Chapter 1376 - 1372: His Little Girl Must Not Come to Harm
Chloe Winston’s expression was firm, exuding an undeniable seriousness. She called for Desmond Wood, gathered all the water bottles and containers they could carry, loaded them into their backpacks, then took flashlights and a compass to quickly set off to find a water source before nightfall.
Daniel saw that he couldn’t stop them. Since they were filming a survival show, the crew couldn’t directly interfere with the guests’ actions, so he quickly instructed the accompanying cameraman to follow. Fortunately, he had a satellite phone that could connect to the live broadcast room, and he could quickly send people over if something went wrong.
Chloe Winston and Desmond Wood set off to find a water source. William Zamora, somewhat sullen, worked on setting up the camp alone, while Wendy Starling continued to gather dry branches for firewood, feeling frustrated for being a burden in such an environment. Vicky Webb quietly organized her backpack and helped Wendy gather branches. Staying at the camp was the safest choice at this time.
The production team faced the most serious problem since the start of filming. Of the eight guests, one was injured and left the recording, two went to find food, and two went to find water. Effectively, four guests and two cameramen were separated from the main group, exposed to the dangers of the jungle.
Daniel inexplicably felt uneasy, continuously praying for the ancestors to return quickly, hoping nothing would happen.
Charles Taylor followed Constantine Stewart on a hunt. Since the animals lived in places seldom visited by humans, the group of three ventured quite far, with Constantine leading and the cameraman trailing behind.
The man’s silhouette was tall and upright. After two days of filming, he showed no signs of fatigue, standing as calm as a mountain or deep sea.
"Is this live or pre-recorded?" Constantine suddenly asked.
"Pre-recorded," the cameraman reminded.
Upon hearing this, Constantine relaxed slightly, stretched his muscles, and looking at the jungle darkening with the evening sky, he said coolly, "Mr. Taylor, have you ever lived in the jungle?"
Charles Taylor paused for a moment and replied, "No."
He wasn’t a savage. Even when shooting films, he had never ventured this deep into the wild. This show was undoubtedly the most exhausting shoot since he entered the film industry.
"There are many such deep forests in the Southwest Region, and where we are now is just the outermost part. In terms of safety, it’s not that high, but since it’s a jungle, inherent dangers still exist, such as beast attacks, rampant poisonous snakes, killer bees, and even insects can be deadly." Constantine adjusted his watch, smiling with elegance and grace.
His watch was embedded with the most advanced satellite positioning system and self-developed intelligent system. Even in deep forests, he could clearly know his location and surroundings and stay connected to satellites, obtaining all the data he needed.
So handing over phones and the like wasn’t a concern for Mr. Stewart.
"Shouldn’t we hurry and find food to return, or else Chloe and the others might worry." Charles Taylor said calmly.
Constantine shrugged, smiling, handing him a bow and lazily saying, "You can only shoot rabbits and similar animals. Many wild animals are national protected species. Since we’re recording this, having political adversaries and rival factions makes it a troublesome affair."
Charles Taylor was slightly taken aback, amazed by his far-sightedness. He hadn’t even thought of that. No wonder Constantine hadn’t taken action when they encountered a wild deer. He thought Constantine simply couldn’t use a bow.
However, Charles didn’t use a bow well. He had used one during historical dramas but never to actually hunt for food.
"What, I’m giving you a chance to shine, and you don’t want it?" Constantine noticed his gloomy demeanor and mockingly laughed.
Charles Taylor: "..."
This Mr. Stewart, as he mentioned, wasn’t gentlemanly at all. On the contrary, he was quite malicious. Though Charles had seen all kinds of people, the Sutton Residence in the Imperial City wasn’t quite the top prestigious family, but he was raised in a well-off environment, growing up with a silver spoon in his mouth. Most of the Imperial City’s elite were terribly concerned with appearances, but this person was indeed beyond words.
Charles Taylor deeply felt Constantine Stewart’s hostility and malice toward him at this moment.
Seeing that it was getting late, Constantine, with a sense of mischievous delight, tried to scare the Emperor again before he was satisfied. Thankfully, they were lucky and soon found a nest of lively, plump rabbits.
Charles Taylor nervously took the bow and arrow. Before he could draw the bow, the rabbit was startled and dashed away. Just then, the man who was previously sneering let out a cold laugh, and his Swiss Army Knife flew directly, instantly killing the rabbit.
Constantine walked up, withdrew the Swiss Army Knife he borrowed from Chloe, carefully cleaned it, then tossed the rabbit to Charles Taylor and coolly said to the cameraman, "Edit out the previous scene later."
The cameraman was already dumbfounded and quickly nodded, saying, "Understood, Mr. Stewart."
Charles Taylor’s face turned pale, inexplicably feeling as if he hadn’t just lost a rabbit but something far more crucial. Indeed, Constantine Stewart was a man hidden in depth.
After catching a rabbit, they even fortuitously rounded up a nest of them. On their way back, encountering other animals, Constantine remained indifferent. The three accelerated their return and, upon arriving at the camp, saw Daniel rushing over, saying, "Thank goodness, you finally returned."
"What’s going on?" Constantine squinted, scanning the people at the camp with his deep gaze before chillingly asking, "Where’s Chloe?"
Daniel wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and said, "Chloe took Desmond, along with the accompanying cameraman, to find a water source. None of us had water to drink, and the nearest water source is over an hour away, so they...."
Constantine’s expression suddenly became extremely grim, suppressing his anger as he coldly said, "It’s over an hour to get there, and you still have them go? Couldn’t you call a helicopter from the nearest provincial city to transport water? You just let a 21-year-old girl and an unreliable Desmond roam around in the jungle?"
The production crew members, scolded, couldn’t raise their heads. None had thought of using the helicopter to transport water. After all, this helicopter was sponsored by Mr. Stewart, intended for rescue purposes, not for regular transport use, so that didn’t occur to them.
Fortunately, the remaining cameramen were filming a pre-recorded segment. Some even instinctively stopped filming, not daring to make a sound.
Throughout the duration of the filming, although this Imperial City’s Mr. Stewart had a net worth exceeding a billion, he rarely spoke, quietly participating without complaint. Everyone presumed Constantine Stewart was easy to talk to. Not until he became angry did they realize he wasn’t at all easy to communicate with—he probably just never bothered to speak to them before.
"I’ve been keeping an eye on the live broadcast; they’re fine. I’ll have someone go look for them now." Daniel, chastised and ignoring his loss of face, realized he had been sticking too rigidly to the rules. Those two guests were worth their weight in gold, and although it was a survival-type program meant to allow guests to freely perform, he erred by not sending more people along.
"Give me the phone; I’ll take the guide to find them." Constantine said heavily, taking Daniel’s phone. Seeing the girl safe and sound in the live broadcast room, watching her and Desmond discover a birch forest with a look of surprise, his restless heart suddenly calmed. It was as if someone had touched the softest part inside him, warming and subtly aching him.
Constantine Stewart didn’t feel he scolded wrongly just now. Survival shows inherently carried a certain level of risk, but others could manage mishaps—his girl, absolutely not.
