Chapter 102: The Audacity.
The hyena had fired his arrow. But Sunnie was quick enough to toss a stick in that direction. The stick brushed the arrow off in another direction, preventing it from hitting the baby.
The baby still sat there, smiling and giggling at the scene as though nothing had happened. It probably didn’t even know the gravity of what was happening right before her.
Sunnie gasped, letting out a sharp breath as she approached the baby. "Are you okay...?" She could quickly feel the connection as she picked up the baby in her arms, cuddling her warmly while patting her hair. "Are you okay...?"
The baby smiled in her arms, still giggling.
Sunnie let out a soft gasp of relief while she glared down at the baby. She couldn’t help but smile.
She was beautiful. With her chubby and adorable face, her big blue eyes, and blue hair that seemed to glimmer under the sunlight, the baby looked so healthy and adorable that Sunnie could just cry. She couldn’t believe the baby was hers. She felt proud seeing her, but she guessed this wasn’t the time for that.
But at that moment, the hunter fired another arrow. Sunnie was quick to dodge. She stared at the arrow and then turned to look at the hunter.
"What’s wrong with you? How can you aim at a baby like that? Are you heartless or just another monster in the evil forest?" she questioned.
The hyena beastman stared at her and simply scoffed. At that moment, he recognized her. "Ah! It’s you! The jinxed rabbit that was banished to the evil forest!"
He laughed out loud as Sunnie stared at him. It had been a while since someone referred to her as that. She held onto her baby firmly as the man continued.
"I can’t believe you’re still alive in the forest, huh? I actually thought you would already be dead by now!" He laughed more.
Then the man continued, looking around. "I can’t believe my eyes. Meeting the infamous useless jinxed rabbit who brought nothing but chaos to her people."
"It feels so satisfying seeing you in this messed-up evil land. I bet even if you’re not dead, you’re suffering as you should. Huh?"
Sunnie held her chin high. "If you have nothing important to say, then it might actually be best to get out of here."
The man adjusted his arrow and laughed. "Get out? What gave you the right to tell me that? You useless rabbit."
He glared down at the baby, holding his arrow toward her. "And let me guess, this useless rabbit gave birth to a baby? And shall I guess more?"
"It’s said that you’re still bound by those cursed husbands of yours! And so this must be one of their children, huh?" He laughed. "What a joke! Should cursed beings even be allowed to make more babies? Wouldn’t they be making more cursed beings for our land?"
Sunnie clenched her fist, glaring at him as she said, almost calmly, "It must have taken enough effort to sound this dumb. But too bad, I’m not in the mood to match your stupidity right now. So leave."
The man clenched his fist. He was furious as he glared at Sunnie. "The audacity! How dare you speak to me in that manner?"
Sunnie scoffed. "And why can’t I speak such words to a stupid beastman?"
He laughed, pissed off, as he said, "How dare a stupid cursed rabbit even have a say? Who do you even think you are? What a joke! I bet your stupid child will also be as cursed as you! You two really do deserve to be in this evil land forever and die together."
Sunnie rolled her eyes. "And you really deserve the small insignificant brain you have."
"....!" The beastman was speechless. He raised his arrow and positioned it toward Sunnie. "You still have the mouth to speak more, huh? Well, I’d like to see what that does for you! I’ll make you see the consequences." He laughed mischievously.
Sunnie held onto her baby firmly as she stepped backwards. She watched as the beastman got ready to strike her down while she looked around for a way out.
But nothing hopeful was around. She panicked.
The hyena laughed even more. "What now? Nothing to save yourself with? Well then, face your death, you jinxed rabbit! I’m sure everyone will be happy and proud of me for killing insignificant beings like you two who don’t even deserve to live!"
He laughed as he pulled the arrow and struck, watching it fly toward Sunnie. He anticipated seeing it hit her down like his prey. He was sure everyone would be proud if he brought them the head of this rabbit.
But before the arrow could even reach Sunnie, someone grabbed it.
A hand stretched out and held onto the arrow, firmly squeezing it until it broke into pieces. Then Sunnie, who had closed her eyes in shock, opened them to see Azure standing beside her.
The baby giggled happily as if she knew what was happening. The sight and feel of the man standing close to her had made her happy.
Sunnie blinked, a smile lingering at the side of her cheek. "You...." She hadn’t been this relieved to see anyone in a long time.
Azure turned and stared at her and the baby. "Are you okay?"
Sunnie nodded. He turned to the baby and let out a soft smile. Sunnie was yet to get used to that smile of his—that genuine smile he had for his little one. She was certain he was more than happy to see her.
Then his mood changed. Azure’s smile instantly faded into a cold frown as he turned to stare at the hunter who was still standing there with his bow and arrow.
He glared murderously at him as he said, "And who do you think you are? What gave you the audacity to try harming my woman and my child?"
