Episode 27: The Importance of Connection

Afternoon flattery. Between classes. By way of example, Yuven was playing a bit against Lynn studying herself in the library.

"Lynn, I've overlooked important facts. It doesn't make sense to get good grades in school."

"Hmm."

Lynn turns the textbook page with a proper hammer.

"What attitude?"

"Nothing."

After hearing about Yuven's background from Theo, there was a subtle change in his mood for her in Lynn.

The new emotion Lynn had for her, it was pity.

Until now, Lynn had similar feelings for her.

She is out of reach no matter how much she wants, a inhabitant of a different world who has no part in herself.

Lynn was therefore upset that she was involved beyond that boundary.

But knowing her circumstances, knowing that the aristocracy was also in a lot of trouble, a sort of sympathy and familiarity arose. Something like a spare time to see Yuven calmly in the phosphorus was emerging.

"Fair enough. Lynn, what you need to succeed in your life. What do you think you are?

"Come on, you don't understand."

"It's a connection, a relationship."

(Whew)

Lynn was interested in Yuven's story.

In fact, it was about to be the most helpful story Yuven has ever talked about.

"Hmm."

Lynn closes the book and turns back to her.

"Keep going."

Yuven continues the conversation as he feels something caught up in Lynn's eagle attitude.

"Humans can't do anything on their own. It's the first time I can do a big job by helping others. That doesn't change how great a magician is."

"Hmm."

Lynn nods and listens enthusiastically. Yuven continues the conversation with satisfaction that it draws Lynn's attention.

"And human society has a relationship up and down. Nobility and slavery, bosses and subordinates, government and the people"

"Right."

"We can mobilize a large number of people and move society efficiently if we have a sad but upward and downward relationship. In addition, human society has an upward and downward relationship that determines the profession it can take. Generally, it is more advanced and influential occupations in the upper echelons of society. Conversely, even those in the lower echelons of society can use their influence if they get along with the upper echelons.

Therefore, it is important to have connections with upstream people. That's where the college is important. It's a shallow idea to think of school as just a place to study. The important thing is that you can study and interact with kids your age. So it would be a great place to train people to socialize before they go out into real life. The college brings together many children of the same age with the talent of the Mage Master from all over the world. Furthermore, we can speak magic, the common language of the world. It is also possible to deepen rapport with the sons of foreign nobility.

Not only is the college a place to eagerly listen to your teacher and take credit for classes, but it is also a place to connect with promising friends for your future career. Friendship in the college makes a significant difference in future achievements as a magician.

You know what I mean?

"I see. So you're actively talking to upper-class kids and attending a lot of tea parties."

"Well, you know what?"

Yuven proudly puts his chest up.

Lynn was honestly impressed with her theory. I thought it was just a trick, but you've been thinking a lot about becoming a good magician.

"Listen to you. I understand very well that connections are important. Listen on top of that, what do you think you can do for a low-status person like me to make connections with someone in the upper class?

Yuven smiled niggardly and mean when Lynn heard that.

"What you need to make a connection. That's an identity. So you, the slave, have no chance. Too bad ~"

"I expected you to think I was stupid."

Lynn turned to her desk and turned the book page out again.

"Am I? What kind of rhetoric? Hey, turn around."

(Thought you could hear something useful)

Lynn sighed deeply again disappointed.

"I'm telling you, turn around. Hey, Cora."

Yuven protrudes Lynn's chair with his cane. Lynn's chair rattled and swayed with magical force, despite not so much effort.

"Hey, what the hell, dude"

Lynn barely prevented her from falling off the chair by clutching to her desk. The chair makes a sound with the batan and falls.

"Sit here for a moment."

Yuven showed the floor gunned down with a cane. Lynn sits right on the floor as she says.

"Don't you regret being fooled by me? Always hella like that, and look at me like it's none of my business. Say it back for a moment. Mostly you..."

I wonder how much Yuven starts preaching when he yells at me to scold me off with his arms around him.

(What is this? Is it my fault?

Looks like Lynn is scolded for doing bad things to the side.

(Why should I be preached by Yuven...)

"What do you think? Let me know what you think."

Lynn decided she had no choice but to share her thoughts.

"Hey Yuven. Though you seem to be mistaken about something. I'm pretty happy with what I'm doing right now."

Yuven's face attracted me. Lynn found out that she had stepped on some kind of landmine in her again. But I didn't care.

"My hometown was a really poor place."

Lynn remembers her life in her hometown.

Lynn's hometown of Miln was by no means rich, but a probable place.

Of course Lynn had to encourage labor as a slave, and she didn't have to feel lonely not having a family.

But all the neighbors were kind enough to pity Lynn's condition.

All the same fellow slavers and civilian class treated Lynn like a family.

But there was a war and everything went wrong.

Soldiers from neighbouring countries pushed over to Miln territory, destroying bridges and roads, pruning crops and setting the houses on fire.

Fortunately, the soldiers just vandalized the fields and there were no dead people.

But that came out the back.

The number of humans remains the same while the land is devastated and the crops that can be harvested are reduced.

There was a shortage of food needed to feed the people in Miln territory.

Lynn felt a twinge with fewer and fewer foods reaching her every day, but what was harder than that was the ever gentle people getting colder.

In Miln territory, food was constantly stolen and stolen frequently.

Everyone locked the keys to the house tightly, and the suspicious dark spirits spread among each other to make them approximate at once.

Until the war broke out, for example, children were allowed to go into orchards and tickle fruit with one gen trick.

That soon turned into a whip, eventually into jail, and finally even a child to be sentenced to death.

"Well, though I don't sometimes wish I could go higher than here. Still rich and educated now compared to my hometown life. I have hope. I am satisfied. Unlike you, I don't have a reason to go up there."

"Satisfied? Satisfied?

Yuven shook himself in anger.

"You know what I mean? Low stature makes fun of the highly-identified."

"I think you'd make a fool of yourself even if you were high profile."

Lynn first found out when she came to this tower, but the most exciting chatter among the civilian class was the topic of the nobility scandal.

"Ha ha. Then stay afloat like that forever. And now you will know the true horror of this tower."

That's all Yuven says and he just walks away.

Lynn dropped her off as Pocan.

That night, Lynn could hardly sleep with what Yuven said stuck to her head forever.

I didn't pay much attention on the spot I was told, but later on it seemed like something serious. There was something unusual about the way she said it.

Lynn talked to Theo about what Yuven was saying.

"Leave us alone. He's desperate to scare us. He's been here a lot the same as us in the first place. What does he know about this tower?"

Theo told me that, but still, Lynn couldn't wipe away her anxiety.

Here in peace, Lynn forgot, but the inhabitants of this tower are the ones who make their children feel fine about letting them fight the Beast. I didn't think it was going to be as good as this. Is it really okay as it is now?

Lynn was to spend another sleepless night thinking about it that day.
