Lurgard.

Be it Lurgard or be it Leonard, they were both getting on my last nerves.

Each of them constantly wanted to act as though Theresa belonged solely to them, posturing and laying claim as if the rest of us didn’t even exist in her life.

Can you just imagine the absolute nerve and audacity of these men?

I am certainly not going to leave this room for either of them, no matter how much they try to push me out!

And as for Lawrence, I will personally prove to him beyond any shadow of a doubt that Theresa only desires me amongst the three of us.

She only truly melts into my touch whenever I hold her close—isn’t that more than enough concrete proof to shut them all up once and for all?

I thought bitterly to myself as I glanced over at Lawrence, my chest heaving with nothing but raw, unfiltered anger.

In that moment, a desperate urge washed over me; I really just wanted to pick Theresa up in my arms and flee far away from this place! I realized then that I should have taken full advantage of her temporary memory loss back when I had the chance, relentlessly pressing the point that we were devoted lovers until she was completely convinced and fled away with me for good.

I shifted my gaze and glanced back at Leonard, who still didn’t seem to have any words left to say as he sat quietly by the edge of the bed.

"Whatever it is you are currently thinking, just quit it," Leonard said firmly, his sharp voice breaking the heavy tension, and he looked away from the two of us, keeping his eyes fixed entirely on Theresa’s pale face as she lay motionless on the mattress. "Since you have both stubbornly decided not to leave the room, then at the very least, ensure you keep your mouths quiet," he added, his tone cold and unyielding.

I rolled my eyes immediately at his bossy declaration. He was clearly trying so hard to act all superior and mighty in front of us, but I knew deep down that we had successfully exposed his secret, selfish plan to have her all to himself the second she woke up.

"We won’t make a sound!" I said teasingly, my voice dripping with deliberate irony as I watched just how thoroughly uncomfortable Leonard was looking under our combined scrutiny.

That was right—he was the one Theresa had loved the most back then, the undisputed favorite in her heart. But now, she was completely distant from him, treating him with a cold hesitation that cut deeper than any blade.

It was really a massive, ironic twist of events, and he had to be suffering immensely from the fallout of it all, his mind constantly filled with agonizing regrets over whatever went wrong between them.

I chuckled slightly to myself, taking a petty sort of satisfaction in his hidden pain. I had to actively fight back every overwhelming desire in me to taunt him further, reminding myself that I had just promised not to make another sound in this room.

I forced myself to look away from his gloomy face, turning my eyes toward the wall and doing my absolute best not to look at Lawrence either, for his smug presence alone was pissing me off to no end.

But then, suddenly, Leonard’s voice echoed loudly through the quiet room, breaking the tense silence and causing me to snap my head around immediately.

"Theresa!" Leonard called out, his tone sharp with a sudden, breathless intensity.

She was finally awake.

The instant I saw her dark eyelashes flutter ever so slightly before slowly lifting, every ounce of composure I had fought so hard to maintain crumbled without resistance. It happened so quickly that I didn’t even realize I had moved until my feet were already carrying me across the room.

The place where I had been standing moments ago was forgotten as I rushed straight toward Theresa’s bedside, drawn to her as though nothing else in the world existed.

A powerful wave of relief crashed over me with such force that it nearly stole the strength from my legs.

Thank the Goddess...she was alive and was truly fine.

The operation was behind us, and against all the fear, uncertainty, and endless waiting, she had made it through. She was here, lying before us, breathing steadily, her chest rising and falling in a gentle rhythm. More importantly, she was conscious—that alone felt like a miracle.

I stopped beside her bed, my gaze immediately settling on her delicate, fragile face. Every feature seemed painfully precious in that moment. My eyes searched hers anxiously, unable to look away even for a second.

My heart pounded violently against my ribs, each beat louder than the last, filling my ears as anticipation tightened around my chest. I held my breath without even realizing it, waiting eagerly for the sound of her voice.

I wanted to hear her.

The room seemed to fade into the background as every ounce of my attention remained fixed on her.

Then, at last, her lips slowly parted, and for the briefest moment, hope surged through me, warm and overwhelming, filling every corner of my heart.

But the very first word that escaped her lips destroyed it just as quickly.

The sound struck me with devastating force, shattering my heart into a thousand razor-sharp pieces, leaving nothing behind but a crushing ache that spread through my entire chest.

"Lawrence...!" Theresa’s soft, raspy voice called out, her hazy eyes searching the room specifically for him.

My face paled instantly, the warm relief draining from my skin and leaving me utterly numb. I clenched my fists so tightly that my nails dug painfully into my palms as Lawrence’s eyes lit up and he eagerly rushed past us toward her side, a look of pure, triumphant excitement plastered across his features.

Of all the people standing in this room, waiting and agonizing over her life, why on earth did it have to be him she thought of first the very moment she opened her eyes?
