Aurelia Shaw yawned, her peach blossom eyes filled with a misty haze, biting the spoon scooping egg custard, resting her head with one hand, her beautiful eyes drooping. Hearing Junia Simpson ask her, she gave Junia a casual smile, "I haven’t had a meal with your brother Mason Nightshade for several days, your brother’s been busy leaving early and coming back late, and only in the morning I can catch him for a while."

Junia Simpson said nothing.

What else could she say? The sister-in-law was evidently annoyed, and if the person sitting here today was the President, she would have directly lashed out at him.

Junia Simpson could only close her mouth in frustration.

Seeing Aurelia yawn several times, her eyes reddened, her eyelids heavy and unable to lift, yet stubbornly holding them open, Mason Nightshade worriedly rubbed her cheek, "Why force yourself to get up when you’re sleepy? Making yourself suffer for no reason? Go back upstairs and sleep a bit more, I’ll come home early tonight."

Although he couldn’t come home early tonight.

He wanted to come home early.

But coming home early would make it impossible to hide his injuries from her.

These wounds, he didn’t want her to see.

Aurelia Shaw was unaware of Mason Nightshade’s thoughts, but she knew better than to always believe a man’s words, and since she’d decided to find out about Mason’s physical condition, she wouldn’t give up halfway, that’s not her nature.

Yawning again, Aurelia stretched lazily.

"No! I’m up already, going back to lie down won’t make me fall asleep."

She said, getting up and heading to the kitchen, "I remember cooking some porridge, right?"

She staggered, unsteady footsteps, swaying as she walked, eyelids drooping, unsure if she was watching her path, the next second seeming about to collide with a wall.

Mason followed her anxiously.

Junia Simpson opened her mouth, but said nothing.

When Mason Nightshade entered the kitchen, Aurelia Shaw had already served the porridge. Her peach blossom eyes half-squinting approached the rim of the bowl, her fingers touching the burning hot temperature, instinctively letting go.

Mason Nightshade’s pupils suddenly contracted.

The bowl fell to the ground, and the splattered porridge would surely scald her legs, the glass shards would cut her calf.

Mason Nightshade moved, a sharp pain coming from his chest; he only furrowed his brow slightly, his speed of action undiminished, he caught the bowl in his own hand.

"Be careful," Mason Nightshade chided softly as he carefully checked her for other wounds.

Aurelia Shaw immediately took the bowl from his hand, placed it aside, her delicate brows furrowing abruptly, grabbing his large hand, "Did you get hurt anywhere?"

Though she intended to probe him, the sight of the hot bowl made her feel deeply distressed.

Mason Nightshade’s hands had a thick layer of calluses, and the bowl’s temperature wouldn’t burn him. He reversed grip to hold Aurelia’s hand in his palm, one hand holding the porridge bowl, another hand pulling her outside.

Junia Simpson didn’t know what happened until she saw her brother Mason leading his sister-in-law out of the kitchen with a somber face.

"Just sit here, finish your meal and go back upstairs, nowhere else!" Mason Nightshade said in a deep voice, seeming truly angry.

Feeling guilty, Aurelia quietly drank her porridge, her mind incessantly replaying the scene from the kitchen, his reaction speed didn’t seem like someone injured.

But the faint smell of blood she sensed every time they got close bothered Aurelia immensely.

...

Mason Nightshade and Junia Simpson left, leaving Aurelia Shaw alone in the living room.

She rested her chin in silence, the atmosphere so subdued that even the servants felt a bit scared.

Suddenly, Aurelia Shaw stood up abruptly, returned upstairs to the bedroom, picked out an outfit, and left the house.
