Chapter 500: Seeking Nightingale in a Myanmar Village
In the mountain forest, a figure moved like a ghost, darting swiftly through the trees.
The forest was quiet, filled only with the chirping of birds and the rustling of leaves in the wind.
Jiang Xinghai’s gaze was firm and cold, as if announcing his arrival to the world.
Before long, he crossed the border and set foot in Myanmar.
The forests here were even denser. The branches and leaves of the trees blotted out the sun, and the morning light that filtered through the gaps cast an exceptionally dim and mysterious glow on the ground.
His objective was clear: first, find Arhat, then go to Jing County to rescue Qiu Caie’s younger brother and sister.
That included all his compatriots from the Dragon Country—he would rescue every single one he could!
According to the map, Arhat’s hideout was in a small village called Daning Village.
He walked along a small path, flanked by dense woods and steep slopes.
The sound of flowing water drifted from a distance, but he was in no mood to admire the scenery and continued onward.
This mountain range had overlapping peaks shrouded in mist and clouds. It was a subtropical climate, so even though autumn had begun, it was still incredibly hot.
「One hour later.」
Jiang Xinghai traveled alone, and everything was peaceful.
He finally spotted several wooden houses not far ahead and slipped into the shadows.
’This is it, Daning Village!’
’The hideout of Arhat, the traitor from the Dragon Country’s War Department!’
’I’m about to meet Arhat, the man who took my parents and made them disappear five years ago!’
Jiang Xinghai’s heart raced. Although he was fully prepared, he still couldn’t suppress the mix of nervousness and anticipation.
Opening his WeChat group, he sent a private message to his Second Senior Sister, Zhong Yunman, to update her on his situation.
Zhong Yunman was dressed in a dark green overcoat, still at the Western Border Snow Mountain. Her expression was grave as she led her subordinates on a mission.
Upon seeing Jiang Xinghai’s message, her expression softened. She replied, "Little Junior Brother, you’ve finally reached Daning Village. Do you see the Rhine Roasted Fish Shop at the east end of the village? Go there. My person, Nightingale, is lying low there. Show her your silver needle, and she’ll recognize you."
"Thanks for the trouble, Senior Sister. Once I capture Arhat and find out where my parents are, I’ll come find you. I miss you," Jiang Xinghai replied.
"I... miss you too. But my mission isn’t over yet; I’m still in the Western Border. You should go find your Third Senior Sister first. Eldest Senior Sister is still abroad and hasn’t returned yet," Zhong Yunman chatted casually.
The two chatted for a minute before ending the conversation.
After all, both of them had things to do!
’Rhine roasted fish?’
Jiang Xinghai knew a little about it. It was one of Myanmar’s specialties.
He then stepped out from the woods and walked straight into Daning Village.
Because the two countries were so close, the village was used to seeing unfamiliar faces, so Jiang Xinghai’s arrival caused no stir.
The Rhine Roasted Fish Shop wasn’t large. Inside, there was only an old man and a young woman.
The old man was smoking a traditional long-stemmed pipe, and the young woman had two scars and a lot of acne on her face.
If it weren’t for the scars and acne, the woman’s beauty could almost rival that of his Second Senior Sister, Zhong Yunman.
As for her figure, although her clothes were loose-fitting, her overall appearance was still stunning.
"How many you want, buddy? Spicy, mild, medium, or extra spicy?" the scarred woman asked, glancing at Jiang Xinghai.
"Excuse me, are you Nightingale?" Jiang Xinghai asked.
He didn’t beat around the bush, getting straight to the point.
As he got closer, he could see that the scars and acne on her face were an illusion, a disguise created through muscle and bone manipulation.
’This must be her—Nightingale, Second Senior Sister Zhong Yunman’s subordinate.’
"What are you talking about, buddy? I don’t understand," the scarred woman said, shaking her head.
WHOOSH!
Without another word, Jiang Xinghai flicked a silver needle, and it instantly embedded itself in the stem of the old man’s pipe.
"My pipe!"
The old man winced, then quickly greeted Jiang Xinghai, "Young Master Jiang, was that really necessary? Please, come in."
Seeing this, the scarred woman’s lips curved into a smile. "Young Master Jiang, you’re so direct. Aren’t you afraid of arousing suspicion?"
The old man and the young woman had, of course, already received a message from Zhong Yunman.
Jiang Xinghai smiled, as if everything was under his control.
His gaze held a confident arrogance. "When I, Jiang Xinghai, do something, why should I fear anyone’s suspicion? Besides, in a village this small, do you two really get any customers running a roasted fish shop?"
"Actually, we sell more than thirty a day," the old man said, still enthusiastically inviting Jiang Xinghai to come inside and sit down.
"That’s right. Daning Village is on the main path to Jing County for three other villages, so plenty of people pass through every afternoon." The scarred woman set a chili-covered fish on the grill. "Are you sure you don’t want one, Young Master Jiang?"
Jiang Xinghai shook his head, his expression turning serious. "Nightingale, why would you do that to a perfectly fine face?"
Nightingale no longer bothered with the pretense. "Sigh, you saw right through my air of mystery. How boring."
As she spoke, she wiped her hands clean, then covered her face and, with a series of movements, restored her original appearance.
Her features gradually transformed. Her once-plain face began to radiate a captivating charm. She had a classic oval face and a slightly bronze complexion that glowed with a healthy, striking beauty.
