Chapter 137: Signing the Marriage Agreement
Having cleared it a few times before, Sophie Wexler was now quite proficient with the entire process.
She wasn’t sure if it was because her own Level had increased or because Cillian Forrest’s Spiritual Sea wasn’t rejecting her this time.
Sophie Wexler entered his Spiritual Sea with exceptional ease, reaching an even wider area than before.
Sophie Wexler said in surprise, "I can reach the inner perimeter of your Spiritual Sea!"
Although she was still some distance from the core, it was a huge improvement compared to before.
As Sophie Wexler spoke, her eyes curved into happy crescents.
Cillian Forrest lowered his gaze to watch her cheerful expression, a hint of a smile touching his eyes. He praised her, "Well done."
Sophie Wexler lifted her chin with a touch of playful pride. "But of course. You should see who you’re dealing with."
"You wouldn’t let me help you with the treatment before. I bet you regret it now, don’t you?" The girl’s voice was teasing and playful.
Cillian Forrest played along. "Yes, Miss Wexler, I regret it. So please, help me with the treatment more often in the future."
Sophie Wexler let out a giggle. "Of course, of course."
Their conversation made the time spent on the treatment and cleansing fly by. Just as Sophie Wexler finished clearing a pocket of toxins wrapped in her spiritual power and was about to move on to the next, she felt a gentle squeeze on her fingertips.
Sophie Wexler looked up. "???"
The man’s eyes were fixed on her, faint golden light swirling in their depths. "Alright, that’s enough for today."
"I still have energy to spare," Sophie Wexler explained.
Cillian Forrest replied, "You’re almost at your limit."
Cillian Forrest was referring to Sophie Wexler’s spiritual power. She hadn’t hit her absolute limit, but she was close.
The toxins had been in his Spiritual Sea for a long time; they couldn’t be cleared out completely overnight.
"We have plenty of time ahead of us, don’t we?" Cillian Forrest asked, looking at her.
Sophie Wexler thought for a moment. ’He has a point.’
"Alright then." She began to withdraw her spiritual power.
The very next second, as she was retracting it, Cillian Forrest’s spiritual power entwined with hers.
This wasn’t the first time this had happened. Sophie Wexler said with a sigh, "Cillian Forrest, make your spiritual power let go of mine."
Cillian Forrest felt the change as well. As their spiritual power flowed between them, the degree to which they merged grew deeper and deeper.
He felt the two powers constantly flowing, colliding, and merging. His Adam’s apple bobbed once before he finally controlled his spiritual power and made it let go.
She hadn’t noticed time passing during the treatment. Only after they finished did she realize how late it was. Sophie Wexler let out a small yawn. "I’m so sleepy."
"I’m heading to bed. You should get some sleep too. Good night."
"Good night."
The next few days passed in much the same way.
Sometimes she wouldn’t see Cillian Forrest during the day, having no idea what he was busy with. There were even times he was so busy he didn’t come home, but he would always send her a message in advance to let her know.
Their days of living together flew by, and in the blink of an eye, half a month had passed.
It was time for the matched couple to sign the marriage agreement.
As it happened, Sophie Wexler had completely forgotten about it.
Early one morning, a noise from outside roused Sophie Wexler from her sleep. Bleary-eyed, she got out of bed, pushed open her door, and saw Cillian Forrest in the living room. "Morning, Cillian Forrest."
Cillian Forrest hadn’t expected to wake her. He froze for a moment, and in the next second, the cold aura around him instantly softened. "Did I wake you?"
Sophie Wexler yawned. "No, I went to bed early last night. It was about time for me to wake up anyway."
"By the way, when did you get back last night?"
Cillian Forrest had seemed so busy lately; she hadn’t even heard him come in last night.
Her eyes then fell on what Cillian Forrest was wearing. "Are you going out again today?" she asked, recalling how he’d been leaving early and coming home late for the past several days.
Cillian Forrest paused for a second before giving a soft hum of agreement. "Yes, I have to go out."
"Oh," Sophie Wexler said, her eyes still half-closed. "Then don’t worry about making me breakfast. I’ll make it myself. You should go take care of your business."
For the past few days, Cillian Forrest must have been on a cooking spree. Every morning when she got up, she would find a prepared breakfast on the table.
Cillian Forrest had claimed he was just practicing his cooking skills.
And to be fair, it really did seem to be getting more delicious by the day.
’But he can’t be the one to cook every day, not when he’s so busy.’
Cillian Forrest smiled at that. "I’m not leaving just yet."
Sophie Wexler: "???"
Her eyes opened wider as she looked at him in confusion. "Didn’t you say you had something to do today?"
"I do."
"But it’s something I can’t take care of by myself."
Sophie Wexler: "???"
Cillian Forrest walked over to stand in front of Sophie Wexler, his gaze lowered to meet hers. "Miss Wexler, have you perhaps forgotten what today is?"
Sophie Wexler looked completely blank. She mentally scrambled, trying to remember. ’What’s so special about today?’
"The marriage agreement." The three words came slowly from the man’s lips.
Sophie Wexler jolted, the realization hitting her in a sudden flash: today was the day they were supposed to sign the marriage agreement.
Their half-month adjustment period was over. Today, they had to go to The Healer-class Association to sign the marriage agreement.
Sophie Wexler blinked slowly, seeing Cillian Forrest watching her with an amused smile.
’So that’s why he’d said he couldn’t handle today’s business by himself. Of course he couldn’t. The other party involved was me!’
Sophie Wexler was still a bit dazed. "Do I need to bring anything?"
"You do."
"What?" Sophie Wexler asked immediately, looking ready to go pack whatever it was that very instant.
"You." Cillian Forrest said, "Just bring yourself."
Sophie Wexler: "..."
Sophie Wexler froze, then lifted her head to glare at the man before her. She seriously suspected he was messing with her.
"Wait here, I need to change." With that, Sophie Wexler gave the man standing in her way a little push, then pulled her bedroom door shut.
Cillian Forrest looked at the closed door and let out a soft chuckle. ’She probably hasn’t even realized,’ he thought, ’that she’s already claimed that bedroom as her own territory.’
Sophie Wexler quickly washed up and changed. Cillian Forrest sat in the living room, watching her hurry in and out of her room.
"Alright," Sophie Wexler finally announced, standing before him. "Is this outfit okay?"
"It’s beautiful," Cillian Forrest praised sincerely.
"You’ve got good taste." Sophie Wexler’s eyes curved into crescents. It was worth all the effort she’d put into picking it out.
Once she was ready, the two of them ate breakfast and boarded the flyer.
Yes, they ate breakfast—a breakfast Cillian Forrest had prepared while Sophie Wexler was getting ready.
Sitting in the flyer, Sophie Wexler patted her stomach. "This is all your fault. You didn’t remind me, so I ate too much."
Cillian Forrest smiled. "Yes, my fault."
