Transition to Another World, Landmines Included

159 Preparation for exploration (2)

The next day, we started collecting tools to challenge the abandoned pit.

Natsuki makes large quantities of easy-to-eat meals and stocks them in velcro bags, while Yuki and Hulka make gas detectors and azimuths in alchemy.

Gas detectors are likely to be available in Japan only to detect and alarm gases harmful to the human body. Unlike azimuthal magnetic needles, azimuthal gauges are not used to inform azimuthal directions.

As a result, even in environments where there are many magnetic bodies around, such as mines, the exact orientation can be known without problems.

I'm in charge of buying and collecting ropes, blankets, charcoal, long sticks, big cloths, and any groceries that might help anyway.

I don't know if I'm going to use it. If I throw stuff in my magic bag, it won't get in the way, and our current finances aren't so bad that I sway to the point where I bought that much regular groceries.

Speaking of leftover Toya, he was in charge of creating a foldable, simple sleeping area with deck chairs.

No matter how many sheets and blankets you lay, you can never say it's good in terms of fatigue recovery to sleep directly on the ground in a cold, damp cave.

For this reason, I've been looking to buy a suitable folding bed, but this is not for sale.

Even though it seems convenient.

When I asked Mr. Ganz, he said, "I can't carry it, so I can't sell it".

Magic bags are rare, and it seems that if you're an adventurer with a carriage, you can sleep in a carriage.

As far as I'm concerned, I think it's easier than sleeping in a carriage, and if I can make a good folding mechanism, I can carry it in the gap of the carriage, so I feel like I can sell enough... I can't help it without it.

Toya, who can share her image with me, is about to embark on production.

Honestly, I want Toya to do her best because I feel like the number of nights available will change dramatically depending on whether this can be made well or not.

While I was doing that, I was contacted that the tanning of Darls Bear's skin, which I had previously asked for, was over.

It was urgent to improve the protective equipment, so we temporarily interrupted all kinds of work and went to order protective equipment using it.

What I order is Mr. Ganz's shop, as shown in the example.

I also find it odd to ask a blacksmith for leather armor, but Mr. Gantz's shop is a weapons and protective equipment store.

Mr. Ganz himself can process leather to some extent, and he works with specialist craftsmen to create difficult parts.

That said, Darls Bear's leather seems quite difficult -.

"This guy brought in another hell of a lot of stuff! It's the first time I've seen the real thing in Darls Bear's leather."

"Can't you?

"I'm not saying I can't. I don't know... it's not just my job, so it's gonna take some time, okay?

It was Mr. Ganz who put his arms together and bent his mouth to the letter to say, but to that extent it was woven.

Rather, Mr. Gantz's usual work is so fast.

"Uh, how long does it take to get it all together?

"Uh, boots for all of you, gloves, then partial armor? Right, I don't know for sure... don't take more than a month"

"What?"

"Sorry, there are only a few craftsmen who can handle this level of material."

"No, it's rather fast and surprising. Hey?"

"Oh. I thought it would take more."

Basically all leather products are hand-stitched.

Given the durability of Darls Bear's leather, how hard is it to sew it?

If it were to be done by a specialist craftsman, it would naturally take time.

"Right. Then I'll take my measurements. If you have a fine order, tell me when."

That's what you should call bespoke.

Boot and glove measurements are pretty detailed and seem to be made to perfectly fit our size.

The boots I'm wearing now are also easily measured and made, so when it comes to custom-made, they are made to order, but given that it took quite a bit longer than then, I guess they measure quite fine.

I am a little excited about how user-friendly the next item will be because it is not even an easy custom-made item when it comes to gloves right now, but something I have chosen from ready-made products and bought.

"- Okay, that's it. I'll be in touch when it's done. Wait for the temper."

Measurements alone for a few hours or so.

More time was also taken to convey hope individually, so even though we visited after noon, the sun was already falling.

That's all you did politely for me, and I'm not going to complain at all, but I'm sure I'm a little tired.

We thanked Mr. Gantz and went straight home that day.

◇ ◇ ◇

Three days after visiting Mr. Ganz's shop for measurements.

Finally ready to dive into the abandoned pit, we were leaving the town of Raffan.

By the way, the one that took the most time was making a simple sleeping area for Toya.

Because of the repeated trials and errors to improve the folding mechanism and user-friendliness, and the need to provide for the number of people, there is no alternative to this.

However, the road to the abandoned pit was relatively smooth.

Last time, only 5 skeletons encountered the effect of defeating a large number of undead or by the time we reached the abandoned pit.

We encountered some other demons, but were able to arrive with little time.

There is no appearance of undead even before the scrap pit, and possibly, it does not already exist internally and even seems likely to be out of stock.

"Well, we're going into an abandoned pit... just like last time, is Natsuki leading the way? I don't think I need to worry about traps anymore than I know it's a scrap pit."

Last time there was still the possibility of bandit Ajito, so I asked Natsuki to take the lead, but without it, it would be more sensible for the stiffest Toya to be in the lead.

But my suggestion was denied by Natsuki himself.

"No, I have [dark vision], and if I have [trap knowledge], I might know where it's going to collapse, etc."

"Right. Natsuki leads the way, and Toya's right around the corner, so why don't you just diagonally rear it?

"Right. Then I can come forward when it's dangerous. [M] Especially since it seems unlikely to be hit unintentionally - Nao, is [the enemy] in the cave okay?

