Chapter 34: The Livestreamer Turns Out To Be Miss Wexler
No one in the room spoke. In front of them was a virtual screen projected by a Light Brain, and beside it sat a device for measuring spiritual power rampage values, connected to a testing wristband.
At that moment, a man was sitting in a chair as the song from the livestream trickled into everyone’s ears.
All eyes were focused on the device. Everyone was subconsciously breathing more quietly. The line on the display fluctuated continuously, representing the value of the rampaging spiritual power.
As the song continued, the value displayed by the line on the monitor kept fluctuating. Then, under everyone’s watchful eyes, the rampage value—a number that should have been steadily climbing—miraculously froze before beginning to slowly descend.
The fluctuating line only stopped its descent and stabilized after dropping by five percentage points.
The moment that final number appeared, the pupils of everyone present dilated instantly!
Hearts began to pound. The man turned to Ethan Cross, his voice filled with irrepressible excitement. "Major General, the rampage value dropped!"
Ethan Cross stared at the number, frozen in place.
’Singing alone could actually soothe a Spiritual Sea’s rampage!’
And they weren’t the only ones listening to her livestream; hundreds of thousands of others were in the channel as well.
It wasn’t just their spiritual power rampage values that were dropping—it was happening to the hundreds of thousands of people in the livestream chat, too!
’In other words, her song doesn’t just soothe... it’s a mass-soothing effect!’
A jolt of realization shot through Ethan Cross!
He immediately opened a communication channel to Cillian Forrest. "Marshal! I have something to report."
Cillian Forrest was sitting at his desk with his Light Brain in front of him. After accepting the call, he flicked a finger to mute the audio playing from the device.
He looked at the projection from the communicator and nodded. "Go on."
Ethan Cross’s expression turned serious. "Marshal, I’ve discovered a livestream channel."
Fearing the Marshal would think he was slacking off, he quickly added, "This channel isn’t like the others!"
Cillian Forrest glanced at the livestream currently open on his own Light Brain and asked calmly, "How so?"
"It’s a singing channel. I’ve run tests, and the streamer’s songs can actually soothe a Spiritual Sea’s rampage—and it’s a mass-soothing effect!"
Soothing was critically important for anyone whose spiritual power was on the verge of rampaging. Healer-class individuals were incredibly rare, and very few people ever had access to their services. Most had to rely on treatment centers.
But the effects at treatment centers couldn’t compare to a true Healer-class, and patients still had to endure the agony of being scoured by their own rampaging spiritual power.
It was a problem that nearly every citizen in The Empire had to face.
But now, a streamer had appeared who could provide a mass-soothing effect with nothing more than her singing!
As if afraid Cillian Forrest wouldn’t believe him, Ethan Cross meticulously reported all the data he had just collected.
Cillian Forrest listened to the long string of precise figures and nodded. "Yes, I’m aware."
Seeing Cillian Forrest’s reaction, Ethan Cross was puzzled. ’?’
’Isn’t this a huge deal? Why does the Marshal look so calm? He’s not shocked at all. That can’t be right.’
"Marshal, are you...?"
Before Ethan Cross could finish, Cillian Forrest shifted the communicator to the side, revealing his screen. "This one."
"Yes!" Ethan Cross grew excited as he looked at the livestream channel. ’That’s the one I was just watching!’
’No wonder the Marshal wasn’t surprised. He found out about it before I did.’
However...
"Marshal, why would you be..."
"Watching a livestream?" Cillian Forrest finished for him, his voice flat.
’That’s right. The Marshal never watched things like this. He wouldn’t just not watch; he wouldn’t even give it a second thought. So seeing Cillian Forrest with a livestream page open was utterly shocking.’
"Because of Sophie Wexler."
"Miss Wexler?" Ethan Cross recognized the familiar name. "Does Miss Wexler watch livestreams, too?"
"She *is* Sophie Wexler," Cillian Forrest said, his eyes on the livestream displayed on his Light Brain.
Ethan Cross said, "Oh."
Two seconds later, Ethan Cross yelped, "Huh?!"
Realizing what Cillian Forrest had just said, his eyes flew wide in disbelief. "That’s... Miss Wexler?!"
Cillian Forrest didn’t say a word, but his expression said it all.
Ethan Cross could never have imagined that the person behind the stream was Miss Wexler.
Ever since he’d learned Miss Wexler was the one who had saved the Marshal, he had made a point of looking into her. Miss Wexler’s reputation on StarNet was terrible, a complete contrast to the person he had actually met.
He’d even started to think that the people on StarNet must have some sort of misunderstanding about her reputation.
But as for Miss Wexler’s singing on StarNet... it truly left one speechless.
That was why, when the Little Prince had told him about this channel, the thought of it being Miss Wexler had never even crossed his mind. He’d thought it was impossible.
But now!
Ethan Cross stood stunned for a long while before he could finally process the information.
"Her singing’s soothing ability increases as her Level does," Cillian Forrest said, dropping another bombshell.
That was also why people in the livestream were saying her singing was different from the last time.
After absorbing the energy from the Crystal Stone last time, her Spiritual Sea had expanded, and her spiritual power had risen with it.
So, the difference they were feeling was because Sophie Wexler’s soothing ability had grown stronger.
Ethan Cross: "!"
Ethan Cross was utterly flabbergasted. He never would have imagined such a thing was possible.
’Doesn’t that mean that as long as Miss Wexler’s Level gets high enough, everyone in The Empire could listen to her songs to soothe their spiritual power rampages!’
"Does Miss Wexler know?"
"She didn’t before. But now," Cillian Forrest said, glancing at the livestream on his Light Brain, "she’s about to."
In the livestream, the entire screen was flooded with comments discussing this very issue.
Unlike last time, with Sophie Wexler’s song going viral, the number of viewers in her channel had skyrocketed. It was on a completely different scale than before.
Previously, only a few scattered people had raised the question, which had even gotten Sophie Wexler’s channel banned once. But this time...
The comments were all filled with questions.
[Can the streamer’s songs really soothe a Spiritual Sea’s rampage?]
[There’s never been a case like this before.]
[Fake, fake. This was already debunked last time. Why is she still using this gimmick for marketing? It’s disgusting.]
[This streamer must be desperate for fame. I’ll admit your song is good, but using something like soothing rampages to get attention? Red flag, major red flag. I’m never watching your stream again. Disgusting!]
Once a crowd grew large enough, all kinds of comments would appear. Supporters, doubters, detractors, and defenders all clashed in a chaotic mess.
A staff member for the platform watched the warzone in the chat and asked anxiously, "What do we do, Supervisor?"
