Chapter 489: What a Huge Surprise
"Hold the phone upright." Evan Fairchild’s voice rose a few notches.
"No," Melody Monroe refused with a laugh.
Evan Fairchild stared at the ceiling. Hearing the sound of running water, he felt a familiar heat stir within him.
After her shower, Melody Monroe picked up her phone and walked toward the bedroom.
It was late autumn and getting cold, so she immediately dove under the covers.
"I’m going to sleep. Can you wait until I’m asleep before you hang up the video call?"
"Are you scared of being alone?"
"I’m not scared. I’m just not used to it all of a sudden. It would be so nice if you were here," Melody Monroe said casually.
"Good girl. Go to sleep," Evan Fairchild coaxed softly.
Melody Monroe yawned, her eyelids heavy. She was truly exhausted today, so it didn’t take long for her to drift off.
Evan Fairchild watched her sleep for a moment, then grabbed his phone, stood up, and headed out.
Back at the villa in Rockwellburg, the lights were all out. Everyone had already gone to bed.
Evan Fairchild went downstairs alone, started his car, and drove away.
...
Melody Monroe slept soundly and dreamlessly. Thanks to her very regular schedule, her internal clock was incredibly precise; she woke up before her alarm even went off.
When she picked up her phone, she discovered the video call was still connected!
The phone was pointed at a bathroom!
Evan Fairchild was taking a shower!
Thankfully, the steam had fogged up the glass enclosure, so she could only make out his silhouette.
Even so, the scene made her blush. She just sat there on her bed, staring at the screen.
After his shower, Evan Fairchild walked out with a towel wrapped around his waist. Seeing her on the video call, a smile touched his lips.
"Why are you up and showering so early?"
"Weren’t you enjoying the show?"
"You’re the one who didn’t end the call. Am I not allowed to look?" Melody Monroe retorted with a laugh. "You really left it on all night?"
"I didn’t," Evan Fairchild said, shaking his head. "I was afraid you’d wake up in the middle of the night and not see me."
He said this as he walked upstairs.
Melody could only see a little of the background behind him, but it looked somewhat familiar.
Evan Fairchild arrived at a door and opened it.
Melody was still holding her phone when her own door suddenly swung open, making her jump. When she saw the figure standing in the doorway, she froze for a full ten seconds.
’To open my eyes and see Evan Fairchild—not on a screen, but in the flesh! What an incredible surprise!’
"Ah!" she cried out happily, tossing her phone aside and running toward him.
Evan Fairchild tossed his phone away as well, opening his arms to catch her.
Melody leaped straight into his embrace, as happy as a child.
"How did you get here? It was so late! How did you make it?"
"I grew wings and flew," Evan Fairchild answered with a smile.
Melody was so moved she was speechless. She cupped his face in her hands and kissed him.
That one kiss quickly became unstoppable...
...
Melody Monroe was late. By the time she arrived at the production office, it was already past eleven in the morning.
Although the opening ceremony hadn’t been held and filming hadn’t officially begun, there was still much to arrange. All the departments needed to coordinate and get all the prep work done ahead of time.
Right now, the biggest cause for anxiety was the props department.
They had hired a master of historical architecture to restore the Solara Palace, but construction had started and was still not finished. This had directly delayed their scheduled start date for filming.
Director Walsh had already thrown a huge fit over the matter.
When Melody arrived at the office, the entire place was shrouded in a gloomy, oppressive atmosphere.
"If it’s not going to work, just pick a palace in the film studio complex. We can’t delay the official start of filming," Director Walsh’s voice drifted out from his office.
