Chapter 27: The Joy of the Gaming Room

Staring at the row of bright green stocks in his portfolio, Chen Mo felt as though he were looking at a mountain of gold.

While others saw a screen full of green, he saw glittering gold.

Of course, the account he used to buy the stocks was a new one he had registered with a different brokerage firm.

Xia Shiqing couldn’t see it.

If he had used his previous account, Xia Shiqing would have definitely found out about his purchase of these ten stocks.

What if Xia Shiqing thought it was the secret to getting rich and used company funds to buy in?

The consequences...

Chen Mo would probably become the person she hated most in the world, second only to her father.

...

After exiting the stock trading app, he opened a shopping app.

He searched for computer hardware, and a slew of products like CPUs, graphics cards, and motherboards popped up.

He was renting a two-bedroom apartment. His original plan was to have one bedroom and one gaming room.

But what’s a gaming room without the gear?

So he decided to build a decent rig himself and buy a new monitor.

When he had free time, he could just hang out in his gaming room with the AC blasting, drinking an ice-cold cola and gaming to his heart’s content.

The beautiful image was enough to make him start humming just thinking about it.

"A 4090 graphics card, a CPU..."

He made a list of components, basically all top-of-the-line hardware that was currently in stock and available for purchase.

For example, for the graphics card, he had wanted to buy the latest 5090.

But it had just been released and was in very short supply. You’d usually have to wait for weeks with no guarantee of getting one.

So, he had no choice but to settle for the next best thing: the 4090.

’If I can get a newer one later, I’ll just swap it out.’

As for monitors, he bought two.

One for gaming, one for watching the stock market.

He added them to his cart and placed the order.

The final bill came out to tens of thousands of yuan, but Chen Mo paid without batting an eye.

Compared to the joy of a gaming room, what were tens of thousands of yuan?

If you could measure happiness in terms of cost-effectiveness, then gaming was definitely high on the list.

He had bought them from a direct retailer with a warehouse in Modu.

Everything should be delivered by tomorrow, and then he could assemble it himself.

The process of personally assembling a pile of top-tier hardware into a PC, piece by piece, was also incredibly satisfying.

He made himself some lunch, took a short nap, and then went out.

The equipment for the gaming room was sorted. Now he had to replace some of his other electronic devices.

His phone was an iQOO he’d bought in college. Money was tight after graduation, so he’d never replaced it.

Now it was starting to lag, and the battery health had degraded quite a bit.

With his current budget, choosing a new phone meant picking between Apple and Hua Zi.

But looking at the Ultimate Design watch on his wrist, he figured a Hua Zi phone would pair better with it.

Besides, he had recently made a huge profit on Guanlan Automobile stock thanks to Hua Zi.

It felt right to support them by buying some of their products.

He took a taxi straight to the Hua Zi flagship store on Nanjing Road. It was the largest one in all of Modu, with the most complete stock.

Across the street from the Hua Zi store was an Apple store, and diagonally opposite was Samsung.

’The big three really have to stick together, even when opening stores.’

After entering the store, a flicker of surprise involuntarily crossed Chen Mo’s eyes.

It was truly worthy of being the largest flagship store in Modu, or even the entire East China Region.

The decor, the size, the foot traffic—it was all damn impressive.

They didn’t just sell devices like phones, computers, tablets, and wearables.

He noticed a special area had been set aside, supposedly to display the new energy vehicles they were co-developing with Guanlan Automobile.

’Looks like Guanlan Automobile stock has more room to grow.’

A flash of understanding passed through Chen Mo’s eyes. ’This sales channel is too powerful. A phone store that’s also a car dealership? Who can compete with that?’

"Hello, welcome. Please feel free to try out any of our products."

As Chen Mo approached a counter, a salesperson enthusiastically greeted him.

He picked up a foldable phone from the display table to try it out and found it was quite nice.

The design and craftsmanship were exquisite, and the crease was very faint.

You could barely feel it when the screen was on. You could see it a little when the screen was black, but it was no big deal.

Back when he was in the finance industry, he’d seen many mid- to high-level managers using this model.

When they were out, they could unfold their phones for a larger screen area, making it easier to see candlestick charts.

It was practically a must-have for the profession.

"Do you have the Mate X6 in stock?" Chen Mo asked directly.

"Yes, we do. We currently have Nebula White, Nebula Gray, and Deep Sea Blue. The Interstellar Red and Obsidian Black are temporarily out of stock."

The salesperson recited the stock situation without even having to think.

"I’ll take a white one."

Chen Mo thought the white one he was holding looked pretty good; he quite liked it.

As for the Interstellar Red and Obsidian Black, he felt they were a bit too business-like.

They were more suited for someone a bit older. The white one seemed more youthful.

"Alright, what memory size would you like?"

The salesperson noticed the Ultimate Design watch on Chen Mo’s wrist and knew this was a customer who wasn’t short on cash.

"The largest."

Chen Mo said without a second of hesitation.

Hearing this, the salesperson immediately went to get the product.

"Sir, this is the 16GB+1TB Collector’s Edition. The price is 15,999 yuan."

The salesperson showed Chen Mo the version information on the box.

"I’ll also take a look at headphones, laptops, and tablets."

’Since I’m buying, might as well get the whole set,’ Chen Mo thought. ’Having the full ecosystem will be more convenient.’

By the time Chen Mo walked out of the flagship store, his phone had been replaced with the X6, and he was carrying several shopping bags.

On the taxi ride home, he sat in the back seat, trying out his new phone.

"You really get what you pay for."

Chen Mo played with it for a while and nodded in satisfaction.

He had never used such an expensive phone before; he had only ever seen others use them.

He used to think spending so much money on a phone was pointless.

Now that he had money himself...

It felt so damn good.

All you can say is, the more expensive something is, the more you have to respect its sales figures.

Because money doesn’t lie.

...

「The next day.」

Chen Mo woke up early in the morning.

He changed into his workout clothes, put on his wireless earbuds, and went for a run in a park next to his residential complex.

After connecting his new phone to his watch yesterday, he had seen health and workout plan programs in the app.

So he set up a workout plan for himself to go for a run every morning.

Health is wealth, after all. Maintaining a good exercise habit was a pretty good idea.

Otherwise, he might have too much money in his bank account and too many beautiful women around him in the future, but not have a healthy body to enjoy it all.

And wouldn’t that just be a total waste?

"Haaa..."

Drenched in sweat, Chen Mo returned home from his workout.

Although he was sweaty and a little out of breath, he felt inexplicably refreshed.

He didn’t know why.

’Could this be the dopamine from exercising? The kind that makes you feel happy?’

He took a quick shower and changed into some casual clothes.

Just as he was about to make some breakfast, he heard a sound that made his eyes gleam.

"DING!"

Hearing that notification, Chen Mo felt even more delighted.
