Chapter 1405 - 1401: The Heavier the Wounds, the Fiercer the Battle
Finnian hung up the phone, stood up to pour a glass of hot water. The man was wearing a white shirt, with one button undone on the collar, standing elegantly by the floor-to-ceiling window, rare for him not to be focused on work.
He is a man with a strong career drive and pays little attention to romantic affairs. Meeting Chloe Winston was unexpected; he didn’t mind that she had been married before. Such a beautiful girl, with such clear eyes and lovely character, even if she was divorced, it made him want to hold her in the palm of his hand and cherish her.
But he also saw that Chloe Winston probably saw him as Desmond Wood’s big brother. Well, let nature take its course, he might as well help the little sister next door.
After Constantine Stewart had his indulgent episode in the car, he returned to Fulham Fortune’s private mansion with three slash marks on his face and several bite marks on his chest.
The butler, noticing Mr. Stewart’s pristinely handsome face was damaged, hurriedly went to get the medical kit and said, "Sir, should I call Dr. Zhou for you?"
"No need." Constantine was in an excellent mood. Although he didn’t get what he wanted, holding a warm delicate body all the way had inexplicably soothed his previously violent mood. He didn’t even bother to apply any medicine and went straight upstairs to the bedroom.
The man took off his shirt and, looking at the mirror, observed the three scabbed slash marks on his face and the small bite marks on his chest. His gaze was deep, and his slender, fair fingers pressed on the sink, letting out a faint, rapid breath, and he went into the bathroom, took a cold shower, then came out wearing a bathrobe.
He still slept in the same bedroom as before; this villa was also the marital home he shared with Chloe Winston. During the divorce, although Chloe didn’t take anything with her, she packed everything up for the butler to throw away.
The items Mr. Stewart sent, each worth a fortune, the butler dared not throw away and put them all in the storage room.
Constantine felt a strange emptiness in the large bedroom with only his belongings. He went to the storage room, found the hideously ugly green kangaroo that Chloe used to hug while sleeping, and threw it onto the big black bed.
When the little girl first arrived, she was very guarded against him. Every night, she locked the door and didn’t sleep, eyes wide open. Constantine noticed her dark circles getting worse, and the teachers at school reported she was sleeping in class, so he could guess about it. He took her to the mall to pick a gift. In the end, the little girl picked this hideously furry toy.
After getting married, he had to hold the little girl to sleep every night, naturally not allowing a third party, so he threw the kangaroo away. Chloe sneaked it back, hid it, and he turned a blind eye.
Constantine rubbed his brow, suddenly realizing his memory was excellent, remembering all the little moments spent with Chloe Winston.
That night as he slept, Mr. Stewart held that hideously ugly green kangaroo in his arms, treating it as Chloe Winston in his dreams, loving and holding it closely.
Chloe Winston found Finnian’s workplace, looked at the grand office building, and hugged the documents closer to her chest before calling Finnian. After waiting for five minutes, she saw the man come out.
The scholarly man wearing glasses, good-looking, tall and slim. As the weather got warmer, he seemed to walk past with his own air conditioning, looking refreshing and asked with a smile, "Have you been waiting long?"
"I just arrived." Chloe Winston responded sweetly, handing over the documents in her hands.
"Would you like to come up for a while, have a cup of tea?" Finnian invited.
"I won’t go up; you guys are government personnel. If photographed with me, it could be troublesome." Chloe smiled. The last time Finnian came to pick her up, he had to clarify their relationship on Weibo afterward. Looking at this imposing office building, she thought it best to stay away.
Finnian glanced at her, then smiled and said, "Hmm, if you went up, it might cause quite a stir." Better to keep things low-key.
"I will apply for you, and generally, it takes about one to two weeks for the review result." Finnian said.
"Thank you, sir! Someday, I’ll treat you to dinner." Chloe playfully clasped her hands together in gratitude.
"No need to wait for someday, your variety show recording has a few more days, treat me to dinner tomorrow. I’ve always wanted to try your cooking." Finnian adjusted the gold wire glasses on his prominent nose and smiled.
Chloe was momentarily stunned. Was this a request for her to cook personally? But since he had helped her so much, cooking wasn’t too much to ask.
"Sure, come over to my house for dinner tomorrow night. It’ll just be Desmond and Sister Zhao. What cuisine do you like? I’ll buy the ingredients tomorrow morning." Chloe eagerly asked, her dark eyes shining in the sunlight, her features sweet and lovely, enough to make anyone’s heart flutter.
"I generally eat light, but Desmond likes spicy, just cook as you like." Finnian smiled. This was a date, and he had even secured an invitation to the little girl’s house.
With the dinner planned, both were satisfied, waving goodbye, one went off to apply for the girl’s house purchase, the other returned home to review recipes, preparing for the next day’s cooking.
Chloe didn’t have many friends, so she invited everyone she could, mainly the few from the variety show. Initially, she wanted to invite Lisa but considering that ever since her popularity exploded on the show, Lisa hadn’t contacted her, afraid to upset her, she decided to postpone, planning to meet her separately at the orphanage another day.
On her way back, Chloe passed by a supermarket, went inside to buy meat ingredients, and then carried them home, planning to stew an old hen that night. She also ordered some materials online, arranging for the supermarket to deliver them the next day.
As she finished her errands, she noticed the WeChat group was buzzing incessantly.
The usually silent big shot announced in the group that he was injured and would not be participating in the fourth episode of the variety show.
The group exploded.
Director Daniel was so anxious he was nearly crying, asking Constantine in detail how he got injured and whether it was serious.
Others also expressed their concern.
The man merely said blandly, "Face was injured, not in the mood."
Everyone: "You are the boss; whatever makes you happy."
Chloe instantly burst out laughing; was it possible Constantine was scratched by her? With such claw marks, anyone could tell he had been fighting with a seductress.
Chloe felt her frustration from being suppressed yesterday dissipate instantly. The fourth episode without Constantine Stewart was just perfect!
Meanwhile, after sending the WeChat, Mr. Stewart, his face still as refined as jade though darkened, looked at the mirror reflecting the seriously scabbed half of his handsome face, feeling quite displeased. Everyone had expressed concern, even the most annoying Finnian had made a comment, yet that heartless Chloe Winston acted as if she hadn’t seen anything.
A woman’s heart is truly the most venomous, Constantine snorted coldly.
"Sir, if you apply some medicine, your wounds will heal faster." The butler said softly. When the madam was around, it never got to his face, and Mr. Stewart never used medicine, so healing took longer.
Constantine didn’t respond, his gaze was deep like ink. As a man, having some scars was nothing, especially those left from intimacy. The heavier the injury, the more intense the action; naturally, they should be kept!
