Chapter 43: I Have a Video, How Will You Respond?
The sound of Chen Mo’s car crashing into the wall caught the attention of the dealership’s salespeople.
When they turned their heads and saw the car Chen Mo had just picked up had hit the wall,
they were all stunned.
They then rushed over. Seeing Chen Mo and his colleague in the car, they anxiously pounded on the windows.
"Mr. Chen, are you all right?"
"Old Liu, are you okay? Hurry and open the door."
The people outside shouted anxiously.
Old Liu, Chen Mo’s salesperson, heard the pounding on the window.
It was only then that he snapped out of the shock from the crash and quickly unlocked the doors.
The door was pulled open by the people outside, and Chen Mo unbuckled his seatbelt and got out of the car.
"Mr. Chen, are you hurt?"
The sales supervisor looked at Chen Mo with a concerned expression.
"I’m fine, but your car has a problem. A huge problem!"
Chen Mo shook his head, his expression grim and his tone heavy as he spoke to him.
Although it had been a close call, no one was hurt.
But the new car he had spent 1.47 million on had such a major and elementary safety failure.
He was furious and terrified in retrospect.
Thankfully, they hadn’t left the dealership yet, and the low speed prevented any injuries.
What if this had happened on the main road? What would the consequences have been?
If the dealership didn’t offer him a satisfactory compensation plan for this,
he would absolutely post the video online.
He was now very glad that he had instinctively filmed the moment he pressed the brake and pulled the handbrake.
With evidence in hand, he had leverage.
"What problem?"
A look of suspicion appeared in the sales supervisor’s eyes. ’What problem could our cars have?’
’This is a brand-new car.’
’Could it be that Chen Mo made a mistake himself, caused the damage, and is now trying to pin the blame on us?’
"You might not believe my word, so why don’t you let your own salesperson tell you."
Chen Mo saw the doubt in the sales supervisor’s eyes and knew he didn’t believe him.
So he might as well let one of their own tell him what happened.
He wasn’t afraid of Old Liu lying; his action camera had clearly captured the evidence.
"Old Liu, what exactly happened?"
Seeing how confident Chen Mo was, the sales supervisor suddenly had a bad feeling and quickly looked at Old Liu.
"Supervisor Zhang, the car... the foot brake failed, and the electronic handbrake didn’t work either..."
Old Liu hesitated for a moment but still revealed the car’s major safety issue.
He knew what consequences this incident would have for their brand and their dealership.
But a problem like brake failure was far too serious; he didn’t dare cover it up.
If an accident happened in the future, he would be held responsible for concealing it.
"What?!"
Hearing Old Liu’s words, Supervisor Zhang and the other salespeople were stunned.
Their eyes went wide, their faces filled with disbelief.
’The foot brake failed?’
’The electronic handbrake didn’t work?’
’How is that possible?’
’This is a brand-new car. It was perfectly fine just now when it was moved from the showroom to the delivery area.’
’How could it suddenly fail?’
’And both the foot brake and the electronic handbrake failed at the same time?’
’This is an incredibly serious safety malfunction!’
Once this was confirmed and the news got out, it would be a massive PR crisis for both their brand and their dealership.
The resulting losses would be immeasurable.
"Are you sure you pressed the brake and it didn’t slow down, or did you just not press the brake at all?"
The supervisor squinted at Old Liu, his expression serious, his tone laden with hidden meaning as he asked.
’I have to find a way to resolve this PR crisis.’
’Otherwise, things won’t end well for anyone.’
Hearing Supervisor Zhang’s words, Old Liu instantly understood his hint.
Similar incidents had happened before, and recalling how the dealership handled them, he knew what the supervisor meant.
His expression changed slightly, and he became hesitant and conflicted.
"I... I got a little shaken up by the crash, my mind’s a bit fuzzy. I might not remember it clearly. Let me try to recall..."
Old Liu put a hand to his forehead as if trying to remember, lowering his head and mumbling.
He remembered Chen Mo was filming a vlog, but they were about to hit the wall.
’Who wouldn’t be sweating bullets at a time like that? Who would have the presence of mind to keep filming?’
’His hands were probably shaking too much. He couldn’t have captured it on video.’
’Without evidence, he could totally say he just forgot to hit the brake.’
Hearing Old Liu’s reply, a hint of satisfaction appeared in Supervisor Zhang’s eyes, and he gave an imperceptible nod.
A cold sneer, however, flashed across Chen Mo’s lips.
’These two are trying to pull a fast one right in front of me. Do they really think I’m an idiot?’
Chen Mo understood the hint Supervisor Zhang had given Old Liu.
It was nothing more than getting Old Liu to change his story and insist that he had forgotten to press the brake.