"To be honest, I don't know. I didn't sense it the last time I came in, but did you have any enemies or have a narrower detection range..."

"Mmm... then you need to pay special attention for a while"

"Please, I don't think I can detect it as far as I can..."

I don't know what I can say for sure because it's the ability to detect with principles that I don't really understand, whether it's the sixth sense or the seventh sense.

Given the narrower [enemy] range when Toya's sense of smell is restricted, I think it is the overall ability of various senses.

"So am I or Halka in charge of the mapping? Which one of you will?

"Yuki, can I ask you a favor? Because I'm a bow..."

"Am I better off with my hands free? Copy that."

Hulka is basically acting with a bow on his left hand, but Yuki's main wepon these days is a knife, and this one is on his hips, so he's free to use his hands compared to Hulka.

Yuki took something like a drawing board with a fixed azimuth from the velcro bag and set a handmade square eye paper there.

Now they fix the orientation and the number of steps per mass eye and do the mapping.

"I'll try for once, but don't expect too much, okay?

"Polar theory, as long as we figure out the way, okay"

"Yes, yes. I don't think it would be very easy if there was a high or low difference."

Like the old 3D dungeon type RPGs, it would be pretty hard to write a map where one floor is all the same height, the floor movement up and down is stairs, the corners are right angles, whatever is easy to understand stuff like, there would be a gentle bend or up and down movement by slopes.

If it's also something like a GPS logger, it would be useful......

"By the way, there's nothing like auto-mapping with alchemy magic props, right?

"You don't have anything convenient like that. I can't even make it - could it be possible to install a separate reference point?

Hulka interrupts and contemplates what he almost says is impossible.

If such a thing is truly possible, the search for abandoned pits is, of course, convenient when walking in the woods normally.

"Uh-huh, if you pre-install two base stations and make a magic prop that can measure the distance from them..."

"The problem is how to plot on paper from that measured distance, right? Tough to do by hand while moving..."

"If you want to record up and down movements, you have to have three base stations..."

"Both of you, think about that when you get home. This way now, isn't it?

Natsuki broke into Hulka and Yuki, who turned their heads and began their discussion, pointing to the abandoned pit.

"Oh, yeah. Uh... well, this, the gas detector. Can you put this around your shoulder, Toya?

Hulka, noted by Natsuki and raised her face, takes two small magic items from inside the magic bag about the security bell that elementary school students have and hands one of them to Toya.

"What about you?

"I can put this on my ankle. Toxic gases can accumulate below or above. Toya, because you're the tallest."

The best thing is to wrap it around your head headlightly, but they also weighed themselves in considering the appearance problems and getting in the way.

"... hey, when the toxic gas comes around your shoulder, even then, am I already inhaling?

Toya's nose and mouth are above her shoulders.

As a natural consequence, as Toya says, if it's a light gas that accumulates upwards, it will be after you've already inhaled it when you detect it.

"It's okay. It's very sensitive - it should detect it before it reaches a concentration that affects the human body."

"Gases aren't exactly divided by weight. Otherwise, the air won't get mixed gases, will it?

"If you say so, yeah"

To Yuki's explanation, he nods as Toya was convinced.

Solids, of course, are more fluid than liquids, so even if they were completely sealed and left unaffected by wind, etc., there would be no such thing as air being completely separated into layers of nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide.

It's the same with regard to toxic gases, in an environment called a cave, and in a situation where we're moving around, it's hard to imagine it being divided into beautiful layers.

"If there was a gas that could not be inhaled even slightly..."

"... what if?

"Give it up then"

"Oui!!

Toya twitches forcefully at Hulka, who shrugs his shoulders and says softly.

"'Cause there's nothing you can do, right? It's okay, because if you breathe, I'll drag you away properly - if I can afford it."

"If you can't afford it, you'll be abandoned! - No, well, if you really can't afford it, you can't help it..."

Even with a pitiful look on his face, Yuki pounds on Toya's shoulder, which in a sense speaks of calm judgment.

"Shh. Think rationally, because it's a Hulka and Natsuki priority."

"Well, if the two of you are safe, if you think you can cure them with some poison, it's gonna be me or Toya."

"No, you don't have to worry about it that much, because normal toxic gases can detect it, right? You know Yuki too, because we made it together."

"Ha ha, it's a joke, a joke. If that detector doesn't work, maybe we'll all die together, so we won't be lonely, right?

Yuki winks and thumbs up.

Maybe it's true, but how about that?

"It's a bad prediction, Oi.... I don't want to be undead, even if I give up dying"

"I agree. In case, I just want you to collect the body later or bake it clean."

Part of the zombie, it was rounded, wasn't it? There was no code of ethics, and the clothes were not only conveniently broken, or the mosaic was hung.

I'm not saying where, and none of us touched on that... if it was just Toya and the two of us, we would have definitely talked about it.

If it gets to skeleton straight away, I still feel better because I don't know it's me, but if it's going to be skeleton via zombie, I'd rather not like it.

"Ladies and gentlemen, let's not say anything too ominous. Rumors will shadow you."

"Right. Well, it was originally a mine, so, yeah, it's not gonna be a problem."

No, I also feel that the word is already flagged... and when I say it, it's really going to be like that, so I whisper.

"Ready? Well, let's go in."

To Hulka's words, we started breaking into the abandoned pit with Natsuki at the forefront.
