Chapter 209: What Did You Think It Was?

She tapped her head. ’What happened last night? How can I not remember any of it?’

’I woke up feeling so awful today. It couldn’t be...’

’No way, right?’

’But even if I got blackout drunk, would my whole body feel this sore?’

She slowly pulled back the covers and looked down at herself.

She was wearing pajamas!

’I don’t remember changing clothes after falling asleep...’

Watching her subtle movements, Evan Fairchild’s brow furrowed.

’She doesn’t think something happened between us last night, does she?’

Melody Monroe still couldn’t be sure. ’It’s all my fault for getting so completely wasted! I really can’t remember a single thing!’

Even though she had her suspicions,

she didn’t dare to ask.

"Mommy!" The moment Ian Monroe came in and saw his mother was awake, he ran over excitedly. "Mommy, are you feeling a little better? Did you take your medicine?"

"Medicine?" Melody Monroe was completely baffled.

"You had an allergic reaction to the alcohol last night, and you were so drunk you passed out," Evan Fairchild’s voice sounded again.

Melody Monroe’s face instantly flushed red.

’And I actually thought... that we...’

"Oh, so that’s what happened."

"What did you think happened?" Evan Fairchild watched her, his eyes locked on her every move.

Melody Monroe clutched the covers nervously. "I-I didn’t think anything! I just... I knew I was drunk, and this hangover feels absolutely awful."

Evan Fairchild didn’t call her out on it. ’But her reaction just now was really adorable,’ he thought.

"Do you have the energy to get out of bed? You need to eat something and take your medicine."

"Of course I do!" Melody Monroe’s face flushed red again. "Have you and Ian eaten already?"

"We’ve already eaten."

"What time is it?"

"It’s still early, just past eight. Didn’t you say you were taking the day off?"

"Yes, I’m taking today off," Melody Monroe said with a nod.

Evan Fairchild and Ian Monroe had come all the way from Rockwellburg to Jansburg to see her, so she had specifically cleared her schedule to spend the day with them.

’I can’t believe I’m this sensitive to alcohol. I’ll have to be extra careful in the future.’

After freshening up, Melody Monroe took Ian Monroe’s little hand and walked to the sunroom.

An exquisite breakfast was laid out on the dining table.

Evan Fairchild was sitting at the table, ladling soup into a bowl.

"Have some soup first." Evan Fairchild placed the bowl in front of Melody Monroe.

"Thank you."

"We’re not going anywhere today. We’ll just spend the day here and head back to the hotel tonight."

"I’m so sorry. I wanted to spend the day with you, but instead I just made you worry."

"No, it’s my fault. I know you’re prone to allergies, yet I still let you drink."

"I knew, but I drank it anyway. I just had no idea I’d be this sensitive to alcohol."

Ian Monroe listened to his mom and dad’s conversation, keeping his head down without a word.

’So Mom isn’t blaming Dad after all. My attitude yesterday really was terrible.’

’Still, I’m not going to apologize to Mr. Fairchild.’

"Mommy, you should eat breakfast first. You have to eat before you can take your medicine. The nice doctor said you have to take it all to get better quickly."

Melody Monroe pinched Ian Monroe’s little cheek and nodded with a smile. "Okay, Mommy will definitely listen to Ian and take all her medicine like a good girl."

"Mhm," Ian Monroe nodded.

...

Raymond Ford stared at his phone, at the endless stream of collection notices, and felt like he was going to lose his mind.

’How could he possibly afford to pay any of this?’

The credit card debt alone was no small sum.

And that was to say nothing of the car loan and all the other miscellaneous expenses!
