Chapter 362: Kill Him [2]
"Brother... how about giving a solution as well. My heart might just burst at the moment."
As Remzi had gone silent for a while after his last statement, Arnold couldn’t help but speak for himself.
"As I said, there is indeed a way for you in all this chaos, but it depends on how far you are willing to go."
Shifting his focus away from the window, Remzi turned around before focusing his attention on Arnold, who stood motionless at the same spot.
Observing Arnold at the given moment, the guy looked pitiful in the truest sense.
"At first you would have to publicly distance yourself from your house, and then—"
"Why the fuck should I do that?!"
Arnold’s pitiful state didn’t last long, as the wild beast in him was awakened once again.
"..."
Remzi simply looked at the guy with pure indifference in his eyes, and Arnold, feeling those emotionless eyes gazing at him, controlled his anger while clearing his throat at the same time.
"I will publicly leave the house and then what—"
"Kill him."
"..."
The silence stretched between the two, as Arnold used all of his intelligence to interpret Remzi’s words.
Surely the guy would have meant something else—
"You will have to kill Matthew Pierre and enact your revenge for being falsely accused."
Arnold stood motionless as he observed Remzi with narrowed eyes.
"You sure aren’t sick or anything?"
Arnold’s question, which was asked in the most innocent voice out there, made Remzi chuckle as he shook his head in return.
"Listen to the entire plan, will you?"
Remzi walked back towards the sofa before making himself comfortable on it.
"After you kill Matthew, the world would believe it as a form of revenge on your part for the person in question being the one to put the blame for the attacks on you. The authorities would be sure to tell the world about the reason for one of their best being killed in cold blood so as to cement their determination in being the enforcers of justice who had managed to uncover one of the cults’ spies planted in the Levaith Duchy."
Remzi lifted the cup of coffee that had now grown a bit cold after being left in the open for too long.
But Remzi wasn’t one to care for it as he drank the entire thing in a single gulp before shifting his focus to Arnold, who was now sitting like an obedient student.
"Most of the world would believe it and rejoice upon hearing the news that one of the criminals behind the slaughter across the world was finally discovered by a brave officer from the authorities who laid his life down for the good of the people... for the greater cause and all those heroic things that they say—"
"But wouldn’t that mean the world would be against me, and everyone would be out there to take my head?"
"..."
"I mean... I would be doing everything to save myself from my brother’s wrath and you are telling me to become the target of the entire world as well."
Arnold clarified himself, seeing Remzi’s expression, which was clear enough to show his disappointment at being interrupted.
"If the entire world is against you, then the cults would believe in your revenge as well. You just have to hide from the authorities after killing Matthew, and the cults would find you on their own. After all, even a fool knows that an enemy’s enemy is a friend."
Remzi’s voice was indifferent the entire time, which wasn’t a new thing for Arnold.
For most of the time, Remzi would talk in his usual playful and non-serious manner, but—
When the time came for his brain to express itself... Remzi would become a totally different person.
His eyes would turn emotionless and so would his voice, which would become one of complete indifference.
"You just have to win over the trust of those cults and become a sort of spy for me."
"..."
This time Arnold couldn’t help but raise his brows in suspicion.
"Are you trying to use me?"
"No."
Remzi’s reply was immediate, amplifying Arnold’s suspicion.
"Do you really think that the cults were behind the attacks against Syma?"
The question made Arnold straighten his back as he thought it over.
"They weren’t?"
Arnold wasn’t the best person at using his brain, so his question wasn’t unexpected either.
"There is a mastermind behind all the illusions that the world is being shown in the present. The cults... they are just a sort of cannon fodder for him—"
"What? Is that for real?! And I thought the people in the cults were all crazy. Since when did they start taking orders from someone else? Also, the one who had made the big announcement across the world, the representative of the cults... he was some high-level cultivator, wasn’t he? A Demigod of sorts, maybe. How did the mastermind even control someone like him?!"
Remzi couldn’t help but let out a defeated sigh.
Even kids were better listeners than Arnold, whose questions didn’t seem to end anytime soon.
"I am not omniscient, so there’s no way I would know how the mastermind had done everything. But there’s one thing I can say for sure... a far bigger game is being played behind the curtains, and well... the interesting part is that the world is already being played in the game, with many not even knowing about their participation in it."
Remzi smiled darkly as he uttered the words.
He had long suspected something brewing in the shadows of the empire, but little did he know that the calamity had been festering in the darkness across the entire world.
Since when?
Remzi wasn’t sure yet, but seeing the trends in the Veltran Empire, he could say that the mastermind had begun his game merely some years ago.
Being able to influence the outlaws of the world into becoming his pawns, and that too within such a short period of time—
The thought was a terrifying one, but it made Remzi all the more excited to uncover the person behind the mask, hiding in the deepest corners of the darkest shadows. The Mastermind... whoever they were, had managed to bet and win whatever gamble they had played.
