a personality.

Killian cleared his throat, drawing their attention back to him. His gaze settled on Yuki, quiet concern threading through his voice. "How are you doing now?" he asked.

Yuki frowned, uncertainty flickering across her face. "Fine, I guess," she shrugged.

Killian studied her for another moment, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Can you feel your wolf?" he inquired.

The question immediately wiped the amusement from Yuki’s face. She looked between the three brothers, her voice dropping. "Why are you asking?" Her eyes narrowed.

None of them answered immediately. Kaden slowly unfolded his arms, his attention shifting towards his brothers. Kieran’s expression became unreadable, while Killian glanced briefly at both of them before returning his attention to Yuki.

And suddenly, Yuki understood. Her stomach dropped. "This emergency meeting..." she began slowly, the pieces clicking into place.

Killian’s expression hardened. "It’s because of us," he said quietly, the words weighted with something heavier than a simple explanation.

Yuki’s heart sank. "Us?" That gut feeling got worse.

Killian nodded. His eyes remained fixed on her as a cold dread settled deep inside her stomach.

"What’s going on?" Yuki asked, unable to tolerate the silence any longer. Her voice carried a sharp edge of demand.

Kaden straightened from the SUV, adjusting the sleeve of his black shirt with an impatient tug. "You’ll know once we get inside," he said flatly. "Let’s just get this over with."

He turned and started walking towards the palace. Yuki watched him go. Of course. Because apparently no one in this family had ever heard of something as simple as explaining what was happening before dragging someone into an emergency meeting.

Kieran gave her a brief glance before following after Kaden. Killian was the last to move. "Come on," he urged quietly. "They’re waiting in the throne room."

Yuki looked towards the towering entrance of the Obsidian Palace. Her stomach twisted again. The throne room. That didn’t sound reassuring. It couldn’t be what she thought it was, could it?

She took a breath and started walking. Killian followed beside her.

They stepped into the Obsidian Palace, and the atmosphere immediately changed. The cool marble beneath Yuki’s shoes echoed with every step, while the high ceilings and enormous pillars made the entrance feel even more imposing than she remembered. Servants and palace staff moved through the corridors, but the moment they noticed Killian, they straightened.

"Lord Killian."

"Good evening, my lord."

"Lord Killian."

One after another, they lowered their heads respectfully as he passed. Killian acknowledged them with small nods, never breaking his stride. A few feet ahead, Kaden and Kieran walked side by side, receiving similar treatment.

Yuki stared at their backs. For a moment, she understood why people constantly mistook the two for twins. They were almost identical in height and build, both carrying the same imposing presence that seemed to follow every Ravencourt brother. The only obvious difference from this angle was Kaden’s messy bun, which was already coming loose around his shoulders.

Yuki glanced at Killian. He was different. He shared some of their features, but his resemblance to their mother was far more obvious. Where Kaden and Kieran had inherited much of Alexander’s appearance, Killian had taken after Estelle.

Yuki tilted her head, her voice lightly teasing. "Don’t you ever feel left out?" she asked, trying to distract herself from her thoughts.

Killian glanced down at her, one brow lifting. "Why would I?"

"You’re the only triplet who looks like your mother." Killian’s lips twitched. Yuki gestured towards the two men walking ahead of them. "Those two jerks look like your father."

Killian’s mouth twitched harder. "You didn’t have to call them jerks," he pointed out mildly.

Yuki looked at him, her tone flat. "It’s fair to call people who can’t stand you jerks," she retorted.

"We are all perfectly civil," Killian said, trying to keep his face straight.

Yuki scoffed. "Civil and Kaden in the same sentence, but then again, you would put Eloise and angel in the same sentence too." Killian was stunned. When did this little fox get so brazen?

Killian’s amusement grew faintly. "And for the record, I like the fact that I never get mistaken for my brothers." Killian shrugged. "It means people know exactly who they’re dealing with."

Yuki snorted. "So you all can be vocal about your dislike for me, but I’m not allowed to call them jerks?"

Killian gave her a sideways glance. Yuki’s smile widened. "Besides, Alexander is going to finish the adoption procedure soon. Then I’ll be able to call you all whatever I want," she chimed in.

Killian’s eyebrows rose. Yuki continued cheerfully, her voice bright with deliberate provocation. "You can hate me as much as you want, and I’ll insult you right back. We’re going to make one interesting family."

Killian’s lips twitched. He knew exactly what she was doing. Yuki was talking about the adoption to irritate them. She was deliberately poking at the one thing she knew they could not stand.

Ahead of them, Kaden’s pace slowed almost imperceptibly. He had heard her. Of course he had. Kaden already knew about Alexander’s plans to officially adopt Yuki, but knowing it was happening and hearing Yuki casually talk about becoming a Ravencourt were two very different things.

The thought of her carrying the Ravencourt name sat badly with him. The thought of calling her his sister was even worse.
