Chapter 94: A race against time
AYLA
"What do you mean our work has not even begun? Who are you?"
"My name is Morgana."
"I know as much but why do we... we look so alike, Morgana. Why? Why am I here? I have dreamed of you before, twice. What does this all mean?"
"You ask so many questions, Ayla."
"Well, yes because all of this is insane!"
My reflection folded her arms and I thought for a moment how freaky that was staring at one’s self doing an entirely different thing from one.
"You look like me, Ayla because you are me or at least who I use to be."
"That does not make much sense."
"I know" My reflection sighed. "As much as I want to tell you everything and make you understand it, I cannot. You are going to have to discover it yourself but one thing I can tell you is that you are not supposed to be mated to all three princes."
"What does that mean?" I asked.
"Caelan is your mate. Have you met him now in your life?"
I thought back to Alistair and shook my head in the negative.
No way!
I felt nothing for him asides fear that he was going to harm me somehow.
"I can see that you have. He is your mate, Ayla. The moon goddess is making it happen again, repeating the pattern until I choose what she wants even though she gave me Caelan."
I took a step back, feeling the onslaught of a headache.
"What?"
"I was mated to Caelan until the attack began. Our enemies started off at our..."
"Wait" I stopped her. "You are the Omega queen? The one who rejected her mates and damned all of her people to death."
Morgana stared at me, sadness in her eyes...my eyes... whatever.
"I did not mean for that to happen."
"Did you not?" I shot at her. "Do you know what your disobedience cost us Omegas? We were made breeders, the lowest of the lows and forced as servants. That became our legacy and it was all because of you."
"You do not understand, Ayla. I was poisoned."
"What?"
In that moment, I recalled the first time I had dreamed about her, the pain I had felt as death beat down my doors. That was the day she had died.
"I was killed and everything I worked for taken from me by my enemies."
"Who did it?" I asked her.
"Is it not obvious? Lyriana sends her sons to me and that same day they arrive in my pack, I am killed."
"You think the three princes did it?"
"I want to believe that but the truth is I do not know. I am confined to just knowing little things and that does not include who killed me and how they were able to do it which is why I need your help."
I was about to speak when a knock sounded. I turned to the door and back to the mirror.
Morgana was gone.
"Come in" I called out.
Willow walked into the room.
"My lady" she bowed. "You are needed in the healing chambers."
I stared at her.
"What is your name?" I asked again.
"Drusilla, my lady. You know that."
"Of course, I do" I smiled. "I was just checking."
Willow... Drusilla nodded at this.
"So, why am I need in the healing chamber?"
"To heal, my lady."
I froze.
"I am needed to heal? Did something happen to the healer?" I asked.
"No, you... you use your powers to heal the overly sick. Master Magnus wondered if you could come around and help this time around. He knows you are spent from last time but this is quite urgent."
"Of course..." I swallowed.
I knew nothing about using my powers.
Willow stared at me with concern in her eyes.
"I could go and let him know you cannot help, my lady. It is no problem at all." she said.
"But you said it was urgent."
"It is. The child is most likely to die if he is not catered to immediately but you do not need to..."
"No, I need to." I cut in. "Give me a moment to collect myself."
"Of course, my lady." Willow bowed low again and stepped out of the room.
As soon as she was gone, I turned to the mirror.
"Morgana" I whispered.
Nothing.
For Goddess sake...
"Morgana!" my voice rose an octave.
I watched my reflection transform.
"I need your help. I am to heal a child." I said.
"Okay, heal the child"
"I do not know how to." I whispered furiously.
"You do not have access to your powers?"
"What powers?"
"Oh goddess" she stared at me like I had just committed blasphemy.
"What about our wolf... Nyx... does she speak to you?"
"I am wolfless."
"No, you are not." Morgana spat. "You just... you haven’t activated your powers yet so she cannot reveal herself to you."
I blinked.
"How do I do that? Preferably now because there is a dying child waiting for me to come and perform a healing I cannot."
Morgana put a hand to her chin, deep in thought.
"When I got my powers, I was a mere child of ten and two. It happened just suddenly but I knew I was to have powers because my mother before me did and hers before her."
"That does not help me, Morgana."
"That is the thing, Ayla. You haven’t been listening to me. I cannot do much for you or else I will upset the balance of things but I can give you an advice. You are going to need to feel it to activate it."
I gaped at her.
"That is not..." I sighed. "Feel it. Sure" I muttered, turning away from her.
"You can do this. You are me, Ayla"
"So you have said but you have been no help to me, Morgana."
"I am sorry, Ayla but it is you who can help me." she said.
"How?" I spun around.
She was gone... again.
