"Should I not use any other ingredients than this?

"Oh. This is just like an arm test, so take it easy"

I see, no additional materials?

Making a healing drug that works well with just these two ingredients is quite a challenge.

For a single alchemist, that may be too easy a challenge... but unfortunately I'm half a servant.

"If you don't know how to formulate it, do you want me to bring you a book?

"No, because it's an exam. I want to challenge you on my own merits."

That's what I'm gonna do, start washing pots.

If my knowledge of half a serving is correct, the key to this exam is handling Nigigi grass.

When extracting active ingredients from Nigi grass, 'water used' and 'temperature control' become very important.

Rarely for low-ranking herbs, nigigrass has an active ingredient in the water attribute… its ingredient is so vulnerable to too much temperature rise that it is difficult to extract while retaining its effect.

Using pure water, keep optimal temperature and simmer out.

This is the procedure necessary for extracting the active ingredients of Nigi grass.

To do this, you can't leave even the slightest stain on the pan.

"Is it okay to spend about five hours simmering the ingredients?

Trying to get the most out of the active ingredients in Nigi Grass takes about five hours.

In the meantime, the ingredients are gradually simmered and extracted.

There is also no way to extract ingredients by alchemy… magic forces the necessary ingredients out of the material, thus reducing the quality of the active ingredients.

When you want to make a really high quality medicine, it's best to simmer it by hand.

"Oh. Do what you want.... I don't have to be here to supervise the exam."

That's what Rails said, and he lowered his back to the chair.

Watching it, I put water in the pan and activate the flaming magic.

"To simmer, you can use the magic props there."

"For the sake of temperature control, I'd like to do it with my own magic... Could magic be against the rules?

"No, there's no problem... because there's no such thing as a guy who can keep using magic for five hours. Use your magic gear whenever it gets tough with out of magic."

I see.

Sure, it takes a lot of getting used to keeping the magic output all the time for five hours.

This flaming magic is one of my few specialty magics.

Alchemy often requires temperature control, so I had to keep using this magic for alchemy.

I've been using it almost every day for almost 90 years, and it's weirder not to get used to it.

With that in mind, I started simmering Nigi grass.

Then, roughly five hours later.

"Well, here's the thing"

I shrug and stop the flaming magic and activate the cooling magic the other way around.

Then... the brown broth turned to bright blue at once.

"... that's the first color I've ever seen. Was Nigigi Grass broth so blue?

That's what Rails asked me when he saw me transfer the broth to the flask.

I would have made it normally...... but would I have done it differently?

"What color are they usually?

"More, it's just going to be a little blue brown. At least that's the broth our alchemists made."

Blue brown......

The broth of Nigigi grass, which has been simmered in the wrong way, does come in that color.

Making medication from broth in that condition would do little or no good.

But... even half a serving of me can handle as decent as Nigigi grass, so there's no way the alchemists in one place can mishandle it.

I'm sure the broth from the really well boiled Nigigi grass will turn blue brown.

I don't think I've reached that area yet.

"Well, this is what I'm capable of right now"

That said, I'll take the liquid from the other beaker.

This is an extract of Niara's roots. I just made it.

Niara root is an easy-to-handle herb with fire attributes, so it was prepared with one hassle of simmering Nigigi grass.

If you mix these two liquids, you can do the medicine for once.

Still, it would work somewhat.

But if you try to make it even more decent, you'll need another effort.

"Well... that's the last step"

That said, I only take a little bit of the dirt on Niara's roots and activate the alchemy.

(Mixed)

Alchemy causes a little magic in the earthly attributes to mix in the Niigi Grass Extract and the Niara Root Extract.

By doing so, "Nigigrass Water Attributes" and "Niara Root Fire Attributes" do not collide directly, making it easier to produce effects.

"Done."

Finally, mix the two liquids together and finish the medicine.

I pack the medicine in the beaker in a bottle, plug it up and give it to Rayles.

To be honest, the effects are poor compared to the medications I used before I was rejuvenated.

But I just wanted to think that half a serving of me did my best to make it with low-grade ingredients...

"That's a vibrant arrangement. I watched when the ingredients were simmered or bottled, but there was no waste at all in the movement. It was like watching your masterful grandfathers.... for almost five more hours, I didn't know you were going to keep the flaming magic... it sounds like the crackling rookie was a hell of a guy."

"... as an alchemist, it's only half a serving."

"It didn't look that way, though.... If that's all the arm you had that year, maybe it'll still stretch."

When I receive the finished potion with that said, I begin to make serious observations.

Then he asks me.

"It's the first color medicine I've ever seen. Can we give it a try?

"Try it?"

"Oh, actually, just now, I cut my finger off with paper."

That's what Rails said. He showed me a little scratch on his fingertips.

Even without a potion, it's a wound that will heal if left alone.

With such a wound, I don't think I can be sure of the potion's performance... do you have any ideas?
