Chapter 50: What ’Hm’?
After she finished speaking, Sophie Wexler put away her Light Brain and looked at Cillian Forrest again, studying him carefully for a moment. "Are you sure you’re okay?"
He’d just denied it, but he didn’t look well at all. His brows had been knitted tightly ever since he walked in.
"I’m fine," Cillian Forrest confirmed again.
Sophie Wexler couldn’t press the issue. "If you start to feel unwell, just tell me. I should be able to help ease the discomfort."
When Cillian Forrest didn’t answer, she noticed the muscles in his face were taut.
"Should I leave, then?" Sophie Wexler asked tentatively.
Cillian Forrest grunted.
Sophie Wexler lifted her gaze to study him for a moment longer, finally sighing inwardly with resignation.
She stopped, just as she was about to leave. Pivoting, she caught him off guard and grabbed Cillian Forrest’s hand.
"What do you mean, ’mhm’?! Don’t you know enough to say something when you’re unwell?"
Ignoring the astonishment on his face, she forcefully pulled him to a nearby seat and, without waiting for permission, released her own spiritual power.
The instant her spiritual power touched Cillian Forrest’s Spiritual Sea, she felt its violent turmoil. A rampaging spiritual power was ravaging it, crashing wildly through its depths.
Feeling the muscles beneath her hand clench, Sophie Wexler knew he was enduring it, desperately suppressing the rampaging forces and trying to calm them.
’She could help him, but he just wouldn’t ask. He had to bear it all himself.’
’The way he was fighting it... did he have a death wish or something?’
’He might manage to suppress the rampaging spiritual power this time, but the damage to his Spiritual Sea would be immense.’
’She had exhausted a lot of her spiritual power yesterday, but the Crystal Stones had already helped her recover most of it. It wasn’t as if she couldn’t help him at all.’
This wasn’t the first time she had soothed him, so Sophie Wexler was already familiar with the path. She entered the outer regions of Cillian Forrest’s Spiritual Sea.
Just like before, she felt the pressure of his High-level Spiritual Power as she entered. Bit by bit, Sophie Wexler slowly released her own.
The spiritual power of a Healer-class was exceptionally gentle. The instant it made contact, the rampaging forces immediately subsided, no longer crashing about as they had been.
"Do you always try to shoulder everything yourself? You know you can have someone soothe this for you..."
Sophie Wexler said as she worked, "Isn’t that exhausting?"
Cillian Forrest could feel it. As Sophie Wexler’s spiritual power flowed into him, the violent energy in the outer regions of his Spiritual Sea began to calm.
He lowered his gaze to the woman before him, a profound expression flashing in the depths of his eyes.
The woman before him was still talking, telling him to take better care of himself, to find her whenever his spiritual power ran wild, to not shoulder the burden alone.
The voice chirped in his ear like a little bird, but surprisingly, he didn’t find it noisy at all.
Gradually, she fell silent, concentrating on her work. The deeper she went, the stronger the resistance she met.
Sophie Wexler felt the immense pressure of Cillian Forrest’s spiritual power.
’She assessed her own strength. If she kept going, it would be a huge strain to face Cillian Forrest’s High-level Spiritual Power. But... if she could just go a little deeper, wouldn’t his Spiritual Sea become more stable?’
After weighing her options, Sophie Wexler made her decision. But just as she resolved to grit her teeth and push forward, she suddenly felt Cillian Forrest’s spiritual power push back.
Sophie Wexler looked up instinctively. "Why are you resisting me?"
"That’s enough," Cillian Forrest said. "Just stop here."
’Does she not realize how unwell she looks right now?’
"Withdraw your spiritual power."