That way, it would be Old Liu’s personal responsibility, and Old Liu would have to compensate Chen Mo for his losses.
Although, in the end, the dealership would certainly cover the cost.
But it would allow them to nip a major crisis in the bud.
’What a clever scheme.’
Chen Mo sneered inwardly. ’The other party sure reacts fast. They’ve already started playing dirty.’
But in the face of absolute proof,
all their little tricks were as flimsy as paper, ready to fall apart at the slightest touch.
However, since they were resorting to dirty tricks, he couldn’t rush to tell them he had the video.
Otherwise, they had the numbers advantage. If they got any malicious ideas and snatched his action camera to destroy it,
then his evidence would be gone.
He never tested human nature, because human nature couldn’t withstand testing.
The moment he got out of the car, he had put the Pocket 3 in his pocket.
And he had used his phone to send Feng Yu a WeChat message. She was now on her way.
Only with Feng Yu present would he reveal the video.
Otherwise, showing it now would be like serving himself up on a platter.
"Mr. Chen, you heard him. Old Liu can’t clearly remember if he hit the brake or not."
"But it’s most likely that he forgot. He’s been very busy these past few days with little rest, so he probably zoned out."
"Rest assured, although your loss was caused by Old Liu’s mistake, our dealership is willing to cover all your damages. We’ll pay for all the repair costs."
Supervisor Zhang looked at Chen Mo with a smile, brushing past the matter of brake failure in just a few sentences.
He directly asserted that Old Liu had simply forgotten to brake.
"I believe the car has an onboard computer, right? Whether the brake was pressed or not, we’ll know if we just check it, won’t we?"
Chen Mo remained expressionless, asking the question nonchalantly.
Every car has an onboard computer, similar to an airplane’s black box.
The onboard computer records all sorts of detailed vehicle data.
For example, when the accelerator was pressed and how far down the pedal went.
When the brake was pressed and how far down that pedal went.
It also records the driving speed and so on.
All kinds of detailed data are available.
As long as they check the onboard computer, they’ll naturally know if the brake was pressed.
"Don’t you worry about that. Old Zhao, go arrange for an engineer to check the onboard computer."
Supervisor Zhang was slightly taken aback, but he quickly looked at someone and nodded.
Chen Mo knowing about the onboard computer surprised him a little, but it wasn’t entirely unexpected.
Many male car owners knew about it, while comparatively fewer female owners did.
’The onboard computer does indeed have the data.’
’But the driving data can be modified.’
’I’m sure Old Zhao understands what I mean.’
"This car is mine now. No one is to touch my car without my permission. I will be taking it to a professional third-party inspection agency."
Chen Mo waved his hand dismissively, his tone firm and resolute as he spoke to Supervisor Zhang.
’You’re the referee and the player. What are you trying to pull?’
The other party was an officially authorized 4S dealership and repair center; they had the authority to modify the onboard computer’s data.
’Sending their own engineer to inspect my car’s computer? Do they really take me for a fool?’
"Mr. Chen, we are an officially authorized 4S dealership. We’re more professional than any third party..."
Supervisor Zhang froze, his tone growing slightly urgent.
He hadn’t expected Chen Mo to insist on going to a third-party inspection agency.
If the computer were checked at their dealership, he could guarantee there would be no problem.
Even if there was a problem, it could be modified to show there wasn’t one.
But if it went to a third-party agency, it would be out of his control.
"I only trust a third-party agency."
Chen Mo could see the other man was getting anxious. Just then, his phone buzzed.
He glanced at it. It was a WeChat message from Feng Yu. She had arrived.
"I called the police just now. The officers have arrived."
Chen Mo looked outside and saw Feng Yu walking over with another police officer.
He waved, and Feng Yu immediately walked over when she saw him.
"Officer Feng, I bought a new car at this dealership, and before I could even drive it out the door, the brakes failed and I hit a wall."
Chen Mo quickly and simply explained the situation to Feng Yu.
"Mr. Chen, you can’t just say things like that. The crash was caused by our salesperson’s mistake of forgetting to press the brake."
Supervisor Zhang’s face paled slightly as he quickly tried to correct him.
"But I just clearly filmed the process of him pressing the brake and pulling the handbrake."
"I have video proof. Now, how do you intend to explain this?"
Chen Mo took the Pocket 3 out of his pocket, a cold smirk playing on his lips as he looked at Supervisor Zhang.
With Feng Yu here, they wouldn’t dare try to snatch his action camera even if they had ten times the nerve.
’Do they really think that uniform is just for show?’
Hearing Chen Mo say he had an action camera and video evidence,
Supervisor Zhang, Old Liu, and the others were all dumbfounded.
"Dude, seriously? You had a video and you didn’t say so earlier?"
