Chapter 1619 - 652: Charles’s "Gift
"So mysterious... what exactly is the gift?"
Upon hearing Charles’ words, Zhou Wang straightened his back, rubbed his eyebrows, and asked.
His alcohol tolerance wasn’t bad, but he wasn’t as sober as he appeared. Probably because he mostly drank champagne, with its 12% alcohol content, which was far more intoxicating than its light taste suggested. Zhou Wang unknowingly drank quite a bit.
Another reason was that while the trip to Korea had seemed pleasant overall, being in a foreign land kept Zhou Wang slightly tense. Now that everything was settled, he relaxed and was more prone to getting drunk.
I feel like every time I get drunk, something unusual happens.
Hmm, usually involving women...
Zhou Wang mocked himself internally.
Just then, with a "ding," the elevator arrived on one of the high floors of the Shilla Hotel.
"The ’gift’ is in your pocket now."
Charles chuckled, pushed Zhou Wang out of the elevator, then waved at him as the elevator doors closed, hiding his playful expression behind them.
Zhou Wang found it amusing and had a premonition.
After all, Charles had earlier sent Xu Wenqian and Sura away and volunteered to escort Zhou Wang up for a rest, deliberately avoiding the two girls, which indicated something unusual was up.
Zhou Wang looked around. The soft, thick carpet stretched to the end of the corridor, connecting one guest room after another...
He realized this wasn’t the floor where his Shilla Suite was located. Feeling a bit confused, he then remembered something and reached into his pocket.
He first pulled out a crumpled gift box; the ribbon had been squeezed and crumpled into a mess. As Zhou Wang shook it, the ribbon slid to the carpet.
"Is this... the gift box Han Suying gave me?"
Zhou Wang recalled its origin; it was a gift from Han Suying as an apology, but... where’s the item inside the box?
Zhou Wang stared at the damaged gift box, momentarily confused.
He realized it might have broken during dancing or other movements, and couldn’t help but shake his head.
Director Han, it’s not that I don’t want to forgive you, but look, it’s fate... the apology gift you gave me is gone, and I didn’t even see what it looked like.
Carelessly tossing the gift box aside, Zhou Wang continued rummaging in his pocket.
When Zhou Wang pulled his hand out, he looked at the item in his hand and was once again bewildered.
In the palm of his hand lay two room cards.
Both room cards had the "Shilla Hotel" logo, with one labeled "1709" and the other "1722." Zhou Wang looked back and confirmed he was on the 17th floor.
Two room cards...
Zhou Wang fell into deep thought.
He rummaged through his other pockets and found his phone, cigarettes, lighter, etc., but nothing else of his own.
So, either Charles mistakenly slipped something into his pocket, or the room cards were the gift.
Considering Charles personally brought him to this floor, it was apparent the answer was the latter.
But... why two room cards?
Zhou Wang just couldn’t figure that out.
If they were adjoining rooms, it would be understandable, but based on the corridor signs, one room was east and the other west. Zhou Wang couldn’t grasp what Charles meant.
After thinking it over, he took a cigarette from the cigarette case, spun it in his palm, and when it pointed east, he pocketed the "1709" card and headed towards "1722" with the other card.
The corridor was silent, as if no one else was around.
As per the standards of the Shilla Hotel, each floor should have staff on duty. From the quietness, Zhou Wang deduced that either the staff had been notified in advance, or Charles had generously booked the entire floor.
Zhou Wang felt reassured by how strong his logical thinking was, even when drunk, and believed this was likely the case.
After walking down the carpeted corridor for a while, Zhou Wang stopped. He had reached room "1722."
This room was at the far end of the corridor, the last room on this floor. Generally, rooms located here would have a more spacious layout and view, probably making it the best room on this floor.
Zhou Wang hesitated for a moment, then took the room card and swiped it over the door lock.
With a familiar international unlocking sound, the indicator light on the door turned "green," signaling that it was now accessible.
He grasped the door handle and opened the door.
He was greeted by darkness, with only a little light spilling from the hallway. Beyond that, he could only make out the vague outlines of the living room.
Zhou Wang thought for a moment and glanced back. Though no one was there, he believed Gao Xing or Qu Peining might be watching him from somewhere, or perhaps even Gao Xing had checked the room beforehand.
Moreover, Zhou Wang didn’t think Charles intended to harm him, so he confidently stepped inside.
With the door closing, the view improved somewhat.
Zhou Wang squinted his eyes and first noticed a pair of high heels placed in the corner.
