Chapter 105: Book of Grudges
Knowing Moon, Ed recognized his efforts as a mere delay for a major fallout. Samuel would need to deal with this mess himself.
He also recognized himself as the main culprit behind the fallout.
Samuel never intended to teach anyone, and Moon, as proud as he was, was only interested in muscles, fights, and a few basic things.
He was the one who forced both of them together and got this mess to be.
He rubbed his head while watching the flashing killing intent in Moon’s eyes come and go as he took a grain of rice off his eyebrow.
Ed pursed his lips. ’This mess will need to be resolved by the two of them somehow.’
Still, there was one question he needed to ask.
"Kid, is that weird feeling as bad as it was yesterday?" Ed asked, considering that Moon woke up way faster than anticipated and in better condition than he should have been.
Moon didn’t answer immediately; he chewed his food slowly.
His eyes looked into Ed’s. "Take a guess," he said slowly, his face uglier than before.
"Do you want to get your head bashed?" Ed asked casually.
Moon looked back, still frowning. "No." He squinted.
Ed smiled the ugliest he could muster. "How about speaking properly, then?"
Moon swallowed. "Okay."
Ed rubbed his nose bridge. "For now, since there’s not much time, you need to constantly try to understand the condition of your body," Ed advised.
"You will also get to be taught lessons with the other two kids. Finish your meal and head to the classroom," he instructed.
Moon didn’t look pleased about either of the two orders Ed gave, but he didn’t complain.
Ed didn’t have a seal on his stats; he could really bash him.
Which led to a new question.
’Would it have been fine if that mustache bastard didn’t have a seal on his stats?’ Moon asked himself.
He questioned his grudge with Samuel entirely.
And the more he thought of it, the more he felt like he would have avoided getting beaten by someone whose level of power he couldn’t even understand by any means.
Little did he know, Ed as well was thinking the same.
Before long, Moon finished his food and stood to get going.
"Make sure to get back here once your class is over," Ed said last before Moon went on his way.
He sighed to himself. "The problem lies with the stats; he lost to someone he had a chance of defeating." Ed waved a hand, gathering all the rice scattered on the tables and ground before going back behind the counter.
Moon remembered Uon said the classroom was the building next to Samuel’s office.
His mood went foul again as Samuel’s name passed through his mind.
Regardless, he soon opened the door of the classroom. Inside, only Barrett was sitting.
As soon as he felt it, Barrett raised his head, looking at Moon’s current face. "Oh, boss, been a few days."
Moon nodded; Barrett wasn’t done yet. "Are you okay?"
Moon realized he forgot to give him that look; thus...
He gave it to him.
’You ask, you die!’
Barrett squinted before his eyes fell back to his notebook.
He was writing something.
It took Moon a moment to notice the unusual act and items.
Unusual to him only.
"What are you doing?" he asked Barrett, who looked curious all of a sudden.
Barrett, who apparently didn’t understand the essence of the question, answered as naturally as he could. "Well, Assistant Uon gave us some assignments to do."
Moon didn’t know what he was talking about and wasn’t in the mood to inquire or tire himself out. Thus, he decided to watch for now and find out slowly.
He kept watching closely the hand holding the pen and moving over the paper pages of the notebook.
Moon was never taught how to read or write; it was all thanks to the system. The system shares knowledge with all ascenders, allowing them to speak, communicate, and even read.
On the first floor, Moon’s only memory of writing was a very distant and unpleasant one; thus, he focused now on what his eyes could see.
Notebook.
Pen.
Flop~
Barrett closed the notebook once he was done; on the outermost side, something was written.
Facility Class.
Moon saw it and had an idea.
"Where do I get one of these?" he finally asked.
Barrett pointed a finger at the front; under the board, there was a pack of books and a box of pens.
"There, boss, you can take one or two depending on what you need," Barrett explained.
Moon stood and went to where Barrett pointed.
He took one notebook and one pen, but before going back, he asked, "How many do I need for the classes?" he asked, making sure to take one trip to the pack of notebooks.
"Only one is enough for now; it’ll be a long time, I think, before we need a second one." Barrett gave his guess on the topic.
Moon decided to take two notebooks and one pen.
He returned and sat further away from Barrett, at the very back of the classroom, as all class troublemakers found themselves by natural selection.
In his seat, Moon tried to copy how Barrett held the pen. It was an alien feeling, but it somehow felt like holding a spoon.
Still, it was far more complicated than using a spoon.
His first words to ever be written slowly took shape on the softcover of the notebook.
Something he felt like he was in urgent need to record right now before things started getting out of hand, before there were too many to count.
Before he found himself forgetting the debts he had yet to pay.
[Book of Grudges]
Moon opened the notebook and started writing.
-go back to first floor and kill them bastards
-kill bastard eyeball
-use flowing light on the yellow bastard
-get yellow bastard to get beaten or almost beaten to death
-rip mustashe bastard’s leg or two off
-beat up damn fluffy mass of murder
Moon paused; these were all the ongoing grudges he had yet to resolve. He felt conflicted about other grudges that were either now meaningless or resolved.
He rubbed his chin a few times before proceeding to write them down.
-female banshee
He paused there for a moment; was his grudge with Rowa’s interrogation over?
Not sure if he should leave it open or mark it completed, but in the end, he left a question mark there.
-female banshee ? got arm snapped ?
-coltens proxy ✓ dead
-purple bastard ✓ halfway snapped his neck
-fellow ascender bastard ✓✓
-colten ✓ is currently my temporary bitch
There was one more he was conflicted about. He didn’t write any of the first floor grudges because there were too many.
Some were against people who were dead, and others were against everyone there.
That’s why he didn’t know what to write of it; he only wanted to go back and find every bastard he hated, every single one of them.
Still,
One grudge was the most painful to him, and it wasn’t what it seemed to be.
It wasn’t the grudge of turning into a slave, or the grudge of being forced into battlefields without an end.
It was a different one, one he decided to write while holding back many things.
-9th bro is gay ✓
