"I'm sorry about my daughter"

The Duke of Alway left the Baron Dowm family with Olivier apologizing to his grandfather and Jared for his sincere apologies.

Although I dropped off the Dukes, Jared and his grandfather are sitting on the couch powerless.

"It wasn't like a rumor, but you were a healthy young lady"

It was Marte, Jared's grandmother and Baroness Daum, who led the maid there and showed up.

"Grandmother, you were listening to me."

"Yes, of course. Because it would be a lie if I told you that my lovely grandson's fiancée wasn't interested in who he was. But you've put a lot of hard conditions on it."

"What shall we really do? There's no way I can be a court magician. Twelve of the best magicians the country has ever chosen! How many seats are available?"

"Living with your mother-in-law seems very difficult."

"- That way!?

I shouted out loud about the difference between what I and my grandmother meant very much.

My grandfather seemed to be the same, and I am equally surprised by Jared.

"I'm worried that one way or another she and you can do it right"

"I'm worried about you, too. I don't want to believe the rumors, but I don't hear very good things."

When I think of Olivier, who has only bad rumors, I honestly want to decline even if the title was on top.

But my grandfather quietly denied it.

"No, don't worry about the rumors. The Duke is a tough man. Nothing like rumors."

"Even if the eldest daughter of the Duke of Alway's house is stunned with men's and women's play, the Duke can't possibly forgive her. You may ignore the rumors, although there do seem to be personalities."

Jared tilted his neck at the words of his grandparents. It was as if my grandparents knew about the Duke from before.

I am interested to know how much nobility, though, differs too much between the Baron and the Duke, but what does it have to do with anything?

"Does your grandfather and grandmother know the Duke of Alway?

My grandfather affirmed Jared's question by nodding.

"I haven't really spoken publicly, but I've been dating since my predecessors in the Duke of Alway. I have fought with you many times on the battlefield and not once or twice with you. My predecessors and the current Duke of Alway have such ties and frequent exchanges of letters."

"I didn't know. My father never said that, so it's my first ear."

"I didn't tell that stupid son. If that bastard knew there was a connection to the Duke's house, he wouldn't know what to do."

"I'll tell you what, this engagement, too, didn't originally involve Jared."

"What?"

When his grandfather sighed in exaggeration, he began to tell him that he would moisten his throat with tea made of maid.

"It was the beginning of a consultation with the Duke of Alway about your daughter. The same goes for bad rumors, but even if I decide to be my fiancée, I can't help but be as challenged as you are this time, and, you know, I hate to say it, Olivier, but your bad mouth keeps my son from following me, and he's been counting on me to break it."

"There seem to be many late marriages these days, but in aristocracy it is common to have children in their early twenties. Few have children in their teens if they do. Generally speaking, though not, there are not many clans in the aristocracy who would like to welcome Olivier, who is supposedly late."

"So you're saying that the troubled Duke tried to push me against the Baron's, and not succeed to the title?

If so, it's a good annoyance, and I won't say it, but I sincerely think it is.

Living as a nobleman is already a punishment. Jared had a small thing about being an adventurer and wanting to live freely as a magician, but he had ambitions. But I can't do that on this one either.

I'm not going to say it's someone's fault, but it's also true that I'm not convinced.

"It's not. The Duke of Alway was really just consulted about your daughter. Well, I called out to the clan to see if there was anyone I could be with, but guess what."

Perhaps those who believe in Olivier's rumors rejected it.

"I skipped out on the Duke and your son when I found out about Jared, but the stupid son who listened to me from somewhere acted on his own terms with the Duke turned out to be this engagement. Sorry."

"Your grandfather didn't have to apologize."

"No, it's not good. My son may be an excellent swordsman as the eldest son of the Baron Dowm family, known as the Sword clan, but the others were too vain. It was amazingly decent when I was with your mother, but it's obvious if you look after her death. I have more side chambers, I don't skip kids, I keep you to myself."

"If I had the gift of a sword, maybe I would have been different again."

