Chapter 153: Trust!
Ella.
I stood there in complete silence, my thoughts refusing to settle.
The masked man’s voice continued to echo relentlessly inside my head, replaying over and over until it became impossible to ignore.
I couldn’t stop wondering why he had been after my blood.
What was so important about me?
What made my blood so valuable that he had gone to such terrifying lengths to obtain it?
And just then, another horrifying thought surfaced—he hadn’t been satisfied with my blood, and that had led him to the point of him even suggesting using the blood of my child.
My hand instinctively flew to my stomach, and a chill ran down my spine.
They deliberately wanted me to get pregnant all these years and right now...I was pregnant.
Did he already know about it?
Had he somehow discovered that I was carrying a pup?
The possibility alone made my breathing grow uneven, and another question quickly followed.
Was he the one who had set me up with Alex?
I mean everything is no longer seeming like a coincidence anymore.
And I couldn’t help the question that formed in my mind—had everything that happened between us been carefully orchestrated from the very beginning?
And if that were true...did Alex know anything about all of this?
Was he aware of the masked man’s intentions?
Or had he been completely oblivious?
No matter how hard I thought about it, I couldn’t find a single answer.
Question after question continued to flood my mind without mercy.
The more I reflected on everything that had happened over the last six years, the more unnatural my entire life began to feel.
Nothing seemed random anymore, as everything felt planned and everything felt monitored.
As though someone had been watching every step I took from the shadows.
The realization stripped away every remaining sense of safety I had.
Fear wrapped itself tightly around my heart until panic completely seized me.
I couldn’t stay here.
Without another thought, I immediately pushed myself to my feet, intending to leave the room.
Before I could take a single step, the door suddenly swung open.
I froze.
It was Lawrence.
The moment he saw me, his expression immediately changed.
"Theresa, are you okay?" he asked anxiously as he hurried inside.
Before I could even answer, he rushed straight toward me.
"Talk to me!" he demanded, his voice filled with concern.
"My pup, Lawrence..." I gasped between uneven breaths, instinctively clutching my stomach tightly with both hands.
My fingers trembled against my belly.
"What’s going on?" he asked immediately, as his brows knitted together in worry as he searched my face. "Calm down and speak to me."
"My pup and I are in danger!" I cried out loudly.
Lawrence stared at me in confusion for a brief moment before wrapping his arms around me, trying to steady my trembling body.
"My memories..." I whispered, struggling to control my breathing. "They’ve been surfacing lately."
His eyes widened in shock.
"What?" He immediately pulled back just enough to grip my shoulders firmly. "Why didn’t you tell us about it?" He added as his gaze searched mine with unwavering seriousness. "Tell me, Theresa," he said firmly. "I swear I’ll protect you."
I lifted my gaze and looked directly into Lawrence’s eyes.
For a long moment, neither of us spoke.
There was something in his expression that made it difficult to look away.
The concern reflected in his eyes was genuine. There wasn’t even the slightest trace of hesitation, only sincerity and only determination.
I had no doubt that he truly meant every word he had just spoken.
If anything happened to me, Lawrence would undoubtedly do everything within his power to protect me.
That much, I believed.
But...Would he protect my pup too?
That was the question that refused to leave my mind.
The warmth in his gaze couldn’t erase the uncertainty buried deep inside my heart.
I swallowed hard.
My throat suddenly felt painfully dry.
After several moments of silent contemplation, I finally reached a decision.
No matter how frightened I was...I had to tell him.
Out of all three brothers, Lawrence was the one I trusted the most. He had always seemed calmer, more dependable and more reliable than the others.
If there was anyone I could place a little faith in...It was him.
"I..." I slowly parted my lips, finally gathering enough courage to speak.
Before another word could escape me, the bedroom door suddenly opened again.
The interruption made me pause.
I instinctively turned toward the entrance.
Bella stepped inside first.
Behind her came the rest of the triplets.
The room, which had briefly felt quiet, instantly became crowded again.
"Theresa, did we do anything wrong?" Lurgard asked as he stepped toward me.
His voice carried genuine confusion, and his brows were drawn together with concern.
"Now is not the time, Lurgard," Lawrence immediately cut in.
His tone became noticeably firmer as he turned to glare at his brother.
The warning in his eyes was unmistakable.
"What do you mean by that?" Lurgard asked, clearly irritated by Lawrence’s reaction.
A hint of annoyance crept into his voice as he frowned.
Before either of them could continue, Leonard ignored the growing tension between the two brothers altogether.
His attention remained completely fixed on me.
Without hesitation, he walked over and gently took hold of my hands.
"Tell me, Theresa," he said anxiously. "Did anything bad happen?"
I simply stared at him in silence.
Even if I had managed to place some trust in Lawrence...even if I was slowly beginning to trust Lurgard a little as well...there was one person I couldn’t bring myself to trust.
Leonard.
Especially when it came to matters concerning my pup.
Deep down, I was convinced he despised my child.
That belief alone was enough to keep my guard firmly in place.
"Tell me, Theresa," Leonard pleaded once again, his grip tightening slightly around my hands. "I’m ready to do anything for you."
