Chapter 1460 - 1450: I’ll Wait for You to Settle This Grudge with Me
"Did you need to see me for something?" Constantine Stewart gracefully set down his utensils, wiped his alluringly thin lips, and coldly began to speak.
Loretta Johnson stood at the entrance of the side hall, her gaze swept over Chloe Winston with some resentment, but she quickly concealed it with a slight smile, saying, "I had someone bring some supplements a few days ago. I wanted to check if your leg has gotten better."
As Loretta spoke, she placed the supplements she brought on the small table beside the dining table. Seeing the two dining with eight dishes set out, along with various desserts and freshly squeezed juices, clearly tailored to Chloe Winston’s youthful tastes, she couldn’t help but feel a bit jealous, jokingly said, "Chloe’s here too, how’s the filming going? I heard you bought a house?"
Noticing Chloe’s hair was half-dry and she was dressed casually in a small home skirt, clearly just bathed, Loretta didn’t know whether Chloe lived here or something unspeakable happened between them, making her deeply resentful, yet she tried hard to control her expression.
Chloe had a very poor impression of her. Last year, when Loretta showed up, she pretended to be pitiful, and Chloe foolishly thought to help her, only for Loretta to turn around and kick Chloe out, playing different roles publicly and privately, enjoying her success.
Thinking of how Loretta reached this point all thanks to Constantine Stewart, Chloe’s face momentarily turned cold, she said plainly, "I bought it with debt, so I won’t worry about being kicked out again anytime. The house is small, not like your luxurious villa."
Loretta’s villa was worth millions at least, the money naturally came from Constantine Stewart. She felt it was achingly ironic.
Constantine Stewart’s tall and upright figure stiffened slightly upon hearing this, his gaze towards Loretta turned cold. Was this woman addicted to leeching off him?
"When did you buy the villa?" the man asked nonchalantly.
Loretta’s heart skipped a beat, the money for her villa was borrowed from the company, essentially it was given by the company. Constantine Stewart wouldn’t seek repayment, but now with his question, Loretta suddenly felt uneasy. In the past, the company’s spending on her had no limits; recent months, however, funds suddenly got tightly constrained, every major expense needed to be rationalized by the group’s finance before issuance, unreasonable ones were directly rejected.
Constantine Stewart had also withdrawn his supplementary card from her, now Loretta was essentially self-sufficient, having to earn money through endorsements.
"I bought it a year ago, didn’t have a place to live then so I borrowed money to buy a set to live in," Loretta’s smile was somewhat stiff.
"Hmm, have you paid it back yet?" Constantine Stewart asked knowingly, he had previously asked Vaughan to check the accounts, her annual spending was astoundingly large, Chloe Winston’s six-year expense could only count as a fraction of it, yet Loretta dared to come before him to assert presence.
Loretta turned pale, shaking her head pitifully, "Not paid back yet."
"Hmm, better pay it back soon, or the interest alone will be substantial." The man glanced at her, slowly saying, "Don’t come here if there’s nothing, avoid me, spare Chloe any misunderstandings."
Loretta’s face suddenly turned even paler, eyes shimmering with tears, she said aggrievedly, "Mr. Stewart, did I do something wrong? I just wanted to express my concern, if I’ve done wrong, please tell me, I’ll change."
Constantine Stewart’s lips curled slightly, giving her a mocking glance.
Loretta was chilled from head to toe by that glance, realizing her good days were numbered, it must be Chloe saying something in Constantine Stewart’s ear. Thinking of their years as spouses made her anxious, she said through gritted teeth, "Chloe, are you still resenting me? I was merely trying to retrieve my Jade Pendant, I didn’t know about your situation with Mr. Stewart. If you’re upset, I’ll give the Jade Pendant to you, just pretend I never appeared, alright?"
As Loretta spoke, she tugged out the emerald green Jade Pendant she had always worn, carved into a cute chubby child. She detached the pendant but didn’t hand it over to Chloe, simply stepped closer to stand by the table, red-eyed looking at Constantine Stewart.
This Jade Pendant was her last lifeline, how could she truly give it to Chloe? She only wanted to remind Constantine Stewart she was the pendant’s owner.
Chloe abruptly stood up, unwilling to watch her acting, hastily moved past the corner of the table. The man extended his long arm, gripping her slender wrist, spoke in a low voice, "I didn’t teach you to avoid issues, nor did I teach you to swallow your words when someone bullies you."
Chloe, grasped in his large hand, felt her wrist burning with heat, she coldly replied, "Loretta indeed bullied me, but her biggest reliance is you. Without you, would she be where she is today, could she bully me? Shouldn’t I be settling this score with you then?"
Constantine Stewart chuckled lowly, his phoenix eyes slightly raised, showing a pleased smile, suddenly wanting to pull her close, pamper and coax her.
"I’ll wait for you to come settle the score with me." He spoke the sentence with lingering affection.
Loretta’s face on the side turned livid, her face contorting slightly in anger, fiercely clutching the Jade Pendant, seeing them in affectionate harmony, angrily said, "Mr. Stewart, my background may not be high, but I can’t be trampled by you like this, please tell me, the origin of this Jade Pendant, what’s the relation with you? If it’s minor, I’ll never come chasing again."
Loretta couldn’t find the Jade Pendant’s origin despite searching, in her fury she decided to voice the long-buried question, to determine her next step based on the answer.
Constantine Stewart tightened his hold on Chloe’s hand, fearing she’d run off, his mood great feeling the girl’s smooth and soft hand, he intentionally aimed to resolve Loretta’s issue, coolly squinted saying, "The reason I cared for you in every way was merely my father’s sentiment, honestly, the Stewart Family and you have little connection, merely the previous generation were neighbors with good relations. Since Chloe doesn’t favor you, don’t appear before me any longer, otherwise that bit of kinship will be obliterated by you. As for your heritage, it’s not a very respectable matter, seek it out or not."
Constantine Stewart briefed the matter of the Jade Pendant in a few words, Chloe was shocked looking at him, was it really just the previous generation were neighbors? So he was bored enough to find her, then mistakenly took her in, yet pampered Loretta upon her appearance?
Does Constantine Stewart have a problem with his mind? She thought there was a grand connection between the two families.
Loretta was also stunned, she imagined many scenarios, even assumed there might be a betrothal, but just neighbors? Her heritage not respectable?
What’s the point of having this Jade Pendant? Loretta trembled with fury, if not for a bit of reason, she probably would’ve smashed the pendant.