As I mock myself, I squeal.

Jared had no sword talent while he was born into the Baron Dowm family called the Sword Clan. Nothing unusable, but too ordinary for a swordsman. Instead, I am blessed with the talent of a magician, but I am unable to judge which was better at present.

I still remember the face of my father, who had been discouraged since childhood trying to teach me the sword.

My father was awarded the Baron position for his achievements in building a martial arts medal on the battlefield and for marrying his mother, who was a court magician, but he did not intend to let Jared, who had no sword talent, succeed the governor. Perhaps the title will be given to one of the children in the side room, but it's a story I'm not interested in Jared.

Luckily, I grew up without twisting because my grandparents, who are estranged from my father, have been loving me. So I wasn't dissatisfied.

"I don't care. It's called a family of swords, but it can only help in battle. In the first place, there are fewer who excel in magic. People with magic are rarer, so be proud that you are a magician."

"That's right. Magic is called a grace from God, not something you can hope for and hold. Even if you were born with that magic power, there are even a handful more that can be magicians. Be more confident because it is an important gift inherited from your mother, who was a court magician."

Few people have magic in this continent of Frigia. There are even a handful more who can be named magicians, and only a few, though because of how large the continent is when it comes to the level where you can aspire to court magicians.

Therefore, there is also an empty seat for court magicians in this Weathered Kingdom.

Human beings with magic power are few visible preferences, but it is not uncommon for aristocracy to surround them if they are magicians. How much magician to the aristocracy puts aside is a kind of status.

I take it that one of the cases of this engagement may also have been intended by the Duke's family to welcome a magician.

"I told you before the Duke, but if it's true, I wanted you to give me the title and become Baron Dowm. In that case, I would have her marry my granddaughter Yennie, but she was on board, so I was asking when I should talk to her..."

"I never thought you'd be Olivier's fiancée."

"Um... I'm surprised about that, too. Were you seriously thinking of making me the head of the Dowm family?

For Jared, it was as surprising as his engagement to Olivier.

Because my father is independent, there is a blood connection, but Jared is not from the Baron Doom family. What's more, Jared named his mother's surname Murphy, and even though her mother was a court magician, she comes from civilians.

Though the Baron, he never even considered fine dust, such as becoming the head of an historic clan.

"Though he was originally my oldest son, I wasn't going to let your father inherit the governor, so I was prepared to rub him, but he got himself a title. Let's try to succeed the governor. One son is weak and not interested in the title. Isn't it normal to think of it as an excellent grandson?

"That's right..."

I'm not wrong about what my grandfather said. But I didn't want to get the governor and be noble until I married Yenny, who was also adorable to my sister.

My grandmother asks, as she saw through Jared like that.

"Were you unhappy in Yenny?

"Yes, no, that's not true, but I've treated you like a sister, so I'm confused"

"That kid always liked you, so I thought it would be a good opportunity. If you want, I'll put her sister on."

"I will refrain from doing that"

Yennie Daum is a good girl, but her relationship with her sister is subtle, so I gave her an instant answer.

I'm sure you knew the answer without having to ask. My grandparents made me laugh all the time.

"Well, if your engagement with Olivier goes well, Yennie won't be sorry."

"Oh, Olivier, if you'll just admit it, I don't care if it's in the side room."

"So is that."

Jared sighed to his grandfather, who just came up with a good thing and laughed luxuriously, and his grandmother, who smiled thinking of her granddaughter, that she had a heartfelt trouble.

"Thinking about Yenny, the problem is you're a court magician."

"Um, you can't just be a court magician. Well, it's true that my mother wants to go up as the same sorcerer to the heights she was at, but court sorcerers aren't easy enough to be just two years old. Your grandfathers know that, don't they?

"Actually..."

"No way, is there anything else yet?

I get sick and tired of the feeling that the story that was hidden is about to surface again.

And that prediction came true.

"It's not official, but it's been decided that you'll be a candidate for court magician."

"Huh!?

Jared was struck today by an unknown number of shocks.
