Half an hour later, Renee Jennings and the others arrived at the Yves residence.

"Hello, Officers." Mrs. Yves greeted them, then her confused gaze fell upon Renee Jennings and Sheryl Sawyer. "And these two are...?"

"This is Consultant Jennings and Officer Sawyer from the Criminal Investigation Division," Luna York explained. "We’d like to understand the details of the situation a little better."

"Understand more? Weren’t all your questions answered the other day?" Mrs. Yves asked in astonishment.

Just as Luna York was about to speak, Mrs. Yves cut in again, fuming, "That scumbag is the one who bullied my Roxy! He’s left her completely traumatized! I don’t even know if this will affect her studies!"

"You have no idea how much I regret this. I just wanted to find a good tutor for Roxy, but I never imagined I’d pick a demon to be by her side!"

"If anything happens to Roxy because of this, I’ll never forgive myself!" Mrs. Yves vented, her face flushing red with anger.

"Mrs. Yves, we completely understand how you feel as a mother..." Luna York said, trying to soothe her.

Mrs. Yves took a sip of water to compose herself, then said, "By the way, Officers, are you here to see Roxy? She’s not home. I was worried she’d just brood if she stayed here alone, so I had someone take her out for a walk."

"It’s all right that Roxy isn’t home," Luna York explained. "When we responded to the call the day before yesterday, I noticed there were Sugar Gliders in her room."

"Sugar Gliders?" It dawned on Mrs. Yves, and she nodded. "Yes, Roxy keeps them. She’s a kind-hearted child who loves small animals. Since she’s our only daughter, we tend to spoil her. If she wanted to keep them, we let her."

"I see." Luna York smiled and continued, "Our Consultant Jennings here is a specialist on special retainer with the Zenvia Police Department."

Mrs. Yves glanced at Renee Jennings and remarked, almost to herself, "So young. That is... special."

Luna York’s brow furrowed, and her voice became grave. "Rory Yves’s case has no physical evidence to support it. The conflicting statements alone aren’t enough. The department has specifically brought in Consultant Jennings to help us uncover the truth."

Mrs. Yves understood now, and she wasn’t happy. "Isn’t the truth already obvious? Clarence Sawyer has no professional ethics! He saw that my Roxy was young and impressionable and got vicious ideas..."

Luna York ignored her outburst and simply said, "Mrs. Yves, would you please bring Rory Yves’s Sugar Gliders here?"

"Hold on, what does investigating Roxy’s case have to do with those two rodents?" Mrs. Yves asked, completely baffled.

Luna York gave a slight smile. "We can explain in a moment. Could you please just bring the Sugar Gliders over first?"

"Fine." Mrs. Yves stood up, muttering, "How bizarre."

She pushed open Rory Yves’s bedroom door, went inside, and quickly returned carrying a small cage. Inside were two Sugar Gliders.

Perhaps sensing the presence of strangers, the two tiny Sugar Gliders began to squeak nervously.

Renee Jennings took the cage from Mrs. Yves, leaned in toward the two little creatures, and greeted them softly, "Hello, my cute little Sugar Glider friends."

The sound of her voice instantly soothed the Sugar Gliders’ anxiety.

"Koo? Is that the scent of a nice human?"

"Koo koo~ I like~ I like this human~"

The two Sugar Gliders scrambled toward Renee Jennings, trying to poke their heads through the gaps in the cage to get closer to her.

But they failed.

"Koo? Are you saying we’re cute?"

"Chirp? Do you want to be friends with us?"

Renee Jennings beamed. "Yes, you’re very cute. Can I be your friend?"

Mrs. Yves watched her talking to the two Sugar Gliders, completely dumbfounded.

’Wait, is she crazy? What kind of wacko consultant did the police department hire?’

The two Sugar Gliders bobbed their little heads vigorously, more than happy to be her friend.

Renee Jennings asked, "What are your names?"

"Koo~ My name is Six."

"Chirp~ My name is Number Three."

Renee Jennings smiled. "Six and Number Three. Such interesting names."

At these words, Mrs. Yves, who had just been mocking her internally, froze again.

This time, she was stunned. How did Renee Jennings know the Sugar Gliders’ names? ’I’m sure I never mentioned them,’ she thought.

Renee Jennings continued, "Six, Number Three, is your owner’s name Roxy?"

Six: "Koo~ Yeth."

Number Three: "Chirp? Are you Roxy’s friend?"

"Oh, I’m not her friend," Renee Jennings said with a soft chuckle. "I’m *your* friend."

Six and Number Three instantly began to squeal with excitement, running in circles inside their cage.

"I have a few more questions. Can you help me with them?"

"Koo! Of course!"

"Chirp! No problem!"

The smile on Renee Jennings’s lips deepened as she asked slowly, "Is Roxy usually nice to you two?"

Mrs. Yves frowned at Luna York. "Officer, what is this? Why is she asking these questions?"

Luna York’s tone was serious. "Consultant Jennings is an animal specialist. She can communicate with them. She has already helped the police crack several difficult cases."

Mrs. Yves was skeptical.

Six: "Koo koo koo! Sometimes she’s good, but sometimes she’s very bad! She almost squeezed Number Three to death once!"

Number Three: "Chirp! Yeth! It was so scary!"

"Number Three was almost squeezed to death?" Renee Jennings’s brow furrowed. "Why?" she asked, puzzled.

Six: "Koo koo koo! Roxy confessed to her tutor, but he rejected her. She got really angry and took it out on Number Three!"

Number Three: "Chirp... *whimper*..."

"Her tutor?" Renee Jennings’s bright eyes narrowed. "Have you two seen him before?"

Six: "Koo koo koo! Yes, we’ve seen him! He’s the tutor who comes to the house for Roxy’s lessons. I heard Roxy call him Brother Ethan!"

Renee Jennings: "Are you two usually in the room when this tutor is teaching Roxy? Did you see what happened between them the day before yesterday?"

Hearing this, Mrs. Yves found the whole situation absurd. "What could those two rodents possibly know? How can you question them? I’m the witness here. You should be asking me."

"Mrs. Yves, please remain calm," Luna York said coolly. "We have investigative procedures. We don’t just take people at their word. Please try to understand."

"But still, this is just too ridiculous..." Mrs. Yves grumbled from the sidelines.

Renee Jennings had already learned everything she needed to from the Sugar Gliders.

She turned to Luna York and said softly, "I understand everything now. Let’s bring Rory Yves in for questioning again."

Luna York’s eyes were clear as she nodded solemnly. "Understood."

Mrs. Yves’s face was a mask of confusion. "What do you mean? What could you possibly learn from two rodents? Why do you need to bring Roxy in for questioning again? Explain yourselves!"

"Mrs. Yves, we will explain everything in detail at the station," Renee Jennings said, then looked back at the cage. "I’ll need to take these two little ones with me."

’They provided true and reliable information. Their lives might be in danger if I leave them here.’
