Chapter 1238: System Upgrade
After the Divine Soul Kingdom was established, half of Vaan’s worries were quickly alleviated.
The Divine Soul Kingdom acted as both an anchor and a magnet, strengthening his connection to the Astral Soul Realm, as well as harvesting its vast, endless power to nourish himself.
It could be said that in ordinary times, laying this foundation was equivalent to paving a clear path for all of his future cultivation, free of obstacles and bottlenecks. His ascension would have been unhindered.
Unfortunately, Vaan was born in an unordinary time, carrying an unordinary fate.
Everything was meaningless if he was eyed by one of the world’s strongest existences. If he could not overcome this ordeal, his achievements would mean nothing in the end.
Ding!
...
The Grand Reversal Spell, also called the Grand Revival Spell, required an astronomical amount of Soul Power to create.
Thanks to the system’s connection to the Astral Soul Realm, its construction no longer needed Vaan’s active input. The spell’s construction could be fully automated under the system’s management.
Even so, a significant amount of time was still required, even if the spell’s construction progressed smoothly and uninterrupted.
Ding!
...
...
Vaan’s expression became grave upon receiving this sudden news.
The Grand Reversal Spell was his ultimate hope to overcome his fated death. If it could not be completed, he would undoubtedly die an existential death.
It was beyond his expectations that the heavenly laws would go against him, tampering with his spell creation. He couldn’t help but feel angry. It was as if the heavenly laws were siding with the Outerworlders.
This situation was truly difficult to stomach.
Fortunately, all hope wasn’t completely lost. The system could counteract the resisting forces, albeit at the cost of extra Soul Power.
However, this entailed that more Soul Power would be required to complete the spell!
Vaan’s gaze grew fiercer as he listened to the system’s recalculation of the estimated Soul Power required for the spell creation.
Not only had the total cost increased several times, but it was still increasing!
The most completed the spell was, the fiercer the resistance, and the greater the demand for Soul Power!
’The world truly wants me to die!’ Vaan’s heart grew heavy at this thought.
The process had been too smooth until now. The phrase "man proposes, god disposes" was quite apt for this situation. Nothing could always go according to plan. His sense of control over his situation was only an illusion.
After all, he was going against forces far greater than himself.
’At this rate, the Grand Reversal Spell might reach completion in time,’ Vaan sighed, feeling overwhelming pressure.
Although the system continued to make progress in the spell’s creation, the situation was actually in a stalemate. The closer it got to completion, the further it actually got away from it.
The resisting forces would keep growing until the progress was completely stalled.
’My supply of Soul Power is not high enough, and the system is also not strong enough. In that case...’
Vaan decisively gave up on the Grand Reversal Spell’s creation. It had become a rabbit hole with fruitless gains. It was better to focus on something with achievable progress for the time being.
Ding!
...
Vaan had decisively spent 1000 units of Soul Power to level up his system. Since it was convenient, he did not hesitate.
Once the system completed its upgrade, he would undoubtedly become more useful.
After all, he had designed it himself.
Vaan forced himself not to think about the negative issues and simply looked forward to the system’s upgrade.
A level 3 system could provide more comprehensive help with its new features.
Vaan glanced at the duration of the system’s upgrade. Six hours in the Astral Soul Realm was not a lot of time. In reality, it would pass very quickly.
After he replenished his Soul Power, he decided to return to reality.
...
Vaan had spent a few days in the Astral Soul Realm. In reality, only several hours had passed. The Azure Wanderer was still shuttling towards its next destination.
When Vaan reached the navigation screen and opened the starchart, he noticed they were still three hours away from the third survivor base.
"You seemed troubled, Lord Vaan," Empyrean Oceanheart spoke, noticing his subconscious frown.
Vaan was surprised, and his frown was lifted. He had not paid attention and noticed that he had been subconsciously frowning.
Clearly, the issue with the Grand Reversal Spell weighed heavily on his mind and heart.
Nevertheless, he still put on his best, charming smile and lightly said, "Indeed, I am, and it’s making me feel down. However, if Oshenra gives me a kiss, I reckon I will cheer up immediately."
Ba-dump!
Empyrean Oceanheart’s heart skipped a beat as she stared at Vaan with surprise, not expecting him to suddenly flirt with him.
They have always been formal with each other. Thus, this rare exchange certainly caught her off guard. Surprisingly, she noticed that she did not hate this kind of interaction.
Of course, it also depended on the person.
