Evan Fairchild answered the phone?!
She realized this night had been utterly horrifying—her heart could barely take it anymore.
She glanced at the time—it was already eleven o’clock. ’Ian should be asleep by now, right?’
’What in the world did Evan Fairchild and Ian talk about?!’
Ultimately, she decided to call Ian. She simply couldn’t wait until tomorrow to find out what had been said.
The call connected after just a few seconds.
Ian Monroe had been fighting off sleep, waiting for his mother’s call.
"Mom! Did you get your phone back?"
Hearing Ian’s voice, Melody Monroe’s heart instantly softened. "Sweetheart, you’re not asleep yet?"
"I was worried about you because you lost your phone."
"When you called my phone, did a man answer?"
"Yeah, he said to wait for you to get your phone. So Ian waited too."
"Did he say anything else?"
"No."
Melody Monroe sighed. "Don’t worry about me anymore. Be a good boy and get some sleep. You have school tomorrow."
"Good night, Mom."
"Good night, sweetheart."
Melody Monroe hung up, still slumped on the floor. She had no strength to get up, nor any desire to.
’Evan Fairchild knows Ian exists now.’
She didn’t know if Evan Fairchild suspected anything.
’He was still trying to confirm if she was the woman from that night. But with this phone call, could he have made other connections?’
She didn’t dare to rely on wishful thinking.
And she certainly didn’t dare underestimate Evan Fairchild’s intelligence.
In that moment, she felt like an ant that could be crushed at any moment.
’As long as I don’t get entangled with Evan Fairchild, he won’t be completely ruthless with me, right?’
’But what about Ian?’
’How would he treat Ian?’
Melody Monroe’s mind raced with so many thoughts that her head began to ache. She was so overwrought that she didn’t even shower, ending up asleep on the couch for the entire night.
...
Starfall Entertainment was officially established near the Jansburg Film Base.
News that Evan Fairchild was the big boss behind the scenes had already been plastered all over the media.
The contract of the currently most popular male star, Zane Langdon, was about to expire. Whether he would start his own studio or renew with his current company was the hottest topic of gossip.
Rumors were already circulating that Zane Langdon was going to sign with Starfall.
If this turned out to be true, it would undoubtedly be a huge blow to Stellaris!
Evan Fairchild’s personal wealth and power alone were a match for Stellaris, to say nothing of the formidable Fairchild Clan backing him.
...
Jasper Rockwell, dressed in jeans and a black leather jacket, was lying on the sofa in the CEO’s office at Starfall. A packet of instant cold medicine mix sat beside him.
He had a cooling patch on his forehead; he’d caught a cold after standing in the chilly wind for a bit.
Tommy pushed the door open and walked in. Seeing Jasper’s pathetic state, he shook his head.
"Is Evan here yet? I want him to see me in this miserable state! I want him to know how much I’ve sacrificed for him!"
Evan Fairchild heard Jasper Rockwell’s voice the moment he walked in.
Jasper instantly felt the atmosphere shift. He looked up and met Evan Fairchild’s gaze.
Crap! He pushed himself into a sitting position, not daring to make a sound.
’What’s wrong with Evan Fairchild? Why does he look so furious?’
’Did he have a bad night last night?’
Evan Fairchild sat down, and Tommy immediately placed a contract on the desk.
"President Fairchild, this is Zane Langdon’s contract. All the terms have been settled."
Without a single glance at it, Evan Fairchild pulled open a drawer and slammed a file onto the desk—the information Tommy had investigated a few days ago.
"This is the information you dug up."
