Chapter 8: Wang Duoyu-Style Stock Trading Method
In the vast stock market, the funds Chen Mo had on hand didn’t even make a ripple.
Even with Guanlan Automobile’s stock, it didn’t cause any stir.
At most, some people just discovered that the sell orders they had placed were filled.
Other than being thankful that some stubborn fool was willing to take the shares off their hands, there was nothing more.
"What on earth will the turning point be?"
Chen Mo put down his phone, habitually stroking his chin as he sank into thought.
Although he had great faith in his unique constitution and knew the stock would definitely rise in the end, he also tried to figure out what the turning point would be from the perspective of an industry professional or a retail investor.
After a moment of contemplation, he came to a conclusion.
His constitution was like a missile. He knew its launch point and its target, but he was completely oblivious to the flight path in between.
If he didn’t know, there was no way anyone else could.
’Whatever. As long as the outcome is good, the process doesn’t matter.’
Since he couldn’t figure it out, Chen Mo decided to just stop thinking about it.
DING-A-LING~
Just as he was about to head out to buy groceries, his phone suddenly rang.
Chen Mo picked up his phone and saw that someone had sent him a WeChat message.
When he saw who sent the message, Chen Mo was slightly taken aback, a little surprised.
’Xia Shiqing?’
’It’s actually her?’
Chen Mo was very surprised. He never expected Xia Shiqing to suddenly message him.
Xia Shiqing, female, twenty-six years old. A foreign-educated finance professional, she was the supervisor at the first company he’d joined after graduation, as well as his direct superior.
As mentioned before, to make it in the finance industry, you either need a degree from a top university or you need to have your own connections and resources.
Xia Shiqing had graduated from a prestigious overseas university, and one of her relatives was a partner at the firm, so she joined the company right after graduation.
Leveraging her own skills and her family’s resources, she quickly achieved great results and was promoted to supervisor.
At first, the other employees grumbled about it, but after seeing Xia Shiqing’s celestial beauty, they suddenly felt it was all perfectly reasonable.
Xia Shiqing wasn’t actually cold or aloof at the company, but perhaps because she was so beautiful, she naturally gave off an unapproachable vibe. Outside of work, very few people interacted with her.
Although he had worked under Xia Shiqing, their relationship was strictly professional. Chen Mo had no personal connection with her.
’I’ve been gone for over half a year now, so why is Xia Shiqing suddenly messaging me?’
"Chen Mo, I saw you took a heavy position in Guanlan Automobile. Do you know something?"
After opening the message from Xia Shiqing, a look of sudden understanding dawned on Chen Mo’s face.
’So that’s why. No wonder she messaged me out of the blue.’
He wasn’t surprised that she knew about his trading history.
He had opened his brokerage account after joining that first company, and every transaction had to be received and executed through the firm.
For risk monitoring purposes, the firm could also view the records of every trade.
In other words, as a supervisor, Xia Shiqing had the legal authority to view his trading records.
He just hadn’t expected a supervisor like Xia Shiqing to pay attention to his small-time trades.
’And judging by her last sentence, does she suspect I have insider information?’
"I just wanted to try the Wang Duoyu method of stock trading. I don’t know anything else."
Chen Mo’s fingers flew across the screen, not even batting an eye as he typed.
’I’m only sure that it’ll go up, but I don’t know why. That doesn’t count as having insider information, right?’
Lujiazui, in a tall, beautiful office building.
In a spacious and bright office with a view of the Oriental Pearl through its glass curtain wall.
A stunningly beautiful woman sat in front of the computer on her desk.
TAP TAP TAP...
She gazed at Chen Mo’s message on her computer’s WeChat client, her long, slender fingers tapping gently on the desk as a thoughtful expression flickered in her eyes.
She remembered Chen Mo. Average education, no connections, decent skills.
His style was conservative; he rarely took risks.
Guanlan Automobile’s recent average daily turnover rate, trading volume, and bid-ask spread were all very low.
Combined with it hitting the limit down several times recently and the losses announced in the financial report, the firm was currently assessing the risk.
That’s why she had been paying extra attention to this particular stock, which led to her stumbling upon Chen Mo’s account in the company’s trade records today.
She then discovered that Chen Mo had been buying small amounts over the last few days, and had bought a significant chunk right after the market opened today. All told, he had invested over two hundred thousand.
From what she knew of Chen Mo, he wasn’t well-off. This was very likely his entire life savings.
The consensus in the industry was that Guanlan Automobile had virtually no chance of a comeback. The stock was a terrible buy—even retail investors knew that.
No retail investor would go all-in on this stock under these conditions, let alone an industry professional like Chen Mo.
Especially when she recalled his trading style: conservative, and extremely risk-averse.
As an industry insider, she could only think of one explanation for such abnormal behavior.
Insider information.
"Fine. Just don’t go throwing your money around."
Xia Shiqing’s long, fair, and slender fingers danced across the keyboard like butterflies.
She knew Chen Mo understood what she was asking, but it was clear he didn’t want to talk. In that case, she had to let it go.
As for his claim about copying Wang Duoyu, she wasn’t gullible enough to believe that for a second.
’Learn from him? Do you have a billion yuan to burn?’
She didn’t actually doubt that Chen Mo had insider information on Guanlan Automobile.
Just because Chen Mo had no connections in the financial world didn’t mean he didn’t have them in other industries.
Sometimes, even an ordinary member of a key project team in another industry could provide information of immense value.
She just wasn’t sure if this particular piece of insider information was genuine.
After all, as a department head, any move she made would involve a substantial amount of capital.
If the so-called insider information turned out to be false, the consequences would be immense.
She was under a lot of pressure recently and couldn’t afford to make a mistake.
’I should still give it a try.’
Perhaps it was her woman’s intuition, but in the end, she decided to test the waters.
’After all, you can’t be in this business without taking risks.’
However, she planned to buy a small amount with her own money. That way, even if the tip was bogus, the loss wouldn’t be significant.
As a manager at the firm, she had to submit a written application to the compliance department before purchasing any stocks.
The application had to state the stock, quantity, time, and reason for the trade, and she could only proceed after it was approved.
She had gone through this procedure many times before. After receiving approval, she immediately bought 130 lots.
The same amount as Chen Mo.
If Chen Mo dared to bet that much money, then so did she.
At the very least, she had more money than Chen Mo and could afford the loss.
...
Seeing Xia Shiqing’s reply, Chen Mo just smiled.
He knew what Xia Shiqing was thinking, but he couldn’t just casually share information of such immense value with someone who was neither a friend nor family.
Everyone would probably find out later today anyway, but the value of information lay in that time gap.
The earlier one received the news, the earlier one could act, and the greater the profit.
Time flew by, and soon it was 5:00 PM. The stock market had long since closed for the day.
And just then, Chen Mo finally saw the news he had been waiting for.
Saturday morning—tomorrow.
The CEO of the consumer device group from a world-class southern communications giant would personally lead a team to the Guanlan Automobile headquarters to discuss a potential partnership on new energy vehicles with Guanlan Automobile’s founding team.
"Here comes the big one!"
Seeing the news, Chen Mo couldn’t help but take a deep breath, his heart pounding with excitement.
