Chapter 1462 - 1452: No One Knows Who the Owner of the Jade Pendant Is Yet
The Jade Pendant had a crack down the middle from being dropped, the adorable chubby cherub appearing as if it might split apart.
Chloe Winston gently touched the pendant’s pattern with some heartbreak, knowing that this kind of damage would be hard to repair. She had worn this pendant for over a decade and had grown attached to it. After Roy Yi took it a year ago, she had felt a lingering emptiness around her neck, as if she had lost something important.
Seeing it now lying in the corner, she knew it wasn’t accidentally lost by Roy Yi. Clearly, she realized this pendant couldn’t sway Constantine Stewart and angrily shattered it. How could this woman be so ruthless?
Chloe furrowed her brow slightly and carefully put the pendant into her pocket. If Roy Yi didn’t want it, she did.
After Chloe secured the Jade Pendant, she turned around to see Constantine Stewart standing behind her. The man had arms like an ape and a waist like a bee, moving without a sound. She was momentarily startled.
"So timid?" Constantine Stewart spoke calmly. When he came up, he saw Chloe shut the door, so he refrained from knocking, not wanting to sour her mood on her first day here. The man brought a bottle of wine to the open-air balcony on the second floor, dragging a table and chair to the hallway. He watched the night while sipping wine and kept an eye on Chloe’s room door, passing the long night.
Later, he saw her come downstairs in slippers, her slender frame cloaked in warmth by the dim hallway lights. As if enchanted, he put down his wine glass and followed her downstairs in time to see her pick up Roy Yi’s pendant and pocket it.
"Do you like that pendant?" Constantine Stewart asked with curiosity, catching the subtle fragrance of her hair. Just watching her warmed his heart, dissipating much of his previous frustration.
"It’s been worn for over ten years and become a habit. Since Roy Yi doesn’t want it anymore, I’ll keep it." Chloe’s face was a bit flushed. After all, it wasn’t hers; even though she picked it up, it was still Roy Yi’s, and she felt somewhat guilty.
Hearing this, Constantine Stewart became contemplative. As he watched Chloe go to make coffee, he moved to a nearby window and called Zhen Gu.
"Look into Chloe Winston and Roy Yi’s childhood, and find out whose pendant it really is." After giving instructions, the man hung up the phone.
Before his father passed away, he always reminisced about his childhood in the Imperial City. At that time, he was young, and his father’s words stuck in his mind. Eventually, he grew tired of living in Paris and wanted a place to settle down, naturally thinking of his father’s cherished hometown. So he returned, only to find those childhood companions no longer existed. After some investigation, he discovered some astonishing truths.
Constantine Stewart discreetly stopped talking about it, casually instructing others to find the descendants from back then. Initially, he didn’t hope to find anyone, but unexpectedly he did. That young girl had grown into a 15-year-old with eyes like stars in the sky, so intelligent and vivacious. Suddenly, he thought it might be good to keep her close.
The pendant didn’t hold much personal significance for him, so he hadn’t seriously looked into it over the years. At first, Roy Yi claimed the pendant was hers, and Chloe acknowledged this too, so Constantine Stewart didn’t doubt it and was even lazy to investigate, thinking to honor his father’s wishes to take special care of Roy Yi. Yet, unexpectedly, Roy Yi proved ungrateful, and now Constantine Stewart suspected the pendant might not belong to her at all.
The only thing that could represent one’s heritage, smashed without checking one’s lineage? Haha, Roy Yi was even more carefree than him.
Chloe finished making coffee and was about to head upstairs when the man spoke, his voice deep: "Go to the open-air balcony on the second floor. With the weather cooler now, it’s more comfortable than being cooped up in the room. After you left, no one tended to the balcony."
Chloe paused briefly. Her favorite place before was the open-air balcony on the second floor. Staying in her room, Constantine Stewart would pursue her endlessly. This villa had an European architectural style, spacious yet secluded. Wandering around the room too much made her afraid, but she especially liked the open-air balcony on the second floor with its tranquil environment and excellent view. Moreover, there were few residents around, providing privacy.
Chloe carried her coffee upstairs, clutching a pile of scripts, heading to the balcony. She decided she would have to deal with the situation for the next five months and couldn’t escape it. Better to live plainly, like gaining a roommate, so she’d be more at ease.
She turned on the balcony wall lamp, then noticed Constantine Stewart’s half-finished bottle of red wine and the casually placed wine bottle on the ground.
Chloe twitched her lips slightly, holding her scripts as she went to a nearby tatami mat and started reviewing them.
Constantine Stewart brought a business laptop over, not disturbing her as he sat on a lounge chair, sipping wine while tapping away on the keyboard.
The fragrance of the red wine gradually dispersed into the air, blending with the sweet osmanthus aroma from the street, creating a charming scent. After finishing one glass of wine, the man restrained himself from drinking more, worried about drunkenly going crazy and bringing Chloe back to the room.
Things felt perfect now; she was home. As long as he lifted his eyes, he could see her figure, her scent permeated the house, and his heart was indescribably content, unwilling to damage this beauty.
Early the next morning, Xiao Qiu arrived to pick Chloe Winston up to go to the set. The driver had some doubts when following the address here; this area didn’t look cheap. How come Sister Wen suddenly changed her residence?
When the nanny car turned into Fulham Road and stopped in front of a lavishly decorated ancient European-style building, the assistant’s mouth gaped open, eyes wide. Was Sister Wen experiencing a windfall?
"Sis, is the address you gave wrong or did I find the wrong place? We arrived at an exceptionally vintage, beautifully styled European villa." The assistant quickly called Chloe, speaking timidly.
"Maybe you found the wrong place." Chloe responded with a smile and decisively hung up, picked up the packaged breakfast from the table, and smiled at the housekeeper, saying, "Housekeeper, I’m off to the set now."
"Alright, Miss Wen, take it slow. There’s still a box of fruit you haven’t taken." The housekeeper hurried to get the washed fruit box from the table, catching sight of Mr. Ji coming downstairs, instinctively handing it to Constantine Stewart.
Chloe waved it off, not taking it. Anything they needed on set could be bought.
Xiao Qiu stood there dumbfounded, witnessing the radiant Sister Wen emerge from the villa, handing her a refined breakfast box, and then glimpsed the refined, handsome man following behind. She was instantly startled enough to hiccup.
The man placed the fruits atop her breakfast box, his almond eyes flickering with a hint of chill. He spoke in a deep, unmistakable tone: "Follow A-Chu for 24 hours, report anything to me, understand?"
The tone allowed no refusal.
Xiao Qiu instinctively nodded, her head bobbing like a pecking chicken, then awkwardly escaped into the car with mismatched steps.
Was Sister Wen cohabiting with Constantine Stewart? Wow, she must not be awake!
